That's not how the saving works. You're missing it entirely.
Trade in the ps3, save $100 and buy a xbone for $400
Buy the ps4, and you save your ps3.
The xbone is now compared to ps3+full price vs ps4 full price.
Now if they wanted to be correct, it would say save your ps3 and buy a ps4. You're not saving money buying a ps4 against this ad, you're saving the ps3.

Well if you want to put monetary value into it, buying a refurbished PS3 at gamestop would be roughly 200 dollars.

Give it the value that Microsoft gives it, and its value is 100 dollars.

You may not be able to flat out resell your PS3 to someone for $100, but that's just business. It's value is technically about 200 bucks.

So simply by keeping your PS3, and buying a PS4, you're not only buying a cheaper console, but you're saving a 200 dollar one.

So your point is still not there at all.

So you have a 400 dollar console, and a 200 dollar console.

$600 total for the price of 400.

Sell your PS3 for 100 dollars, effectively losing $100, which evens out. And you still end up paying $500 for the XBone, while losing your PS3.

Buying the ps4 is $100, buying the Xbox One is $500, by not buying the more expensive console you are saving $100, if you want to then say but with the deal they are effectively the same price, that is still wrong because by losing the ps3 which is probably worth $100 if not a little bit more tbh, is effectively raising the cost of the xbox by the amount lost. That means that you're probably getting even less value than before and that means you are saving at least $100.

your ps3 is worth money though... if you trade it in for an xbox, you are giving up $400 and a ps3. The word "save" in the ps4 ad is in reference to the xbox ad. If you are deciding whether to buy the xbone or ps4 then the ps4 is $100 dollars cheaper than the sticker price of the xbone. You arent saving $100 by trading in a ps3 for an xbone, you are paying $400 cash and your ps3, which has value. If you were actually "saving" $100 dollars with the same scrutiny that you are examining the ps4 ad, then the xbone would have to be $400 without trading in the ps3 to hold up to the same standard. You could easily make the console $1000 dollars and say you could save $600 by making it the same price as the ps4. The premise is that you have a ps3 or the xbone deal is not applicable, so the overall decision you have to make is $400 + ps3 = xbone, or $400 = ps4 + ps3, this is the only relevant comparison and any simplification of this is merely hiding part of the truth to fool the buyer.

I kind of see your point, but you'd still be a PS3 down if you decided to trade it in for a measly $100. I would like to point out that if you sold your Xbox One Kinect ($80 on eBay easily) the difference between the two consoles would be only $20 or so, so I have no idea why all the PS fanboys are going "hurrrrrr $100 cheaper", especially when the PS3 was also $100 more expensive when it came out while offering nothing more features compared to the Xbox 360.

The PS3 has unique architecture with the cell processor, it has free online play and it works as a Blu-Ray player which cost a small fortune at the time- some people bought them just for that. Where as the 360 is essentially just a gimped PC. When it comes to hardware alone the PS3 was much better value.

Yes, the PS3 included what was a low-end Bluray player (I've used it and watching films is "choppy" with the fps simply not being up to scratch), but is it not the PS fanboys that are now saying that the PS4 is "for the gamers" and all other features are irrelevant. Tbh certain PS fanboys have to be the most hypocritical people I've ever met.

Even a low end player would have cost over $100 at the time, and being made of typical PC parts the XBox should have been the cheapest regardless.
Also: if you add the cost of online play over a few years the Xbox is a lot more expensive.

Both fangroups contain idiots, but maybe it isn't the same people making both arguments. Fact is the PS4 has better graphics(more powerful processor, faster RAM, and it plays more games in 1080P) and it's cheaper, the XBone has a couple of cameras (which bafflingly add $100 to the value somehow) and it has voice recognition (like almost every modern mobile phone and the google search engine which is free to use on just about everything.)

If you watch videos that demonstrate teh capabilities of the new Kinect you'll easily see why it adds $100 to the cost of the Xbox One, and this is the same price as the old Kinect which is pretty bad. How developers choose to utilise this new technology remains to be seen though and it's really early to tell, but it seems miles better than any new technology Sony have introduced to improve the gaming experience. Also even though the PS4 may be more powerful I think its been clear for a long time that games are tailored to the weaker console so the difference between the displays will be pretty much identical even though the Xbox One capabilities are slightly lower. The only reason that PS4 currently has more 1080p games is simply because developers had trouble using the new tools to get their games ready for the console launches, so in the long run this will be completely irrelevant. Finally you bring up another point of hypocrisy of fanboys - that you now have to pay for online play on the PS4. They've been ripping Xbox fanboys apart for years on this point yet when it comes their turn to pay they don't even say a word in opposition.

Sony did introduce the eyetoy, which died off because it's a gimmick that's really fun at first but soon wears out. Much like Kinect on the Xbox (who obviously expanded on Sony's idea.) People will love seeing their faces in games but they'll most likely get bored of it after a short while. New How long did people love playing with the Wii before it got tossed into a cupboard to collect dust?

Assassins Creed 4, Battlefield 4 and COD Ghosts all display at full HD on PS4 and 720P on Xbone:
uk.ign.com/wikis/xbox-one/PS4_vs._Xbox_One_Native_Resolutions_and_Framerates
So clearly they aren't ''tailored to the weaker console'' are they?
I can't make sense of what you're saying about developers, but if they're making it run better on the PS4 obviously Microsoft is doing something wrong there.

PS+ is still cheaper than XBL and according to Kotaku it's actually better:

When a new console comes out developers need to use new tools to make the games work, something which they hadn't properly grasped with the release games you specified. The only thing Microsoft have done wrong is not made their tools as easy to use as Sony had with the PS4, but you can see that all games released from now on will be 1080p on both consoles.

That's kind of what I've been (unsuccessfully) trying to explain. People who say that the PS4 is straight up better hardware wise are just being ignorant of the Xbox One's capabilities. Honestly i think there are enough games (considering both consoles launched 2 months ago). I don't know what people expect, sure you're spoiled by the output of the last years, but there are like 25-30 games for ps4 right now.

I'm not saying that waiting is a bad idea (hardware failures, possible price drop, bundles etc.) but saying there are not enough games is just not correct. There hasn't been a launch (window) in history with more games, be it AAA-titles or indies.

It's not an option for me since im in a unique situation. I cant afford a good laptop and I literally dont have a place in my house to put a decent desktop. This makes consoles my only option, which is terrible.

If you go PC, you're going with Microsoft, since most games HAVE to be on windows.

Microsoft, EA, and Activision have a monopoly on digital entertainment. This must be remedied.

Microsoft has been dealing with digital entertainment (games) really well so far, EA and activision i dont really play apart from occasional Battlefield. Until a better OS comes out microsoft will remain on top for pc if you dont like it go make your own os or something

They've been dealing with it well? Did you miss out on how they were trying to get away with logging your activity with the Feds every 24 hours?

And what exactly would constitute a Gaming OS? Even then, what's there to stop Microsoft from forcing you to sell it, buying developers' loyalties, downplaying your product, or even carrying out cyber-attacks?

MS is a multi-billion dollar company, they can get away with a lot of backhanded ****...

what quality? there is nothing to make me want a ps3 lol. I game to make the people i play against want to kill themselves and rage, this is entertainment. I dont care at all for a fully scripted movie game full of QTE's that will be beaten in a single sitting and never touched again.
