Then again, immigration is still important in the sense of humanitarian aid. Not to help with those who're poor - I do agree that the best way to help those who are unbearably poor is by sending economic aid to their nations, to build up infrastructure and an economy - but to help those who cannot live in their homelands anymore. People who're driven away by war, who are in danger of death or severe physical harm because of their religion, ethnicity, sexuality, political beliefs, sometimes just their gender. Those who have to fear arrest, murder, torture, rape, bodily mutiliation, or a combination of the above - or those who fear the same thing for their children or other close relatives. That's people who request asylum.

Then, there's people who immigrate for other reasons. People who want to study. To work. People who are getting married, children who get adopted. Not to forget that people are emmigrating as well, for similar reasons. Some immigrate into another nation because they just want to live there; because they think that the nation is beautiful. Sometimes, those people are more patriotic towards their new homenation than some of the citizens.

Immigration isn't as simple as 'People who are poor want here for our money and jobs'. It's a bigger issue. Simplifying like this doesn't help at all - to understand the situation and find working solutions, we gotta be a bit more open and understanding.
