My laptop has an Nvidia GeForce 8400M GS GPU. These chips have a propensity to overheat so much that they desolder themselves from the motherboard. There was a lawsuit, and you could get new computers. The claim period ended a couple years ago.
My GPU has finally succumbed to the "lines of death" failure. Now I have to blast it with a hairdrier once every few days to make my laptop work again.
TL;DR I hate Nvidia now.

This is based on an older stereotyping of Nvidia, AMD and Intel. AMD had massive problems with their drivers, although they are mostly fixed now.
Nvidia had massive problems with their temperatures (I believe this comic is based on Fermi, so this would be the GTX4xx series) and a lot of graphic cards burned off.

Meanwhile, Intel is slowly but steadily gaining pace and making better IGP's all the time.

They don't modify them, at most they overclock the cards, or gets a special deal on dual GPU cards like the GTX690. The biggest difference is the aftermarket cooler they uses, the chip is always the same.

I never mentioned Intel being a graphics card. Also, the new Intel HD graphics card are steadily becoming a lot better. Not in terms of raw power perhaps, but they offer an incredibly high performance, with low TDP. This is very ideal for mediacenters, laptops and small desktop computers, meaning less power consumption, less heat, and no need for an actual graphics card.

The amount of RAM on a graphics card is not equal to its computing power, it just equals the amount of memory it can allocate to textures.

On another note, no Intel IGP uses dedicated RAM.

Yeh but the titan AND 780 both OC way beyond the stock frequency and outperform the 290x whereas the 290x is pretty much already at max OC out of the box (as well as running hotter). This is coming from a happy owner of an HD 7950 so no bias here, just plain facts.

nvidia dropped or will be dropping the price of the 780 to $500. when both 290x and 780 are overclocked, the 780 comes real close and sometimes beats the r9 290x

Actually, having tested both, an overclocked 780 is miles ahead of an overclocked R9 290X. They pushed the hardware way too much so overclocking is pretty hopeless with the AMD card.

i will keep reiterating this across this thread. if you get into HIGH end gaming rigs, you should all together stop worrying about TDP (except when buying a PSU). do something like me, I changed 85% of my lights to compact fluorescence and it did a great job of offsetting the power bill and I never worried about it again, and I run my PC 10-18 hours a day, half of that is gaming.
