ardentsoul (02/22/2014) [-] Speaking as a christian (pointedly not a catholic) i can say that no, he was actually one of the better popes. He understood the Bible and was a rhetorical genius. Many people seem to really like Francis, but you will never hear more than a 2 minute blurb of him talking, because while what he says is agreeable to many (particularly liberals) he has no grasp of the subject material and can not articulate a clear message. As i'm not a catholic, i cant really give you a great explanation, but here is a link to an opinion piece written by Ann Barndhardt, a devout catholic who is frankly more qualified to give an answer about the pope than I.
