The United Kingdom is only united in the sense that the Irish hate the English, the Welsh hate the English, the Scottish hate the English, and the English hate everybody else including most of the English.

I mean, can you really blame the Irish after what the Brits did to them in the 70's? That was pretty ****** up.

Sort of right. The silly thing is that nowadays everybody is ******* interbred. Unless you live in the farthest reaches of remote Scotland then chances are you have English heritage as well. Same with Wales. Republic of Ireland is a little different but still, the English, Scots, Welsh and Normans all occupied Ireland at varying times over the last millenia. I'm English but I live on the border of Wales in an area called the Welsh Marches, I consider myself English but chances are a good portion of my genetic and cultural ancestry is Welsh. Why would I bear negative stigma towards my ancestors? Its a silly state of affairs and most people living on or within 100 miles of a territorial border are in the same boat as me.

trust an English man to try and say you probably have English heritage if you live in remote Scotland. the reason you hate the scots is because you wish you were them and they were you.

Weirdly, my family has been of Welsh heritage for centuries and I never saw any other nationalities in my family tree.

Depends on whereabouts in Wales you live but bear in mind that most surnames only originated in the mid to late Medieval Period. That leaves around 11,000 years of history where the terms Welsh, Scottish, English and Irish didn't exist and identity/ethnicity was understood on a tribal basis in Britain. The old myth that the English are a different race to the rest of Britain has been laughed at in academia for about 30 years now, there was not English genocide or anything like that, it was just a few Germanic Warriors replacing the old Celtic ruling elite. The lower levels of society for the most part probably stayed the same and learned the Anglo-Saxon language over time.

OK let's sort this out right now.
The English don't hate the Irish, the Scots, or the Welsh. None of them. They all hate us, but to be honest, England doesn't care. England has taken the high road. All the other kingdoms of the UK spend valuable time, words and rage hating on England, whereas England has just decided to ignore it all. That's it. There's no hatred towards the rest of the UK from England, just a sort of agonising nonchalance that hopefully infuriates everyone else even more.

TL;DR England doesn't hate anyone, we just bathe in the glorious hatred of others.

Not sure why you've been thumbed down so much?

I agree with your statement completely. I have been nothing but friendly and approachable when meeting fellow British people from Scotland, Wales or anybody from Ireland, however the most of the time it has been frequently thrown back in my face with hatred.

I understand that the people from these places still feel the pain of previous historical grievances and I am sorry for that. However I do not think it fair to blame the current English people today who did not cause any grievance.

I feel like I'm hated for being from the same land as my fellow countrymen, just because I was born in a part of it called England and others were born in a part of it called Scotland or Wales.

What have I (as someone from England) ever done to offend a Scottish, Welsh or Irish person? Heck my Grandad is a full-blooded Welshman but it stands for nothing when I'm being put down as some "oppresive Englishman"

as a scot that lives in England I can tell you this is bull. English hate everyone that isn't them and not many people are English anymore btw hahahaha

If I spent between six and seven hundred years oppressing several neighbouring countries, I'd find it pretty easy to take the high road too.

We (scots) hate the english because they have some sort of higher self importance. You dont see yourselves as our equals, you just see us as a fat little oil, culture and whisky exports rich country that you can sap do fund your Westminster fatcats.

2014 Scotland will be free once again.

wow what a ******* huge swooping generalization. I live on the border county and have no problem with absolutely anyone. Judge people on the content of their character not on their nationalities which is, hypocrtically, what you just did

Damn the English! They ruined England!
