Yeah, because it makes it easier to not talk about real problems, like climate change, pollution levels or how it looks like we're in the next mass extinction event already. Or what we'd do if we faced one of the mass extinction events that have happened in the past. I mean, they're definitely going to happen again some time and Nature is comparatively weakened as it is by man.
User avatar #239 to #123 - caradecocou (10/14/2014) [-]
You're right, but i think ebola is way worse than, say, swine flu.
#471 to #239 - anon (10/14/2014) [-]
But it isn't really, it was just inadequately dealt with. This problem had been around for months, hospitals had to turn away sick people every day for months. They can't treat the infected particularly well either, with this lack of infrastructure they clearly weren't capable of dealing with it, even if they all tried their best. Not to mention sick people hiding from the doctors because of all the conspiracy ******** over there.
World leaders should of stepped in initially, but this sort of disease can't take hold in anywhere that's relatively developed.

why cant those ******* ******* be like madagascar and shut it all down?
they need to contain the virus
they have to stop allowing people to go on vacation there and around the world
they will get infected and will spread that **** everywhere

i heard alot of **** coming from those infected countries
like ******* running away from hospitals and go to public places, one pissed on a room full of healthy people because there was no cure for him and a bunch of good doctors were stabbed to death by a group of patients because of their conditions

is obama really going to send 3000 soldiers there?
they are all gonna get infected by those savages and will return home and infect twice as many

So many people do not understand biology. There really is not much to worry about. This isn't a hard disease to control in a country like the US or Spain. Ebola has an Ro of 1.5. That's like nothing...add that to the fact that people with ebola are hardly infectious when they first start showing symptoms, as long as you get checked out after showing the initial symptoms, you probably won't spread it. When you are close to dying however, you are highly infectious, which is why health care workers like the one in Texas keep getting infected. Also, that is a big reason why it has spread so much in Africa, since they have such different burial rituals etc/ways of handling their dead.
#198 to #167 - trickytrickster (10/13/2014) [-]
Not to mention idiots like Jessie Jackson are not helping anyone. To think that Duncan's family is actually considering suing the hospital because they are apparently racists who didn't give him a cure because he is a black man. The hospital tried to explain that there were no matching blood types to give him a transfusion, and they gave him ZMapp when they had it.
User avatar #210 to #198 - gedab (10/13/2014) [-]
So just what ARE the symptoms of early stage ebola anyway? Do they stand out or is it like many other viruses/bacteria. I deal in Geology, not Biology, so forgive my blatant ignorance.
User avatar #275 to #210 - christmouth (10/14/2014) [-]
www.independent.co.uk/life-style/health-and-families/health-news/ebola-symptoms-what-are-they-and-what-should-you-do-if-you-have-them-9791839.html

What are the symptoms?

Fever, headache, joint and muscle pain, sore throat and intense muscle weakness within 21 days after being infected, with symptoms usually occurring within 5-7 days.

Diarrhoea, vomiting, a rash, stomach pain and impaired kidney and liver function follow before severe internal bleeding, and the patient may also bleed from the ears, eyes, nose or mouth.
User avatar #370 to #167 - commontroll ONLINE (10/14/2014) [-]
Main problem is that the early symptoms look so much like the flu, and now that we're coming into flu season we've got lots of people who will just brush it off as the flu until it gets to late stage.
#496 to #370 - trickytrickster (10/14/2014) [-]
Which is why people should get their flu shots. Every bit helps.

Actually, the number is now two. Still in texas. Because a stupid bitch couldn't follow policy for fifteen ******* minutes.

Fortunately when she stared showing symptoms she was immediately quarantined so we can be sure it'll end with her as long as people read the instructions for handling infectious disease

but the guy die so i think it's back to one being the nurse
User avatar #383 to #378 - elcreepo (10/14/2014) [-]
Don't discount his relatively retarded family. Also I count dead as also being part of the infected number, but just because I'm a pessimist.

Can you believe that they flipped their **** because he was cremated as soon as he died? They claim he wasn't treated the same as the survivors who just happened to be white because he was African. While true that he didn't get the same experimental treatment, that could be due to insurance/lack there of and if he was "neglected" that's because nobody wanted to get anywhere near a patient with a disease that has killed thousands in Africa.

He wasn't transferred to the hospital where two survived either because of the risk of infection along the way, also fears of making the patient worse.

And the cremation goes without saying. The bodies are still highly infectious. I don't care what the **** the family wants, if the nurse dies too she's going to get cremated.
User avatar #420 to #378 - imakejewburgers (10/14/2014) [-]
Number of people infected, not number of people with it. The other guy was still infected with it.
User avatar #384 to #378 - elcreepo (10/14/2014) [-]
Also the drug which did cure the two doctors was limited in supply and according to the internet, there is none left after the last two because the company was either still working on it, didn't have a patient with the money to pay for it, or figured it was never going to sell

So the family's claims of racism along with their desire to be out of house arrest because they "clearly don't have it" bear in mind how long the incubation is, they're barely halfway done... could probably kill people.

Coupled also with the relative disregard to safety protocol and reading commonly seen in Texas.... we might be severely ******

Ebola is an Infectious virus that is spread by organic tissue and fluids.

Call me a retard or a troll but im a bit perplexed as to what the hubbub is. A infectious virus or parasite requires a large population or to be in a high tracked location. With more people the higher chance of infection no matter how much you clean or vaccinate. the fact is its one virus out of hundred of things that could kill you in a moment or slowly.

TL&DR Ebola is a kid with a gun, The plague was the father, common cold was his mother. Swine flue was the Uncle nobody liked, and Aids is his imaginary friend who whispers to him at night.

The media is the only reason people are even worried about it. There is no threat of Ebola in America. If there were, then it would have gotten us a lot sooner, don't you think? It's just the same as the ******** Swine Flu, Bird Flu, and Mad Cow Disease.
