Evolution mostly.
Men are the hunters, fighters and protectors, women have the very important task of caring for young mainly.
Though this isn't always the case Males are typically stronger in mammalian species, hell, if you're a dude you actually have thicker skin than a female does, etc.
It's science that's why.

older siblings tend to do that. I would get pissed when my parents spanked or did anything to upset my baby brother. but I would trip him all the time, or hit him, and say oops. it's a sibling thing

I agree. I love my older sister and I always defended her or took **** on me so that she wouldn't get in trouble. But right there in that gif, in that kid's state of mind, he actually selflessly saved the girl by self-sacrifice, most likely even if it was bullets, not water.

That is such a violent game to play
I saw this post a long time ago and decided to try get this going to replace a few old games we weren't doing as much. At first it was slow and you couldn't do it unless most or all of the people you were with knew about it. It then picked up a quick pace with two or three attempts a day. Eventually it became an all out war of people with their hands on the ears 24/7 even when you weren't with friends. After a while we stopped, and no one dared raise their hands about their chest.
It wasn't long until the sandwich game replaced it where if a sandwich was exposed, not in anyones hand, and not being made you tried to crush it or hit it. You could protect it by putting anyone on it from a napkin to a sugar packet. This game also sucked but i'll always remember the terror of "get down Mr. President"
