After going on an anime spree, I went down to my local pool about last summer. Saw some little girls in a swimsuit. Now, this is an average run the mill sight everybody has seen and doesn't think twice about it. I didn't even care up until that point. But, I had a thought run across my head that was pretty sexual in nature. Then the morality kicked in and said "Yo, the **** dude." And it got me thinking about the negative effects of lolicon related media. If it got me thinking like that for a split second, it makes me wonder what it would do to lets say a kid venturing out on the internet who is pretty open to new stuff. It might turn into a fetish to them, or perhaps even ingrain the idea in their head that it might be okay in some odd way to sexualize young girls. And as the days go by, I see more lolicon related tropes in anime, sexualization of young girls in anime/manga, and even just more lolicon related porn. And while yes it's fictional, the idea itself is pretty toxic. I remember seeing a greentext here about a week or two ago about an anon who stole a pair of panties from his adopted cousins? room and masturbated with it. He referred to her as an "asian loli." And I think that says for itself what kind of media he frequents.

Not saying it needs to be forbidden, but I will probably say it's something that needs to be kept in check. Not like NSA monitoring, but just something to be viewed responsibly by the consumer. If its someone of weak mind it can blur the lines between fiction and reality since its driven off of sexual desire. But, someone made a good point to me, "You could say the same thing about video games." Which is true and there's just no basis for it, only speculation.

Yeah. I actually have played it now and my only thought is: it's good.

But honestly, so much of the game is just making fun of games in general and for me that is not why I sit down and play a game. It had some memorable characters and I like the idea of permadeath but I think it is with Undertale as many other good games that come out in a dry period: It gets a lot of extra praise because most other games released around it was either huge disappointments or just straight up bad.

I remember around the time Limbo and Braid was released, everybody went crazy for those, especially Braid, I bought both games after all the buzz had died down, sat down and played them and thanks to all hype my expectations where soaring, and I was somewhat disappointed.

Even though Limbo, Braid and Undertale where all good games I was let down because of expectations, maybe I also felt like I had seen most of the things that fans pressed as "new" and "revolutionary" but mostly all the hype made the experience with those games a little underwhelming even though these games have very, very few flaws.

One of my favorite games in recent memory is Drakengard 3, I bought it only because I had not heard anything about it (and the art style on the cover was compelling). It has so many flaws yet I liked it so much simply because I had no expectations what so ever.

TL;DR Expectations have dampened my experience with good indie games before and it did happen again with Undertale.

Funnyjunk represents a very small portion of the fan base, alot of fans stick mainly to art threads or sub reddits, you shouldn't let people on FJ make you not want to play a great game, Total Biscuit nominated it 3 times in his 2015 game awards, and it won 1 category as well, being game that surprised him the most, it also won yahtzee's #1 game of 2015, as well as numerous awards from other critics. It's a game where the outer shell might not seem like that of a game of the year but as you play it really sucks you in. It has loveable characters, an orgasmic soundtrack, some solid gameplay, and some incredible humor. Undertale is very story driven and knows how to play your emotions well, its the first game where i truly felt like an asshole for going down the evil route. And while FJ will talk the fanbase down and claim the whole thing is cancer, it actually has some really solid fan work, alot of it just isn't posted here, examples: Undertale RED, fan made undertale game, was really good and alot of fun, AU's Swaptale, Storyshift, all good AU's, the only one i would say is really bad is probably Underfell. Theres good comics too such as Dreemur Reborn, or Sans Timeline Journal, and it has alot of good independant work such as this SPOILERS: imgur.com/a/uWXiS
TL;DR Undertale is a game that might not look impressive on the outside but once you actually play it is really fantastic and after you play it i guarantee that you'll find content posted and the fan base as a whole alot more enjoyable.

Well, it won 3 nominations from Total Biscuit, winning 1 category, won Yahtzee's best game of 2015, and won multiple other awards, its in mine and many others top 5 best games ever, my review of the game:
In a nutshell its a JRPG that has pixel art style graphics, the plot is that you fell down a hole into an area called the Underground, a place sealed off by a barrier placed by the human over a millenium ago, the barrier was to trap all the monsters in the underground, you meet friends and foes, you can choose to kill everyone in your way, or spare them showing not all humans are bad. Every boss enemy/enemy in the game can be befriended or killed, and it has multiple endings, its a very story driven game and knows how to play your emotions pretty well, comedy, feels, etc. My personal stats:
9/10 music, 1 of my favorite soundtracks of any game, they're all very remixable too, i've seen the same song turned into rock, classical, and techno. some examples: Undertale OST - Megalovania Extended Undertale OST - Death By Glamour Extended Undertale OST - Hopes And Dreams (Intro) & Save The World Extended
7.5/10 gameplay, You mainly dodge your enemies bullets, i would describe it as kind of a bullet hell, you have options to Fight, Act, aka do something with an enemy like talk, hug, threaten etc., Item, you can equip different items in your armor and weapons slots, as well as use different healing items, then theres Mercy, you can spare a monster, which means you wont fight them, and if you make them like you through act commands, then it will turn yellow, meaning you can spare them, you can also flee from a fight. I give it a 7.5/10 because the way you hit them is fairly linear, but the dodging is pretty good, no 2 enemies are the same so you always fight a new attack, and bosses do special things, like 1 of the bosses turns you blue so you have gravity and need to use that to dodge, another turns you green so you have to block their attacks and cant move to dodge.
8/10 story Alot of twists in the game that are easy to spoil, but if you dont see them coming are really fantastic, the story will seem linear at the start, but as you go through the game you'll realize its alot more complicated than meets the eye.
Graphics, hard to say, theyre mainly pixel art, idk how to describe other than retro feeling
Characters, 8.5/10 I really liked the characters in this game, they had such strong and loveable personalities, they're also pretty funny, better than about 75% of the games out there.
Overall i would say Undertale is 1 of my favorite games and it definitely surpassed all of my expectations, I don't even like JRPG games and i loved it. It also has some amazing fan art and AU's, check out swaptale, sans time line journal, or just browse the top of r/undertale in general, they all have great content.
