Haha lets buy their product because we are angry at them. The perfect plan
User avatar #27 to #3 - stankape (11/10/2015) [-]
maybe it was more to just protest the idea of getting rid of the red cups, as opposed to protesting starbucks. that was my first take on it, anyway.
User avatar #18 to #3 - Ruspanic (11/10/2015) [-]
But what if that was Starbucks' plan all along? Brilliant.

man people never learn the concept that all publicity is good publicity do they?
#29 to #1 - anon (11/10/2015) [-]
What about when that university Penn State or Pittsburgh or something had a coach who was found to have molested multiple children?
User avatar #46 to #29 - gittons ONLINE (11/10/2015) [-]
well the coach is now fired so the school is safer and more people know about it.
not the best no but my point is that if you hate or love something you give it equal power, only
ignoring will kill it.
one reason why all those things you hate so much are everywhere.
#4 - adriaan (11/09/2015) [-]
why are people angry at starbucks
User avatar #5 to #4 - Mr Ronok (11/09/2015) [-]
i would assume its because they wont say merry christmas because it might offend the immigrants who just complain about everything anyways
#10 to #5 - sacrilegious (11/10/2015) [-]
or it's because they recognize that Christianity isn't the default state.

Starbucks cups are just red this year. Instead of having snowflakes and ornaments and snowmen on them. Apparently Christmas has a monopoly on snow, it being the primary and central concept of the Christian religion. Sucks. Living in AZ, I apparently can't celebrate Christmas properly.
User avatar #14 - nymikemet (11/10/2015) [-]
Are people really getting offended over Cups?
Seriously?

Get used to that, we live in the secular age now...
User avatar #24 to #23 - Garude ONLINE (11/10/2015) [-]
Oh I don't mind that. I'm secular myself. i never go to church and my favorite bands are considered satanic to the normie christians. they'd probably throw holy water at me trying to get the bad juju out. what im saying is i literally don't get whats going on here to offend christian faith and what they did exactly as a retort.
#31 to #24 - anon (11/10/2015) [-]
I could be wrong. Christianity might offends people because it opposes the nihilist/egoism of purpose and alot of which the bible states. and it's a community-related believe. With us living in a secular society this can really piss people off.
But, why then are you a Christian?
Hmmm... you might like this band soundcloud.com/redmusiconline

yeah, bro. love release the panic. event the really extended music video.
I was raised christian, sure. but as i got older and out of from my grandmothers hold over me about doing anything will send me to hell, I decided to tell myself that god exists yes.
The only thing is I doubt he'd be mad at me for listening to metal.
then of course all the rules made me wonder if it wasn't written by god but some pissed off guy who hated things. so yes I believe in god, but not the version they try to show. and this is my personal favorite depiction of what i believe god is like. and hope im right.

from my understanding, the anger among "christians" isn't just that the cups don't portray anything christmasy, but that the employees aren't allowed to say merry christmas at all. so they're going to starbucks and giving their names as "merry christmas", so that the workers there have to say merry christmas
User avatar #37 to #35 - therealfell (11/10/2015) [-]
that's not childish at all
User avatar #38 to #37 - landartheconqueror (11/10/2015) [-]
you can think of it as a freedom of speech kind of thing. regardless of their beliefs, workers in customer service can't wish anyone a merry christmas, so as to not "take a religious stance" while on work, or "offend anyone" who doesn't celebrate christmas, so these people are fighting back against that censorship by making the workers say merry christmas, possibly in their mind "freeing the workers" because, secretly, everyone wants to be able to say merry christmas.
User avatar #39 to #38 - landartheconqueror (11/10/2015) [-]
alternatively, it could also be the typical "keep Christ in Christmas" thing, but i don't see Jesus anywhere in these posts
User avatar #40 to #35 - domogle (11/10/2015) [-]
I work at Starbucks and I say merry Christmas, happy thanksgiving, Jewish stuff. Nobody has ever complained.
User avatar #41 to #40 - landartheconqueror (11/10/2015) [-]
which is why it's absurd that customer service workers aren't allowed to say festive-specific greetings to customers. Working at a theater for a number of years, i wasn't allowed to say merry christmas or anything. i did anyway, and i'd be disciplined for it

"Oh no this coffee shop is going to destroy the most celebrated holiday in the country by not writing words on their cups!"
User avatar #22 - TheBobby (11/10/2015) [-]
I hate Jews as much as the next guy, but I do think it's kinda rude to say Merry Christmas to everyone. Yeah, the majority of the US celebrates Christmas but not everyone. That's like if I were to say that because the majority of America is white it's ok to say "I hate black people" to everyone that comes through my line.
User avatar #26 to #22 - donatelo (11/10/2015) [-]
the cups never had 'merry christmas' on them to begin with...likewise, if it did, then whoever has a real problem with them dont have to buy them in the first place.
#33 to #22 - iamrexraptor (11/10/2015) [-]
"Hey man, you celebrate that holiday that celebrates the idea of the birth of christ and has been acknowledged by the religious as such and is meant to be a time of joy and happiness?" "Yeah dude, nice to meet another jew hater too."

like wtf does saying merry christmas have to do with hating jews, or black people for that matter.
User avatar #47 to #33 - TheBobby (11/10/2015) [-]
It has nothing to do with hating Jews or black people. I said that I hate them, not people who say Merry Christmas, and I said that it's "like" if someone were to say that to black people.

This is a "send a message" generation. Social Justice For All, The People Have Spoken, Mass Social Media, beyond Mass Communications. Every dip **** there is can get their 15 minutes of fame and thier opinions on a Bull Horn where all the neighbors can here it.
User avatar #43 - istoleyoursoxs (11/10/2015) [-]
Someone got mad at me at work (Best Buy) because I said literally "Enjoy your holidays guys!" as I do with every customer during the holiday season and long story short (long story here --> "What do you mean Happy Holiday's it's Christmas" "Of course it is! I just don't want to assume anyone's opinions and religions and no one gets hurt feelings" they guy then turns around and stops walking away to then confront me and say that this is CANADA and we celebrate CHRISTMAS to which I just told him that I am Jewish and don't celebrate christmas so he then storms over to the manager as his wife is trying to calm him down and starts ranting to him. The manager is Muslim however so he tells him to get the **** out of our store if he is going to keep bashing everyones religion. The guys screams and swears as he leaves and the manager continues to do the same. All because this guy got offended that I was trying to treat people with respect, equally He flipped and the manager told him to get the **** out.

I just don't see the point of getting upset because companies and the like are trying to keep a equal environment. I have a few christian friends that got really mad because we are having a holiday party and not a christmas party and they are literally EXACTLY THE SAME just the absence of a christmas tree. HALF of our staff have roots in the Middle East.

I used to live in Singapore and there you don't get western holidays like Easter off unless you book it as a religious holiday and people don't take it as seriously and you have to celebrate other holidays of other religions that you're not part of and it's just awkward.

tl;dr People are sensitive
User avatar #42 - slapchoppin (11/10/2015) [-]
thats not even necessarily a Christian thing

i know plenty of atheists who ******* love christmas
User avatar #44 to #42 - istoleyoursoxs (11/10/2015) [-]
Few people REALLY celebrate Christmas because of Christ. Its very much a commercial thing now and really drives the economy. And theres nothing wrong with that people can celebrate any way they want.
#45 to #44 - anon (11/10/2015) [-]
The ironic thing about it; that Jesus was probably born on October of 4th A.D.
So, the parable of the prince is way over their heads.

#20 - tagme (11/10/2015) [-]
Okay, what? Why are Christians outraged by this design change? The old cup designs had snowmen, reindeer, and ornaments. Stuff like that. Sure, those are Christmas designs, but still, it's not like all the cups had a picture of the nativity scene on them and they removed that. The old designs, if anything, are even more anti-"Keeping the 'Christ' in 'Christmas'", a concept that's already stupid for reasons if you don't know, you should search for on Google. If anything, people should be happy, because those symbols were associated with only Christmas, and lots of people don't celebrate Christmas.

"Oh no this coffee shop is going to destroy the most celebrated holiday in the country by not making their cups the right colors!"

Not really a less retarded thing to protest.
