I hate when people say that items are not the true way of playing. In the first game you had to unlock the item switcher to disable them. By default, every game has them activated.
Well, competitively, it isn't a true way of playing, nor is it the way to play if you and a friend are fighting to see who's better because having items on is super RNG based. Yeah, you can say that luck should play a part in a fight, and it does, but having items on makes it much more apparent and doesn't really determine who's better.
if you don't care about who's better, by all means put items on.
The way I see it, winning a match with items would take more skill. Because you have to use them well, and work around them when they're used against you.
Not all items take skill to use, and It's still RNG where the item spawns, meaning it could favor one player out of pure dumb luck over and over. You can argue that it takes more skill to defeat someone who is using items, but it isn't a fair fight, and that's the main issue.
I can't exactly outskill my friend if all that spawns near me is a fan and he gets pokeballs with only legendaries. He hasn't outskilled me if I broke his shield and am charging an Fsmash only to have a bomb spawn on me.
to be honest i agree with you. I only like melee nowadays for nostalgic reasons... also to play sudden death mode with tiny invisible on hyrule temple....
The only reason Melee is relevant, and I am confident when I say this, is because some stupid little bug, glitch, whatever the **** you want to call it, wasn't carried over to the new games.
Do you honestly think Melee would still be played if we had spooky sliding and fun cancelling? (Wavedashing and l-cancelling for those not tech-savvy).
i never even knew about these techniques and Ive always thought melee was better than brawl, never played ssb4 though. Im more of a mortal kombat/street fighter man and all the characters in brawl feel extremely floaty, like there's no weight behind anything you do, it just doesn't feel the same to me. Also there no tripping ******** and i hate the jumping on peoples heads thing but obviously that pretty low priority. I just cant stand tripping, i mean really? Trained fighters are going to trip? You have to admit that its a pretty big deal, it just stops the flow of a game entirely.
Tripping was an absolute cancer probably designed to prevent people from dash dancing, which is kinda dumb because ssb is big part mindgames.
I don't mind the removal of wavedashing and L-cancelling, especially wavedashing because my friends would wavedash for the entire lenght of the match, sure it can be punished, but it's not fun to play against.
its not my favorite smash because the only people who still play it have been playing it since it came out and i have no chance. to me its way less fun than smash 4. thats what i look for in smash, fun, not using crazy techniques and hours and hours of practice so its barely a game anymore
melee was the best smash until you go to a casual tournament at a gamestop release and realize how cringy the fanbase is and how much of a broken mess of a game it is.
its a game, its fun with friends, it has a higher skill cap than the other smash games. It has "broken" mechanics that actually make the game harder to learn but with more payoff and also make the game a whole lot better in my opinion.
It's called "Brawl" for a reason. Airdodging out of hitstun, floaty physics, tripping, and the game's "imbalance" are only bad in 1 on 1. They vastly improve 4 player free for alls - especially timed score matches - in ways that people with no friends just can't comprehend.
I have nothing against Smash, the fandom seems okay so far. But replacing characters in a popular joke with Smash characters is the same as "ponifying" something. Come up with something original instead of shoehorning these guys into popular memes.
I wouldn't thrive in any competitive scene because it bores me to death. No items I can handle (though I prefer having at least a few on), but limiting myself to "high tier" characters on flat maps only? Lame. Might as well go back to Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat if I wanna play like that.
**itskennyandjosh used "*roll picture*"** **itskennyandjosh rolled image** I just played the game and enjoyed it as like a fun fighting game should be enjoyed and you ***** turned it into some rage enducing thing and now you have to either be the best at the game or you're a noob who shouldn't play, items are fun and look who doesn't like fun
One little problem with that, i think the keyword here is friends nahh just kitten but none of my friends play those games, they're the "oh we don't play cartoony kid games" type, and its boring on computer
