War: Falkland War
Sorry if I'm a bit late today, alright, let's get this done. First, disclaimer, I try to be as objective as possible, but a bit about me, my mother's family is from England but my grandfather was American, but they moved to mexico and my dad is half mexican and half Spanish, they met up in the US when my mother received American citizenship, and for some reason all hispanics hate argentinians, I'll try to keep that hate away from the history. Let's get this steamrolling. Now the Argentinians have been a bit salty since they sold the Falklands to the UK, and there was a military dictator for Argentina. Guess how we know how the nazis hid in argentina, anyway, there was a lot of economic stagnation and unrest, so the government believed if they took the islands they would swell with nationalism and the UK wouldn't get involved.
On April 2, 1982, the argentinians invaded the Island. At the same day, they entered capital Port Stanley and forced Governor Rex Hunt to surrender. Here we have some Argentinians troops relaxing on Port Stanley. My government, the US didn't want the Argentinians to go with the Soviets for support.
Now Thatcher was pretty pissed. Iron lady called a war cabinet and called for a task force to retake the island. The whole task force eventually comprised 127 ships: 43 Royal Navy vessels, 22 Royal Fleet Auxiliary ships and 62 merchant ships.
On April 25, Royal Marines were able to take the Island of South Georgia from the Argentinians. There was an event which the ARA Santa Fe was captured after some fighting and eventually the British too the Island. Oh and the British accidently killed an unarmed prisoner who was thought to be sabotaging the sub.
Bombing campaign from a RAF Avro Vulcan B.Mk.2 strategic bomber that did a 2,000 miles.
Argentine cruiser General Belgrano torpedoed and sunk by British submarine HMS Conqueror, killing more than 320 Argentine sailors, the single biggest loss of life in the war. Margaret Thatcher faces criticism over the sinking because the vessel was outside the 200-mile exclusion zone around the Falklands.
So Argentinians aircraft attack task force while British planes mount first air raids on Port Stanley airfield.

After the sinking the General Belgrano, Exocet missile strike from the Argentine 2nd Naval Air Fighter/Attack Squadron destroyed the HMS Sheffield.
British landings begin at San Carlos.
Frigate HMS Ardent sunk by Argentine aircraft, killing 22 sailors, there were a lot of ship sinking on both sides.

HMS Coventry sunk by Argentine aircraft, killing 19. Twelve killed in missile attack on British Merchant Navy vessel Atlantic Conveyor, holy crap was this naval fighting depressing
British troops readying for Goose Green assault
More troops ready for the assault
More British troops
Battle of Goose Green. Seventeen soldiers from 2 Para killed in two days of fierce fighting, which ends in Argentine surrender with dozens killed and more than 1,000 taken as prisoners of war
Helmets of the captured Argentinians after the battle, there were thousands of them

Map of troop movement and positions, there was a lot of air campaigns and argentinian bombardments into UK naval troops

UK troops had trouble since the beginning with their equipment since the air attacks from the Argentinians had caused more problems for logistics. British troops first landed on the Island without their equipment.

How many of you like the Gurkhas? Because the UK was fighting, Gurkha divisions were used in fighting as well.
Some SAS troops, before trying to fight to take the capital had to take the mountains overlooking the capital of Port Stanley.

Now you /k/ommandos don't kill me if i get the variant wrong, but something interesting to note was that a majority of the rifles used by both sides was the FN FAL. An interesting thing to note of that interesting thing note was that the British forces had their variant on semi auto while the argentinians had it on full auto. From what I understand the semi auto version had more control than the full auto.
Eventually, General Mario Menendez surrenders to Major General Jeremy Moore as British forces March into Port Stanley. Here we have argentinian prisoners being taken away.

Here we have captured weapons from the argentinians. Now there were a lot of deaths at sea, a lot of fighting in the air with Harrier jets. This was a successful war for the British and an embarrassment for the Argentinians, other than their existence, oh sorry there i go interjecting my own dislike of them either way. So it drove the Argentinian leader to resign and a big embarrassment to argentinians, something i like to bring up when I worked in cali with them.
Here we have the Iron Lady herself Margaret Thatcher in a armored vehicle, now this drove her popularity up.
Be pleased to inform Her Majesty that the White Ensign flies alongside the Union Jack in South Georgia. God Save the Queen.
