Why do people like Daenerys? Shes a whiny retard with ideals that **** over everyone and the only reason she is even alive is because of her retarded luck
Being more than good and bad is fine, although we do have 2d characters like Cersei and Ramsay
But i mean, Jamie is great, the onion knight is great
Why settle for stupid trash like Daenerys
Was never really a fan of her but she seems like the only decent choice left (other than the Tyrells who have been irrelevant for a while now).
I doubt Davos is going to do anything next season if Stannis ends up being dead for real, otherwise Davos is the best by far.
Chances are its gonna end with Bran becoming king or something
And Snowy Jon is probably gonna come back, otherwise all that **** about who his parents are is gonna have been a huge waste of time
Also, the whole part where she got that army of slaves or whatever, doesn't make sense. No one would sell their entire army.
Thats like selling your only gun. Guy gives you money, you give him your only weapon, he points a gun at you and take money back. Thats exactly what happened in Game of Thrones, but with army not a gun.
The city that was selling those slave-soldiers couldn't just rob Daenerys because they rely on slave-trade - if word got around that they used their army to steal the dragon from a buyer, no one would ever trade with them again.
But this means that they would never sell more than 50% of their army to a single buyer, cause thats just retarded.
The slavers have been in power for so long that they have forgotten that they are not all powerful immortals. Years of holding the power of life and death over countless slaves and reigning over a city that even Dothraki don't try to sack have lead the masters of Astapor into a false sense of security. In all the years since the Unsullied were first trained, no one had owned enough of them to be a threat to Astapor.
And who was this Daenerys Stormborn anyway? Just a penniless barbarian who happened to have the good fortune of owning the last three dragons. Surely such as she was no match to the mighty masters of Astapor!
Here in front of them were the last three dragons of legend. Creatures that no one in living memory has ever seen. And the prospect of owning one of them blinded them to everything else. Think of the power they would hold over all nations!
How would they contain the dragon? How would they protect their city without the Unsullied? All these questions seemed so far away in front of such a salivating prize such as owning a dragon.
Well she is one of the few people that would really try to make things better if she was on the Iron Throne, and in a few years when she is fighting for it she might have grown and learned how to be a better ruler. So people like her because they think she is the best shot at a good ruler, albeit not now.
Idealistic retards dont make good rulers dude
She would probably try to force **** like she did with the slaves and end up ******* up the economy and cause huge starvation
I am just saying she is one of the few people that cares about who she rules over. And she does try to make better decisions as she goes on, so with a few years before she can actually become queen she can grow and learn a lot about ruling. Plus having to win her crown would give her a lot of practical experience.
Well, not so much caring as "slave, but i was a slave too!"
I mean, if she really cared about her people she wouldnt start a war everywhere she went because she feels she is entitled to the throne
Considering pretty much EVERYONE would make a better ruler than her and that her only reason anyone follows her is lineage i think im pretty justified in finding her to be complete ****
Everyone else going for the throne is just as bad in their own ways, and some just don't give a **** about anything as long as they have the throne, like Littlefinger. The only good one is dead.
Basically what im saying is that the peasants would make better rulers since atleast they know some things needed by the kingdom
Everyone going for the throne are assholes, this is true, but some of them would make competent rulers atleast
Littlefinger is a dick, but he is smart and he knows how to run ****
Littlefinger has said multiple times he would kill literally everyone just to wear the crown, and he is the entire reason all this **** started. So I don't think his cunning makes up for that.
Also saying peasants would make better rulers is just stupid because there are so many of them that by sheer numbers alone, one of them has to be pretty cool.
First, there is no point to being king when you have no subjects, Littlefinger would be an asshole, but he would rule properly to make his land strong
Also, you misunderstand my peasant thing, i mean literally any peasant would be a better ruler than daenerys, cause atleast they know a little about how life works and havent just been given everything their entire lives
Daenerys is a better ruler than you giver credit for. She individually saw peasants about their problems, plus it is a good thing that she gets rid of slavery.
Seeing the peasants individually means she is basically wasting her time since the kingdom will have millions of them with problems
And getting rid of slavery like she did is just foolish
The way she does things is basically gonna end with "fat food isnt good for you so we are gonna take that away" and then they starve since she took away the only food they had
"Slavery is bad, so im gonna slaughter this city and free the slaves/take them as my own"
You can call them free all you want, but her army is just her changing ownership of the slaves, she didnt really give them a choice, good luck surviving on your own after you have your entire life been made to rigidly obey others and not having any survival skills
Well she does have some of the most disciplined and well trained soldiers there are. So if they get some dragonglass daggers and arrowheads, and valryian steel swords, they would be more effective than the night's watch. Plus dragon's fire is probably good against white walkers even though regular fire isn't good against them.
Also I did not think I would be making this many comments tonight.
Murdering dragon is redundant, it is kinda what they do. Also she does give the freed slaves a choice to leave.
Also when she does come to power she is one of the few people that will be able to get **** done because of those dragons and her name she'll have more power. And if she wins she'll punish those responsible for the cluster **** of a war that Westoros is in.
Murdering dragons is not redundant since her dragons werent trained properly and ate children
And giving the blank slate obedience slaves the choice between starving and dying in the empty town or following her isnt really a choice
And she cant really punish herself you know
No matter who ends up the king or queen they are all going to make **** worse. And Daenarys would be one of the few people to take the threat of white walkers seriously before it is too late.
Not really, she doesnt even know about the white walkers
And even after they win against the white walkers shes gonna make it worse since she dont know **** about ruling
The only good quality she has is that shes got a few good subordinates
THAT. She has people surrounding her that are capable. She has growing to do, but with people like Varys and Tyrion around her I think she could manage to be decent. At least better than Tommen is currently, and they are really the only two candidates left.
She doesn't know about the white walkers because she is on a different continent and no one besides the night's watch cares, so who would even relay the information?
Good point of why she wouldnt be any more efficient against the white walkers, her dragons arent mature enough to slaughter thousands either, so the only useful ones would be Snowy Jon and his merry men and maybe evil fire priests
the war didn't start prematurely, Littlefinger killed Robert's old hand. Robert went and got Ned being the only person he could trust. Littlefinger had Lysa send a letter to Cat saying the Lannisters were to blame for her husband's death. So Ned investigated the Lannisters found out their secret, then ****** up himself by being honorable to Cersei. Littlefinger set up Ned to be captured or killed. Joffery is a shortsighted little cunt that killed Ned,. Robb wanted to avenge his father. Stannis had claim to the throne after Robert. Daenarys had nothing to do with it, and the people that did weren't thinking of her or her brother when they did their **** .
Shes got things to do with the war dude, i mean the only competent people on her continent are the exiles from the war
But what im saying is that maybe knowing a dragon bitch is coming makes some of them wanna unite the country under a single banner a little faster
Either way shes gonna be responsible for **** when she arrives
I'm saying everything started before her, and wasn't because of her. It isn't until after everything was set up to fall that Westeros learned she married Drogo. So while everything was being planned and enacted they all thought she and her brother were just squatters with a noble name.
She is definitely partly to blame
The blame should be spread all around, but the fact that a bitch with dragons is amassing an army to conquer the kingdoms probably sped up the people there wanting to take over
You can not reasonable blame her for any of that in Westeros. Littlefinger was planning and enacting the **** that started the war long before they knew she was going to marry Drogo. Joffery was a little cunt, that killed Ned before she had her dragons. Robb never cared about Daenerys. Jamie and Cersei are the reason Joffery was born, and Robert was a terrible father and king. Daenarys didn't start her stuff until the war of already started.
Im saying maybe the war had to start prematurely because there was a bitch amassing an army to invade, that bitch and his sister had been waiting to invade for some time and Robert had spies checking out what they were doing
Well to be fair, she is a teenager; they tend to not make the most competent of rulers. Especially entitled ones like Daenerys. Valid point about people liking her though, that doesn't make too much sense. It's probably because she has dragons and is the last living for sure Targaryen, so some Targ fans may feel obligated to like her.
That's why my spoiler specified "for sure" Targaryen. I don't think he's the legit Aegon. He's either a Blackfyre Pretender or some random Lysene ************ they picked up.
Eh, I'm not big on the Tyrion being a secret Targaryen. But I do believe Jon is a Rhaegar's son (not a Targaryen though; he's still a bastard and so still Snow).
She's a pretty believable "teenage girl with dragons and madness in her family". That's why I like her chapters in the books, anyway. I don't personally find it important that I agree with a character or that they're good at what they're do when I "decide" whether or not I like them.
EXACTLY. She means well but she understands precisely nothing about anything. "Let me just tear down this city's entire power structure and leave, allowing centuries of social tensions to explode on their own with no rule of law, I'm sure nothing bad will result from this!" She feels like the one character whose exempt from Martin's rules, because most people are screwed if they **** up once, while she ***** up constantly and is still fine.
Shes just so entitled and stupid...
She never thinks and the only reason shes still alive is because most people wanna tap that
Like that one mercenary dude that killed his companions and then ******* infiltrated her entire warcamp and got to her bathing tent with a bag with heads in it
She wouldve been totally ****** if he didnt wanna bang her hehe
And she wouldve starved outside of Qarth if the black guy didnt wanna bang her
She wouldve been killed when trying evil magic if Ser Jorah didnt wanna bang her
I mean, its kind of understandable in the books since she is 13 but in the series she just goes around and lucks out
Yeah, totally
But in a series with characters like the onion knight and Jamie Lannister for some reason many people have her as a favorite character and think shes a strong female character
I just dont get why anyone would have her as a favorite character except for her being hot
If you want a strong female, what's wrong with Arya? Why go with the bratty child whose always droning on about "muh betrayed family" when she has to know what a monster her father was?
Arya is pretty awesome
Though i get the feeling they didnt really tell Daenerys any bad things about the family
I mean, she pretty much never even saw her father and she grew up with bitchdragon dude
Also, the people that know the Targaryens true ******* are very few in the kingdoms
The one i hate most in the series is Catelyn Stark though
Shes ******* awful
Cat has traits I both like and hate. I like how she'd grab a Valyrian steel dagger by the blade to protect her son, but I hate her treatment of Jon Snow. The one I hate most in the series is Walder Frey, though. Some others I hate include Ramsay, Roose, Cersei, and Joff, with everyone else well behind. They have told Daenerys some **** about her dad, but what I especially hate is how she still hangs on to her lying brother's every word.
Atleast Ramsay, Roose, Cersei, Walder and Joffrey dont pretend to be something theyre not and act sanctimonious about everything
Cat jumps to conclusions, uses people without a thought, is selfish and hateful and acts like she knows everything
She almost gets Ned killed because shes an idiot and kidnaps Tyrion without thinking
And she treats Jon like **** and ******* HATES him
She even comes back from beyond the grave to be a bigger cunt
I don't think stringing up Freys counts as being a bigger cunt, and Brienne having a Lannister sword is a little bit suspicious. Other than that, I largely agree. Only other tidbit is that trusting Littlefinger's advice on Tyrion makes her look stupider in the show than in the books, as Littlefinger is much less of a known schemer in the books.
Just saying its ridiculously suspicious that someone would arm their assassin with an incredibly rare expensive one of a kind weapon that is known to be owned by them
Its like the starks wanting to assassinate someone and leaving Ice behind impaled into the corpse
I agree (that image is hysterical by the way, a five foot great sword sticking out of a corpse and someone sneaking away), but she didn't know Tyrion to be exceptionally smart, and a trusted friend told her that the knife was Tyrion's. We do know that someone was stupid enough to arm an assassin with that knife, because Joffrey did it when the blade belonged to his "father."
Actually it was Cersei who wanted to frame Tyrion since she is a massive cunt
Joffrey didnt even know of the wincest **** until later
But Cat doesnt understand the implications of her actions, "gee lets kidnap a noble person, cause im sure their family will be super understanding and not at all go for the nearest stark for good trading material!"
No, it wasn't about the incest. Joffrey heard Robert drunkenly say that the boy would be better off dead than crippled, so Joff stole Robert's knife and gave it to the Catspaw, figuring he could win daddy's approval that way.
He didn't lose it to Tyrion, that was the lie. He wanted unrest between the Starks and Lannisters. He lost the knife to Robert in a bet on Loras' joust with the Mountain.
Yeah, she is. I just feel bad for all the great characters who got caught in the crossfire, like Ned, Tyrion, Robb, Jorey, and the tens of thousands who died in the war between Starks and Lannisters. I wish Robb would've just gone with Stannis, because then Stannis might never have gotten so wrapped up in the cult **** , and Westeros would have a decent king (not to mention a great Warden of the North).
Yeah, there was some hope there when the onion knight first showed up and convinced him to go to battle without the red bitch, but then Tyrion ****** all that up
Slightly on/off topic... but I absolutely loved the Republic gunships from the Clone Wars. The sounds those thing's engines made were so damn satisfying.
Same, those things look and sound so badass
The Republic LAAT/i gunships were based on the Russian Mil-Mi Hind gunships
I can see the badassery transfers well between fantasy and real life
Star Wars generally had great sound design. It was one of the best things about the prequels.
In fact, my favorite sound effect from anything ever was having the privilege of hearing this in theaters. **** , I was like 8 years old when I saw this scene, but I still remember it as if I were there.
I always die a little inside when an honestly mediocre actual fantasy or science fiction series gets turned into some form of mass media and then all pop culture in the first world spends the next decade sucking it's dick.
Martin's overwritten garbage that should have ended three books ago gets a full television series with a production value of tens of millions, while stuff like Ender's Game or the Dresden Files gets a made for television budget with a charity part played by someone with a big name. And the really good things are outright ignored. You will never get a television series for Wheel of Time or the Foundation series. You'll never see a Fablehaven anything. They'll never put the Lensman on the silver screen. There will never be a Septimus Heap or The Candy Shop War movie. Nobody will ever pour in millions to make a good modern retelling of Dune with live action and physical props. If anyone even bothers to visit it again, it will be exclusively green screen and the budget will be the money out of somebody's spare change pizza jar.
I really don't mean to **** all over Martin, because I don't hate him as a writer. I hate him as a person, because he's an unashamed Marxist apologist, but I don't hate him as a writer. His writing needs work. He's got the same problem Robert Jordan did, which is that he doesn't know when to just shut the **** up and wrap it all up already, because we've been on this same plotline for three eight hundred page books and ******* nothing has changed besides set pieces.
So when I see this sort of **** just get put on a shining pedestal of gold and be endlessly fellatiated as the high water mark standard of writing and world building, it pisses me off. No, it's no such thing. We know what the high watermark standard is, and it isn't this. You only say that it is because you have no clue where the real high water mark is. It's like you've been eating piss and dog **** your whole life, and then somebody gives you a Pizza Hut pizza, and you proclaim it the greatest cuisine ever created in the world. I get why you think that, I truly do, but you're wrong. It's not the best cuisine in the world. It's not even the best pizza.
You think you have nice things, but you don't. You have mediocre things with ludicrously huge budgets. Like Battlefront and Fallout 4. You aren't allowed to have actually nice things. If you were, Cartoon Network wouldn't have ********** Megas XLR, Konami wouldn't have told Kojima to go **** himself off a pier with concrete shoes on, and Bethesda would have re-released Morrowind, Fallout, and Fallout 2 with modern graphics and fixes to all the old bugs and gameplay issues.
Is Septimus Heap the seventh son of the seventh son magic dude in the world where wizards have green eyes, witches blue eyes, the princess has purple eyes, and ghost can't be seen or move from where they die for a year any a day?
A quick google search will help. Dune by Frank Herbert, Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card, Foundation series by Isaac Asimov, Dresden files by Jim Butcher, everything lordraine said is gold. I named those authors off from memory.
Ender's Game, by Orson Scott Card, is a very old and very good piece of science fiction. You don't have to read the entire series, but I would recommend you at least read Ender's Game itself if you are a fan of science fiction at all.
The Dresden Files was authored by Jim Butcher, and is modern fantasy with some mystery and noire elements, though at times the noire goes away or gets blended with a more action-adventure swashbuckling vibe. The books vary in quality accordingly, though none of them are bad. Most people who have read it tend to agree that Storm Front, Summer Knight, Blood Rites, and Small Favor are among the best. Dead Beat and Skin Game are the current high water marks of the series so far, in my opinion.
The Wheel of Time, written by Robert Jordan, is half of the foundational cornerstone of all modern fantasy, the other half being The Lord of Rings and the associated body of works by Tolkien.
It is also living proof that you can get away with literal theft in the writing world as long as you are beloved, since that is exactly what George R.R. Martin did. The majority of the plot points in Fire and Ice and especially Game of Thrones that make things interesting were lifted directly from Wheel of Time, such as the concept of a chosen one of an entire race of people being associated with dragons (Rand > Daenerys), or the very concept of the Game of Thrones played by the nobility (Daes Dae'mar, The Great Game). Robert Jordan also had the same problem with writing that Martin did, which is that he was in dire need of an editor. Those fourteen books could have been compressed into nine, i.e. a trilogy of trilogies, if he had practiced some restraint in his writing. Martin has the same problem, but he's not as good of a writer, and he isn't half as original either. Where Martin needs crudeness and pornography to get his message across, Jordan relies on elegance and classical themes of tragedy and the struggle of great forces.
The Foundation series is written by Isaac Asimov, and is another must read of the science fiction genre. It is Asimov's magnum opus. Read them in the order that they were published, not the chronological order of the series itself.
The Lensman series was written by Edward Elmer Smith. It lost out on winning a Hugo award to the Foundation series, but only just. It is yet more old science fiction that is required reading for anyone who likes the genre, and will also further illustrate to you just how lazy some more modern writers have been, as you will see many things in Lensman that have been reappropriated, refurbished, or outright stolen to be used elsewhere. The Marvel and DC comic universes, the Stargate series, Warhammer 40k, and many other modern science fiction settings owe a great deal to Lensman. Additionally, if you would like to read another "Prime" series that has inspired many other things, you should also read Starship Trooper by Robert Heinlein. Every single science fiction supersoldier owes something to Heinlen, from the Emperor's Space Marines to Master Chief. Starship Trooper was the beginning of it all, the grandfather of military science fiction. It also stands on it's own merit as one of the best examples of military science fiction ever written.
The Fablehaven series and The Candy Shop War were both written by Brian Mull. They were originally intended to be adult fiction, but his publisher advised him that they would do better as children's books, so he retooled them as such. They are still excellent reading, and retains elements of older and more traditional children's fantasy, which didn't sugarcoat things with light and magic, and didn't shy away from using symbolic representations of things like rape to teach children important lessons about the world. It has been whitewashed for children's literature, but it is still quite dark and serious, with a strong narrative flow.
Septimus Heap is written by Angie Sage, and it is indeed "that story where wizards have green eyes, black magic is people talking backwards while casting spells, and ghosts cannot be seen or move from the place of their death for a year and a day." It is quite good, and you should read the entire series if you haven't already.
If you liked Septimus Heap, and it appears you did, since you remembered the series but not the name, you might also like The Enchanted Forest Chronicles series by Patricia Wrede, which is a lighthearted and satirical deconstruction of classical fantasy, the Thraxas novels by Martin Scott, which are best described as "a comedic Dungeons & Dragons game being played in medieval noire fantasy, and the Xanth series, written by Piers Anthony, which is a very old and long running fantasy series that, much like Alice in Wonderland, greatly enjoys mathematical jokes and grammar punts and doesn't take itself seriously at all. Except when it does.
I have been dying for Nor Crystal Tears to get a well made movie. And there's an entire tv show to be made from Pip and Flinx. If it got the same treatment as Farscape that would be the greatest ******* thing ever.
As if someone as wise and averse to murder and tyranny as Yoda would ever side with Dany, who's quickly shaping up to be the Mad King 2.0; Now With a Vagina. Seriously, **** Dany, worse character in the show, the only person that MIGHT be worse that her is book Dany, but it's too close to be sure. I'm really hoping Martin gives into his murderous nature just long enough for us to she this awful woman die.
Yeah, I should really re-read the books because I only remember certain things. I really hope GRRM hurrys and finishes this next one before season 6, although it's unlikely that'll happen
>Showrunners D. B. Weiss and David Benioff created the series, wrote most of its episodes and directed some of them.
