He still gets thumbs. Both positive and negative. Which means his level still goes up.

Also, thumbing him up and down will always, always put him on the top of the controversial sorting.

It's a slippery slope. If everyone gets the mentality of "Wow I have a thought, lets message admin" then soon admin will get like 300 messages a day of "I clicked the thumb button and it said 'request failed try again later' can you help" or "I think you should give me colored text because it will totally improve the site in the following ways."

There should be some consideration towards having a panel of mods that do slightly different functions. Like a "Suggestions Moderator" and a "Technical Moderator" who are all the first point of contact for a specific type of problem. Then the important stuff can trickle in to Admin and the site developers.

Still wrong. Linux is the name of the kernel. It is misleading, the most OS using the Linux kernel, are GNU/Linux OS, altough there are others like Android, which also uses the Linux Kernel, About not giving a ****, I already mentioned Android, Chrome OS would be another example, Steam made his own OS, based on ? I do just need to chime in because you are one seriously dense ************. The Linux kernel is considerably more secure than the windows kernel, and has cleaner programming despite being written by literally thousands of people (open source contributions). It's faster, and the "practical" aspect is retarded to dispute. The cost of computers goes down about $100 when you remove Windows, eg; shipping with a Linux OS, most of which are free.

Now, if you actually cared to read for yourself, you would find out:
1: how to install any version of linux. Personally I prefer Ubuntu with GNOME desktop.
2: why whatever you're trying to do isn't working, and how to fix it. Linux has a rather large community, and most problems can be solved by a bit of searching on google. It's not very hard, really.
3: what benefits there are to Linux. Because I want to be nice, here's a link: www.pcworld.com/article/2013431/10-reasons-to-choose-ubuntu-12-10-over-windows-8.html
If you want to learn more about linux, search. There's plenty of information around, and it's easy to find if you search a little on Google.

actually 1 in 10 personal computers sold are mac (not including schools and many office enviroments, where the use of apple computers is quickly becoming the norm), and macs and apple products (including machines running iOS are used in 51% of US households, so to say that "no hacker gives a **** about that many devices" would be simply inaccurate in fact, they are much harder to infect because they can't run exe files. and the only way to install something is to run it as an application, or an add on to an application. both of which can be easily tracked, managed and deleted.

While only few exist, it is very much possible to write malware and viruses for UNIX based operating systems, like Linux and Mac. Mac has several viruses, while Linux has only ever had viruses made in "lab conditions" for the specific purpose of seeing whether or not it was possible.
But yeah, it is much easier to get rid of a virus on UNIX based systems, and significantly harder to make them effective at infecting systems.

The main reason is because most of the viruses that screw up your home machine are an unhappy coincidence to someone's actual goal of making a bunch of money. The only way hackers can make money is by getting information, and the most valuable information in the world is likely to be stored on Windows machines. It's more profitable to make viruses for windows than for Linux or OSX.

there's suspicious, and then there's outright telling you a link is a virus

Like Admin cares what we go through if it makes him a nickel.

he should care. honestly, if turning on adblock is what it takes to protect my 800$ computer from malware that admin lets on the site, then **** it. im not risking my computer just so admin can get some ad revenue off me.

Ya'll need a decent antivirus. Also all these people going "hurr this is why I use adblock" - the reason we have to put up with shady ads is because of self-centered people like you in the first place.

>Self-centered because we don't want to be spammed with ads

Dat logic.

Sites need ads to sustain themselves. While I do agree this sort of **** isn't acceptable, I'm pointing out that the reason this happened is because people weren't prepared to suffer mild irritation in the past and now that the inevitable has happened site accepting any and all advertising revenue it can get, even from shady ones are acting like they have some kind of moral high ground. I am ready for your rage.

Oh damn, you replied with an actual concise argument without being an insult-slinging faggot. I respect you for that.

I've been away for a while so I'm not even entirely sure what's happening with the ads, just that a lot of people are bitching about viruses.

I will admit that thumbnail was pretty clever. Unless I'm just dense I'm assuming that it's irony.
A bunch of autists decided it'd be funny to spam porn/gore all over the place back when our mod team wasn't as grossly incandescent as it is now. As a result reputable advertisers like google adsense withdrew their ads from funnyjunk. Fast-forward a bit and the site's in financial trouble because the same number of ad views is generating less income since admin was forced to accept ******** ads that pay less. Then we finally hit rock-bottom and this **** happens and folks who indiscriminately use adblock because **** everyone except me start trying gargle 'I told you so'.
Hopefully you can now better understand my rustled condition.

Grossly incandescent. Perfect.

Seriously though, ******* Internet. I didn't realize so much **** had happened since I'd been without it.

Well seeing as I donated like £30 I think I have every right to use ad block...

Well unless there's some act that gets passed banning any software from blocking ads (or tampering with the website's layout, which is basically what these ad blockers are doing), there's nothing webmasters can do about it.

I've seen people on Youtube (namely Kipkay) who has had to start getting sponsors and directly editing the ad into the middle of the video, just to get revenue. It's the only way to make substantial money from ads now, and it's a good counteraction because it's virtually impossible to make a program that detects an ad edited onto the video itself and chop it out.

Some websites make the background of their website an ad, which seems to bypass ad blockers, probably because it's not coming from an ad agency's URL. I saw this done on the Vue Cinemas site not long back.

I have no problem with adblockers, it's the people that use them then try to justify doing so by citing events they caused.

Agreed. I have had to enable my adblock for this site again because that is a virus.
