War: Iran-Iraq War
Alright, let's go back to Iraq but this time with Iran. I took a few days off because reasons involving a mosin nagant, a gorka, and a woman. Two actually, but that's a story for another day. Alright you war junkies, i'm here to give you your fix. So Iran-Iraq War started on September 22, 1980 when Iraq invaded Iran.

Spoilers, my government, the US of A, we were involved in both sides. Who gave money and weapons, and other stuff? USA. Anyway, this is a long war, 8 years, let's get this moving. Iraq bombs Iranian airfields, military installations and economic targets. Iranian air force retaliated with an attack against Iraqi military bases and infrastructure.
Iraq ready to cease fire if Iran accepts its rights over Shatt Al Arab. Tehran rejects it, see Iran wants to topple Saddam, Iraq wants to annex east of the Shatt al-Arab. On November 10, Iraq captures Khorramshahr, at least 7,000 dead on each side.
Israel got involved, no surprise, their warplanes destroy a nuclear installation near Baghdad. Iran regains Abadan on Sep 29 1981. But this came after a failed Iranian operation to destroy the same installation. Israel just finished the job. Under strong Iranian counterattack, despite flow of shekels and guns to Iraq from the west, Saddam Hussein offers to withdraw from Iran in order to end the conflict. Iran makes peace conditional on payment of reparations; and launches major offensive in the south course it fails.
Iranian troops. Anyway, so Iranians launched their major armoured offensive from Dezful in the direction of Susangerd, but they went and pushed with no infantry support, and exposing their flank. You know how good that was for the iraqis.
And with the exposed flank and no infantry from the armored push, the largest armored battle of the war happened. The iranians had M60 and Chieftain tanks while the iraqis had T-62 tanks. Oh i forgot to mention earlier, the iraqis sent SCUD missiles to population.

Iranians did a sneak attack on an airfield in Iraq called H3, they destroyed a lot of iraqi planes. Okay okay, so now the Iranians brought human wave attacks. Iraqis described it as civilians with no logistics. What's a human wave? Remember in WWI when they sent out their troops on a charge? or when Japanese soldiers did a banzai charge? yeah thats a human wave. Operation eight inam happened and ended an iraqi siege, however iraqi tanks ambushed and iran lost 20 chieftains. Uhm, Operation Tariq al-Qods saw use of iranian human wave attacks, which eventually showed the faulty iraqi logistics. logistics win wars kiddos.
On 22 March 1982, Iran launched an attack, by the way this is the british made chieftain. I told you, the west supplied both iran and iraq, anways iran attacked iraqi forces and took them by surprise. The battle ended decisively in Iran's favour, and Iraqi forces were driven away from Shush, Dezful and Ahvaz. But, but but a but but, the iranians destroyed about 320-400 Iraqi tanks and armored vehicles, but they lost a hell of a lot as well.
70,000 Revolutionary Guard and Basij members struck after their own airforce destroyed a lot of iraqi air craft and established air superiority. Saddam said to his troops to not lose the city of Khorramshahr. To be honest, holy **** , this was a hell of a battle. Let me hit you up with the casualties, 19,000 Iraqis surrendered to the Iranians. A total of 10,000 Iraqis were killed or wounded in Khorramshahr, and the Iranians took 30,000 casualties
Yeah, child soldiers, both sides had them althought iran used more, cough, how ******* sad is that? Being a child soldier, hell i hope none of you under 18 are forced to fight, i hope none of you ever have children that are forced to fight. Now iran invades iraq, 180,000 troops, Iranian guards wanted to capture the city of baghad to hopefully end the war before their weapons shortages affected them more. Thiswas heavy fighting, human wave attacks, both sides fighting hand to hand, iranian infantry throwing grenades into tanks, but after a few days of the offensive and the iranians seizing almost 10 miles, their advance was stopped and like holy **** , reading the battle, human waves, armored warfare, helicopters destroying and stopping iranian tanks, it's heavy stuff. The offensive was a disaster. Iran in 1982 did not do anymore large scale attack. Although they tried to attack and capture the city of mandali, but when iraq reinforced the city, Iranians could not take it.
Iran on 6 February 1983 launched operation Fajr al-Nasr, or before dawn for you who dont speak haji, let me tell you this, Iraq troops put alot of mines, and some they couldn't replaced but that did a lot of damage to the iranians. Iraqis attempted to push back but could not due to massive amount of iranian, i almost spelled armenian, i'm really tired sorry, i'll finished this before 4, i promise. So iraqi troops could not fight offensively and therefore were ordered to fight defensively and not lose land to iran. So iran lauched 10 dawn operations, which by i believe the fourth, the iraqis used chemical weapons agaisnt the kurds, oh yeah the kurds were helping iran.
Fun fact, the iranians at the beggining outnumbered the iraqis, but eventually after much spending on defense as well as increasing the draft, by 1984, the armies were equal in size but the iraqis had more tanks. Iranians on February 15 1984, 250,000 iranian troops faced 250,000 iraqi troops as the iraqis attempted to stop the iranians from seizing the Basra Baghdad highway. On 24 February Iranian infantrymen crossed the Hawizeh Marshes, they eventually took the islands there, but holy **** , iraqi air force shot down 49 of 50 iranian helicopters, fighting was in water 6 feet high and something kinda funny, but really ****** up happened when the iraqis put a live electric wire in the water and electrocuted iranians, when the iranians were close to the highway, they were pushed back by iraqi troops.
So the war was hard on both sides, so iraq tried to get the iranians to respond so badly that the super powers would get involved. and by that i mean more involved than how we were before with funding and weapon giving. So iraq attacked iranian shipping. it was bad, and the US threatened to get involved if Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz. So Iraq also spilled its spaghetti and accidently hit the USS Stark, killing 31 and wounding a lot more. The Iranians accidently attacked two soviet ships.
Also, the Iraq began bombing, sending missiles and chemical attacks on iraninan targets, mostly civilian. iran usually scrambled fighters and intercepted those fighters. About 1,500 civilians died.
In 1985, Iraq was able to attack for the first time in years. however, they did not get the chance to advance much when attacking the marshes captured by the iranians. Iraq started the bombing campaigns once more, and iran retaliated by sending SCUD missiles again. Iraq attacked again in 1985 on failed. Iran retaliated and were finally able to break through reach the Basra Baghdad highway, reach the tigris river but saddam used chemical weapons again. Eventually iranian troops were cut off, and pushed back with iraqi troops recapturing the Basra Baghdad highway.
February 10 1986, 30,000 Iranian troops captured Al Faw, iraqis failed to recapture the city, twice. Okay after that iranian troops tried to take Umm Qasr, but failed causing 10,000 Iraqis and 30,000 Iranians casualties. Saddam declared a new offensive against Iran after the capture of AL Faw, and took the Iranian border city of Mehran. Iraq said they would exchange it for Al Faw, but iran refused, and took the city back by force.
On 25 December 1986, iran launched a diversionary attack to Umm al-Rassas which when defeated, the iraqis pulled back. Course when the main attack came, most iraqis had pulled back leaving the area very lightly guarded. Eventually the Iranians began pushing through heavy iraq defenses set up prior, but when the iraqis began reinforcing the islands, the iranians did the same thing and the iraqi air force combatted the iranian airfoce but the fighting became a stalemate and the iraqis took outa great amount of iranian troops that they pushed back to the original positions.

It was a big mess on both sides, the air attacks and tanker attacks continued, and eventually the US sent Navy Seals to capture an Iranian mine laying ship. UN passes resolution to stop fighting and go back pre-war boundries, iranians considered this since it would benefit them and iraq would not keep territory it took.
Hoping to get even more favorable conditions, six attacks and counter attacks happened ended in thousands of deaths on both sides civilians and military alike. Iraq threatened to gas the iranians and iran saw no one would stop them and the civilians were not protected for gas attacks. On 20 July 1988, Iran accepted Resolution 598, showing its willingness to accept a ceasefire.
But Iraq being the dick it was, authorized a final attack to Tehran in the hopes of capturing it after the ceasefire. The iranians defeated the Mujahadeen-e-Khalq, and Iraq faced a lot of scrutiny for it. Fun fact because of this war, it was the reason why iraq invaded kuwait, because they were so broke. Now take these numbers with a grain of salt but its the average numbers ive found, Iraqi casualties are estimated at least 105,000 to 200,000 killed, Iranian casualties are about 200,000 to 220,000 killed
I know this isn't part of the war, but i'm getting this, it's a digital flora gorka uniform. why? i'm going innawoods in november and me and a few buddies are gonna go dick around in the woods. Well this was the iran iraq war, another pointless bloodbath that solved nothing, made the US hated even more, made the rich richer and well killed a lot of people will try to upload once a day again.
