He never wanted to be the president, it was his brother in line next but his brother died so he was kinda forced to be president because of the whole regime thing. He's mainly a puppet to the advisors, a lot more complicated than that but I'm trying to be as simiple as possible. He sent his military to protect a group of Christians from a terrorist attack, but of course the American media doesn't want you to know that. Under the Assad regime there was peace with Christians and Muslims in Syria. ISIS is ******* things up with it.

That's my impression too. The Assad regime made it so there was peace and secularism in Syria. However, it was still a dictatorship - and thats why the Arab-spring wave hit the country, and when that wave was built up under by western pro-democracy policies its no reason the war is dragging out. Unfortunately, the civil war also brought forward the rise of ISIS.

crazyeyedbioll (09/25/2015) [-] That is a shame. US and Russia have their differences but last time they teamed up it was epic, pretty sure there were games and drinking parties between allied troops at the end of ww2. now those same armies dont like each other
