In 1992 there was a communist nation called Yugoslavia made up of more ethnic cultures than a multicultural Germany. In this nation we had Serbs, Croats and Bosnians. Now the reason they all went to war, basically, was because Croats and Serbs living in Bosnia wanted to annex land for Croatia and Serbia.

The war started in 1992 following the breakup of Yugoslavia, and when this happened, the city of Sarajevo was put under siege. This was the longest siege of modern warfare. It was under siege for 1,425 days from April 5th, 1992 to the 29th of February 1996. It was initially under siege by the Yugoslav People's Army, until disbanded which was then under sieged by the Army of Republika Srpska. To be clear those were Bosnian Serbs

Now the UN being the worthless bunch they are got involved early on and were pretty much useless, like almost always. They set up "safe zones" for muslim living in bosnian and under resolution 824 sent peacekeepers to defend them. Let's just say yeah, they weren't safe.

Now ya'll know this sexy son of a bitch. Now there were a few genocides during this war, and they were mostly against muslim bosnians. He partook in them, and essentially "removed kebab" or kill muslims.

I can verify this information as i am Bosnian and had to live through 2 years of the war. **** was really rough and nearly everything was traded off for basic needs. The war really damaged the economy in which the rice got even more rice as they were the ones who offered to trade food for your car or something valuable and the poor well suffered even more. However my family owns a few places down there and a few condos in Herzegovina. Not even gonna lie every summer we went back through certain parts of the city you could find guns just laying around and this is why we have a nice pile of rifles, pistols, grenades and lots of ammunition just lying around. If this gets enough attention ill share my crazy stories that happened to my family and i from being born there and visiting all the time

Ethnic cleansing of Serbs That's a rather biased view of things. Muslims and Croats killed and ethnically cleansed Serbs but this was white-washed by western propaganda.

That's a reconquista for you mate.
#50 to #35 - givemethesalt (09/19/2015) [-]
Croat here. Yeah, Serbs were ethnically cleansed during Independent State of Croatia. That was WW2 and no one is denying or trying to hide the facts regarding it. People did die and it's a tragic thing, but what about Serbian propaganda where they inflated the number of victims? It's quite low to exploit deaths of your people like that.
Yugoslavian wars are more recent so nobody mentions ww2 at this point. If you still mean they were ethnically cleansed during Yugoslavian wars then I don't know what youre talking about because Serbs were the aggressors. There were civilian victims on Croatian land, but that wasn't ethnic cleansing.
#74 to #50 - tjubox (09/19/2015) [-]
> If you still mean they were ethnically cleansed during Yugoslavian wars then I don't know what youre talking about because Serbs were the aggressors

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Storm
Remember, ethnic cleansing doesn't necessarily mean killing people.
The worst part of this is that Operation Storm is a national holiday in Croatia
#86 to #74 - givemethesalt (09/19/2015) [-]
Yeah, Operation Storm helped us regain lost territory back and I won't lie that some Serbs were forced to leave. Most of Serbs living in Croatia left on their own (they even had preparations in case they lose war so they can leave as soon as possible) because they lost the war. It was civilians in the first place that stirred **** up, like blocking roads and **** , because they wanted to be part of Serbia. Serbian civils rebeled so not all of them were neutral and they surely didn't really want to stay in the country where they incited war.
Operation storm is celebrated because it's not criminal operation, as I said it helped us regain our lost **** . We already got enough of **** for defending our country. I guess some civilian victims don't matter if youre a bigger western country. As if every war was clean. I'm not approving of it or anything, civilian deaths are tragic, but it wasn't an operation to drive out serbian civilians, but serbian forces.
Also don't tell me worst part is that we celebrate victory and independence of our country. Serbs celebrate their lost war too and they celebrate Log Revolution where civilian rebels blocked the roads with wooden logs in order to hurt our tourism and just cause annoyance (things like this is why they left voluntarily).
#91 to #86 - tjubox (09/19/2015) [-]
>left volutarily
Ah yes, the old "Pack up barely a suitcase of essentials and leave your home half an hour later" style of voluntary emigration.

>Serbia incited the war
Slovenia and Croatia declared independence in `92, who were still part of the SFRJ. All military actions on the Serbian side were carried under the authority of the JNA (Yugoslavian People's Army) in response to an unconstitutional secession of these two states.

Also, the first sentencing in Hague for war crimes was for a Croatian soldier, who aided in the execution of over 1000 Bosnian civilians. www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/inatl/longterm/balkans/timeline.htm

I'm not saying you have no right to a state of your own today, but I'm just showing information that the Croats were not all gud bois hu dindu nuffin. Serbia had it's fair share of ****** moves as well, but due to the Serbs being designated "bad guys" of the war, a lot of the information that is found today on the internet doesn't tell both sides of the story, as this comp somewhat proves.
Fun fact: Bosnian, Croat, and Serbian generals regularly had meetings on how to profit the most, all the while putting rank-and-file soldiers and civilians through the grinder.
Bonus viewing in embed, it's a Czech documentary about the SFRJ, the war, the golden 90s and what's what today. Warning, it's 2 hours long.

Left voluntarily as in they stirred **** up, war was lost so they had nothing else left, if they stayed they would be caught in some nasty **** . Since they got involved it had it's consequences and like I said they were prepared for it, so not all of them were just neutral civilians. It's nothing to be proud of I know, but if you're having training on how to leave the country then you knew what you were getting involved in.

SFRJ consisted out of countries that voluntarily entered into the federation and could voluntarily leave the federation at any time with their territory intact, so again I don't get what you're talking about. Sounds like you're saying Serbia had that right and power to keep those states part of Yugoslavia because they owned them? Yugoslavia consisted out of states that were equal.

Soldier's name was Dražen Erdemović and he was Bosnian not Croatian, his last name is not even remotely close to being Croatian. Wikipedia states he was bosnian croat, so I assume his mother was croatian. He was born and lived in Bosnia though.
"Dražen Erdemović (born 25 November 1971) is an ethnic Bosnian Croat who fought during the Bosnian War for the Army of Republika Srpska (VRS) and who was later sentenced for his enforced participation in the 1995 Srebrenica massacre."
He fought on Serbian side, so please read more carefully.

I'm not saying Croatians were angels, but you are trying to make it seem like both sides were equal in the war when in fact war was fought on our territory and they were aggressors. Civilians die in every war, Serbian civilians died on Croatian territory, but massacres Serbians did are unforgivable. It was all thanks to Serbian media who was giving out false information (they once reported how Bosnians feed Serbian children to the lions in the zoo) so soldiers would have no sympathy for civilians and soldiers they slaughtered.

This "comp" is basically a Serb-hating post. I'm not really impressed mate.

You probably shouldn't say dumb **** like "watch this movie... it's LOOSELY based on..."

For real? You really want people to watch a god damn Hollywood propaganda film?
Early Hollywood action movies:
Who were the villain? Germans
Next? Russians
Next? Serbs and Bosnians
Next? Middles eastern nations

Villains in American movies are based on who they are fighting currently or have fought recently or who they will fight.

I'm a Serb. But I don't hate Americans, Bosnians or Croats.
I lived through that war and I don't hate anyone, because I'm not a moron. I know it's all political ******** that gets started by the people at the top.

Worst thing to come out of that war after all these years is the HATRED that transcended generations.

There are ******* kids now who are 15 years old and feel hate for the other ex-Yugoslavian nations. Why? Because they were told they should.

Everyone committed war crimes in that period, why focus on the Serbs? It's ridiculous propaganda.

Please, red thumbs-galore incoming.
