Negative is a return path to the transformer / power while Ground is a path to earth / ground. Power should flow between Positive & Negative, the ground is there to prevent shock IF power somehow reaches other metal parts in a device. Think computer case or casing on an electric motor or the metal frame inside a tv to dvd player.
Just to build on what was already said, the negative does indeed go back to the transformer, but since it runs through the other devices on the circuit, it still has relatively high resistance. So if there was a skinned wire somewhere, and a piece was accidentally energized, and you were to touch it, you'd be in for a nasty surprise. Since electricity always takes the path of least resistance back to ground, it's easier to go through you, than through the wires. But if we add a ground, it basically runs straight back to your ground at the transformer, so it has virtually no resistance, making it safer to the touch. Also, this low resistance will draw a very high current, which will almost instantly kick out your over current protection (Breakers)
Well, I'm an Electrician in Canada, so he's an educated guess at whatever the **** that is. It could be two phases, a neutral, and a ground. Like most of our clothes dryers have 120/240. So the motor might be connected to the two phases, to give it 240, and the heater inside it might only be on a single phase and a neutral. And well, the ground is just a safety, like always
I live in Finland That's in Europe, I feel like that is necessary to mention, knowing the American star spangled education. and the only plug I have ever seen with my own eyes is this.
As far as I know, America has all sorts of different butt plugs.
As an American I'll tell you that all I know about Finland is that you guys apparently go to the sauna every day. Also I think Nokia lives there. As far as geography I know Sweden is the ballsack and Sweden and Norway are a two-headed penis.
"sometimes using a third 'earth' plug"
what the **** kinda eurofag **** is that? its the goddamn ground wire. it keeps you from electrocuting yourself by giving current a path of least resistance to travel. its electrically grounded.
goddamn eurotrash man makes me sad that half of my dna comes from spain.
A common means to ground electrical currents was to attach a wire to a rod and stick it in the earth. Thats where the term grounding comes from. Now quit being an asshole.
or maybe you shut your whore mouth eurofag. NOONE in america or mexico and id venture to say canada as well, calls it "earth"
ben ******* franklin himself called it ground.
Carl ******* steinheil called it ground.
how about you stop taking facts out of context and go be a eurofag elsewhere.
then youre ******* retarded. if you call it earth wire in my electrical engineering class youd be ******* laughed at for using some ****** terminology dude cmon im an asshole but atleast im right.
Did I say it was called the earth wire? I let you know the origins of calling it the ground to begin with. Its grounded out because of means developed by much older techniques, such as sticking a ******* rod in the ground. If calling it an earth wire is wrong, then so is calling it a ground wire. Why not simply call it negative? Because youre dumb **** .
also i could spend an hour educating your retard ass about negative/positive/ground. and how youre so ******* retarded for thinking ground=negative but i have neither the patience nor the time.
and the man who first thought of doing that. carl august von stenheil. called it grounding. never did he call it an earth wire. the man who invented ground wiring. called it ground wiring not earth. where the **** "earth" came from i dont ******* know but i do know only eurocucks and retards call it that.
keep crying like a cucktroll bitch. it lubes my cock as i ream your sorry ass.
i just said i have neither the patience nor the time. and you want me to anyway. you are literally too stupid to insult. yet i do anyway.
i love how eurofags are downvote me to oblivion because they know im right.
jealousness is a form of flattery afterall
go ahead keep thumbing me down. it only further proves your ******* ignorance. and yall wonder why youre classified as a second world country these days.
We use transformers to increase the voltage before it travels along power lines so that a lower amount is lost from the wires resistance, so in fact the higher voltages reduce energy loss overall.
but you loose overall amperage meaning less power goes to your appliances. ***** i learned that in basic physics class in goddamn highschool.
git gud you cuck loving ******
P=IV, same power reaches the house otherwise appliances wouldnt work, so more voltage means a lower current, meaning a lower loss of amperage. Git gud faggit.
Living in switzerland I have this exact problem going anywhere. I don't understand why the **** they just put that middle one, it's so unnecessary and inconvenient. I'm sorry for the rant it's just so frustrating. Sometimes even those universal adapters dont work.
joo, here switzerland too...
The swiss plugs are probably the best plugs of the world. They are small and you can't put them the wrong way in, so it's always clear, which the life wire is.
And the "middle one" is sort of your life insurance. Nearly the whole safety concept is about this middle one. There were many deaths otherwise....
