It's a public school, not your Granddaddy's barbeque. I agree with you, any other time it's rude to make demands of your host without having told them if you have a dietary restriction. But a public school has to respect that different students may have different eating habits due to religion, health, or other reasons. Just like my High School always had a fish option on Fridays during Lent.

No they shouldn't. If you have immunodeficiency for example, yeah you should be able to ask for your meat to be well done. But not for religious reasons. You chose your religion, you deal with it and bring your own lunch.

This is why schools allow students to bring their own goddamn lunches if they have that much of a problem with it.

Some people literally can't eat many meats at all, a friend of mine could actually commit suicide by eating bacon But what a wonderful way to die...

In my school the vegetarian meals would give you E Coli or worse.

Sitting at home with a norovirus today makes me remember the aboslute pain of fourth period after daring to eat a salad.

Seriously guys. Was I the only one who ever brought my own damn lunch to school?

If an 8 year old can remember that he can't have Sloppy Joes because his mommies said eating meat is equal to murder!, then he can remember to bring his tofurkey and soycheese gluten free whole wheat sandwich from home.

And get the **** beaten out of him.
Ah, grade school.

I brought my own lunch like a lot of kids because our parents recognized our school system was too poor to actually give us real, good food. Most of it was grease and byproducts, and when Michelle Obama went to force schools to provide real food the portions were so small a lot of the athletes and even just regular kids ended up starving at the end of the day, especially since the salad and other "fresh" produce they had to provide was a pretty big source of food poisoning for us.

I would have asked your mother for a peanutbutter and jelly or hidden that samwhich though.

If all cafeterias are like the ones from my home town, whatever is not eaten is thrown away at the end of the day. It's already dead. Might as well enjoy it.

My school's policy was whatever was not eaten would be eaten tomorrow in some newish form.

Better to just bring your own damn lunch or go hungry.

For schools yeah i assume they will always order enough meat for everyone due to regulations, but say you go to a restaurant and you fully stock the kitchen with tons of meats and different kinds of foods. Well no one orders meats and eventually over a year or w/e the meat gets unusable they are less likely to order as much of that meat if at all. Eventually if no one eats it it gets taken off the menu and less animals are farmed/killed if this happens by the thousands of locations. I eat the meats all the time im just saying it isn't totally without merit it just takes a long time and a lot of like minded people to make a difference.
