That type of helmet was common all over europe by that time. If it was good armor everyone used it, you can find french armor in english tombs and englisha rmor in french. So no, it's not ironic. It would have been ironic if was having tea and biccies, in a top hat twirling a monocle, and dreaming of oppressing americans once again.
