All I know is that Scottish morons will not shut the **** up about it. People seem very convinced that it's going to make any different whatsoever whether Trident is based in Scotland or England - almost as if explosions of epic proportions and radioactive particles respect national borders.
Why are we morons for being concerned about trident? Of course we don't want the entirety of the UK's nuclear weaponry stored in our country. Also an accident at trident doesn't necessarily mean that the entirety of the UK would be at risk, in fact the Ministry of Defence only argues against the relocation of trident to places like devonport (A location that former head of the Royal Navy, Admiral Lord West, agrees they could be placed) because of the higher amount of people that would be at risk.
The entire idea that an accident could actually happen with Trident is essentially a fabrication. How many people did you see even considering it before the referendum? For me, and for many others I know, the answer is "zero" or occasionally "well this one weird dude at college". The actual chances of something going wrong with Trident are also zero. It's not the kind of thing to take chances with, and our government is over-cautious about riding a bike, so I doubt their policy on handling atomic weapons is " **** it, that'll do".
Trident has been used more for scaremongering, both north and south of the border, than it has been used as a nuclear deterrent (which by the way works just as well no matter where in the UK its parked). Trident's main purpose in the UK for the past year has been for vote-swinging and stirring up anger and animosity between Scotland and Westminster over absolutely nothing. It's pathetic just how many people have jumped on the bandwagon without knowing a damn thing about it, aside that is from the huge orange circle the newspapers have been printing across the Scottish maps, telling us we're all doomed and apparently completely forgetting that radiation exists and would probably reach Canada - so England's pretty ****** anyway.
Well I'm not really an expert on the safety measures that preside over the trident base but I'm fairly certain no matter how cautious we are there is always a risk involved, and the immediate recipients of that risk would be those close by. For example (and again I'm no expert) but if you're saying the radiation could reach canada wouldn't that be working under the assumption that we can't contain some sort of fallout? Also according to the MoD the two main risks with trident are nuclear explosions (obviously) which they asses to be a 1 in a million chance (although experts debate this number and even debate whether the threat could be assessed accurately), or plutonium dispersal. Plutonium dispersal can be caused by either a fire or an explosion, the explosion being deemed 100 times more serious as it would then be spread into fine particles.
