i think this was the moment that made
most of us despise umbridge more
than voldemort
most of us?! don' t you mean ALL of us?'? I
don' t think even liked this twitcha.
No one likes Lumbridge.
I heard. one time, a dementor kissed her and IT
died
Voldemort committed genocide. out Lumbridge dared to
he female while she abused her power.
The point isn' t that Lumbridge was worse than voldemort: it' s
that everyone hates her more- and I think it has nothing to
do with her pang a woman and everything with being the
sort of cruel most of us have actually experienced.
I mean, look at He' s psysically Wizard Hitler, which
is, obviously, an incredibly terrible thing to he But most
the younger people in Harry Potter' s
target not had their parents murdered toy a
xenophobic cult leader- Nor have they fought for their lives
against giant snakes, teen kidnapped for dark rituals, or
watched numerous friends die in front of them.
crimes are numerous, out they' re distant and fantastical. like
hearing about a serial killer on the news.
But they have had that one teacher who inflicts extra
punishments just ofcause they don' t like you. They'
complained to parents and authorities only to be ignored.
They' sat through pointless classes and oben silenced
when they criticize. Lumbridge is that teacher we all hated
because she made our lives miserable and we were
powerless to stop her. And as we grow out of school, there
are still people in positions of power who act like her. The
manager who denies your schedule requests and penalizes
you for invented infractions. That customer who complains to
corporate because their scam didn' t work, and the corporate
decision to listen to their story. Cops performing illegal
searches ofcause they know you don' t have any proof.
Yes, torturing and killing numerous people is worse than
terrorizing a handful of schoolchildren, out Voldemort is the
pad guy in a fairytale- Lumbridge is personal.

It's in the subtext. She gets dragged off by a bunch of centaurs, and is seen visibly shaken thereafter. Centaurs, according to Greek mythology, had the intelligence of a man, but the instincts of a beast, or something like that. They were known for lust, violence, and drunkeness. In short, they rĀaped people.

Story time..

When I was 17 I had one of these teachers, her name was Gry (norwegian) and she was my English teacher. She used to openly yell at me in front of the other students in class for something as simple as forgetting a textbook. She also one time stopped the entire class to show on the screen projector how I had been wrong about something, doing this very openly and loudly and with just enough mockery in her voice.

Anyway, she continued being a c-word until one morning in about march, when she came to us and asked us to reimburse her for these books we were supposed to read for class that month. I very openly refused, saying that she couldn't force us to pay for a book that was not apart of our "booklist" (list of books we are required to purchase for that year). She proceeded to yell at me and threatened to report me to the principal and I told her to go right ahead.
Everyone else in our class paid her and the clock ran out on our class, other students beggin me to let it go. Well I went straight to the principal and told him what happened and he said he would see what he could do. Next lecture, she was standing very quietly at the front of the class and finally announced that she had been told by the principal that she wasn't allowed to make us pay for the books and proceeded to walk slowly around the class room, giving the students their money back. Safe to say I sat there with the biggest grin on my face ever.

Side note: I was tipping between an "F" and a "D" in her class, dropped out right after this happened and took an exam at the court house (which you can do for a small sum, but you have to study on your own), didn't prepare at all and got a "B-".

pic related, MFW she paid the students back

I disagree. I would say that there are two types of evil. Actual Hitler level evil, where you do horrible things, like genocide, and have that sociopathic sort of evil. Then there's the Hans from Frozen type of evil, where you can inflict such cruelty as to destroy someone's mind, as opposted to their body. And where you enjoy it. Hans might not be commiting genocide, but he's one evil ************. And Hitler might be commiting genocide, but he may not have been the villain type of personality that mentally ***** with people (idk he might have).

i would like to argue that there is no such thing as evil. wait! hear me out!

people who we consider to be "evil" are actually either
a. believe that what they are doing is for the benefit of their people, humanity, their country, family, business, etc.
prime example is Hitler who believed that he was doing something that benefited mankind (though obviously most of the world thought/thinks otherwise). a smaller example would be that person you hear about on the news who killed a home invader, that person killed another human being but did it with an obvious amount of rationality. so while we may (or may not) view those people as evil, they did what they did with good intentions therefore you cant say they are a lord sauron or voldemort.
or
b. they're crazy, plain and simple.
this is the category serial killers/mass murderers fall into. i refuse to think that people like that can really be considered evil because their brains are malfunctioning.

The more I get to know him the more I realize he has a lot of deeply-buried mental issues that make him over analyze and overreact to situations. I'd say that the difference is in their general level of empathy, or rather lack of.

Voldemort doesn't care for people. Plain and simple. He pursues his goals, and he doesn't give a half of flying **** if anyone dies. He doesn't go the long way around just to hurt someone personally. I mean, yeah, occasionally he will indulge himself into a bit of torture, but generally not if it interferes with his goals.

Umbridge, on the other hand, does what she does out of pure spite. She's a sadistical little cunt with a bit of power which she is misusing. And thats the difference between them.

Pic related, it's how I know this post will make me look.

I sometimes worry about this, actually. I know this will come across as me trying to look "Edgy" or "hardcore" but I've always found it incredibly fascinating to manipulate someone to that level. I love people, and I love hugs so much that I was probably a carebear in a past life, but that aspect of it always fascinates me. Being able to manipulate someone so much that they not only do what you want them to do, but they think it's their idea. To modify someone's personalty so much that they snap. You can break someone like that. And it's easy.

I don't like that I'm so interested in this, and I really don't like that I'm so good at it. It's a weird thing because the last thing I'd want is to hurt someone, but I very much enjoy manipulation. I try very hard not to act on it though, because I had a point where I did without a second thought and I hurt a lot of people. I was just so good at it I didn't want to stop.

You don't come across as edgy to anyone who understands. Personally I try to be as kind and helpful up until it will have negative consequences. Be a little light in someone's life. I use my ... talent? to push myself harder, be better than other people without hindering them, and overcome my own faults. It's a shame the opportunity for manipulation or "gas lighting" usually has negative impacts on other people.

I was going to say more, but I ran out of time and changed my mind.

ALSO: Ciacheczko has an interesting point, but I feel the need to emphasize the need to not adjust your own morals in response to your actions.

Personal advice from me - accept the evil part of your personality. Manipulating is theoretically bad, but can be done for good reasons as well. If I was to serve someone a solid ******** only to help them, I wouldn't hesitate even a minute.

The talent of reading people can be used in many ways, but pretending that you don't like it because some ******** conscience is telling you that you shouldn't like it... this really sucks. **** conscience. Keep your goals ethical, but don't be afraid to act otherwise if the situation requires it.

The problem is you're deciding what "help" is. Is it help to stop a person in constant pain from killing themselves? Was it helpful when hitler killed all the jews, thinking for his while life that he was helping?

You're playing deity, that's the problem. You can lament morals or goodness, but in the end it's all just you deciding that what you think is right and that the other person should ahere to that.

Ah, that's a thing I realized a relatively short while ago. I realized that the well-being of my friends is what I consider right. I do not care about strangers. I only care that my close ones will be happy, even if at someone else's cost.

Helping someone is about pointing the right direction - which is usually the direction to that someone's inside. Because once you are okay with yourself - everything will be okay. No matter what happens.

But you can have your own measures and follow them. As long as it's all about not inflicting direct harm on anyone, I say it's good enough.
