It's a great 2-d fighter with an interesting way of balancing the game. Each character has a specialty and secondary uses. And each character is wildly different than the others. In both playstyle and in-game personality. They've got a surprisingly well thought out story that intertwines to tie together characters and makes room for more to come, which are all free for the first few weeks of release as dlc. 8/10 would recommend

No twisting
I am accurately representing the majority of pre-purchase situations i.e It's not that great, you aren't infact gifted with a ******** of rewards you get some mediocre "extras" that weren't really exclusive, just pay-locked

Except you'd be lied to
What you get is not as good as what you're given to believe and what's hyped up
It's often not even a full product, i.e you'd get only most of the movie, or maybe even half

This isn't changing the argument, this is revealing the unpleasant truth after you've already agreed
This is what pre-purchasing is like
User avatar #111 to #109 - sugoi (02/07/2015) [-]
Not really, that sounds like early access which is pretty different from pre-purchasing.
I mean yeah you got situations like Alien whatitsname colonial marines or something but that **** isn't common.

You're making things worse than it is, there are some good companies out there where pre-purchasing is worth it, like I said with CoD. It's not all **** and to say definitively that

"This is what pre-purchasing is like"

Is pretty close minded of you.
User avatar #112 to #111 - captainprincess ONLINE (02/07/2015) [-]
No it isn't
They are essentially one and the same, hence why so many people now have a problem with it

used to be they were different things, not anymore.
User avatar #117 to #112 - sugoi (02/07/2015) [-]
They are completely different things and your refusal to realize or even consider the possibility is baffling to me.

Early access let's you play the game in an unfinished state, you are informed from the get-go that this game is not finished and has missing features. This is for people that want to get in first or give feedback to the devs via the forums and contribute to development. This is essentially paying to be a beta tester but with no obligation to feedback.

Pre-purchase or Pre-order means you are paying for a complete game before it's release that. Sometimes this is done to make sure you will receive a copy of the game on launch date as there isn't always enough physical copies. Games that are distributed online however don't have the quantity issue so the publishers n devs try to make up for that by giving you exclusive bonus content or allowing you to play the game earlier than others the CoD example again. .

They're pretty different.
User avatar #118 to #117 - captainprincess ONLINE (02/07/2015) [-]
be baffled then
because they're not, they're round about the same thing now
User avatar #120 to #118 - sugoi (02/07/2015) [-]
I have very clearly explained their differences, how are you still not getting this?

Do you have some examples to show how early access and pre-order are the same? The only thing I can think of that you described earlier is the Alien game fiasco and even then it was nothing like early access considering you got bonus items and the devs were clearly finished with developing the game and would at most work on dlc.

Preorder now and get (exclusive item name here)!!
Do I need said item to beat the game?
Well... No... But--
Then why should I preorder?
Because then you get this thing!
Does it make the game easier to beat?
... Yes...
Is the data already on the disk?
... Yes.
So, you're content locking me if I don't preorder?
Well, that is a very negative way to look at it.
Yes, but, you're saying that if I don't pay NOW, when there is no data on whether your game is ***** or not, then I'll get less overall than when I do know if your game is ***** .
#142 to #29 - senorfrog (02/07/2015) [-]
If it is a true rarity, I might preorder. If it is just a regular thing and for same cost as a game I already want, then yeah preorder, comes with a physical item then hell yeah. But say it is just a cosmetic that they will sell or a special thing to beat the game, then nah. So right now I am preordered for MKX for Goro (missed the poster by a day). Last preorder was lego batman 3 and I got plastic man minifig which was awesome. But my biggest regret, Special edition destiny. Though if Phantom pain gets a cool preorder, will do that (but not a special cardboard box unless it is physical).

I never said it doesn't matter. I said is ******** content lock, because I didn't preorder.
Day 1 DLC is still absolutely idiotic, but, it isn't content lock. That's money grubbing.

>It's a good thing it makes the game easier.
No, it isn't a good thing. It's forcing people to pay before they know if they'll like what they're paying for, or lose said items forever.
A cosmetic change is whatever. Cosmetics don't change the playing field balance.
"Oh no! His gun preorder gun has +2 Shinyness! What shall I do? ... I know my preorder got me this +10 damage assault rifle!"
And that is what is idiotic about preordering.
User avatar #70 to #29 - severepwner ONLINE (02/07/2015) [-]
It's funny, it's a really ****** practice, but it never occurred to me it was a ****** practice until this last year.

Why? Because every pre order I got before had NEVER been disappointing, seriously never. I've always loved the extra **** I got from the games that I loved and thought were awesome. Assassin's Creed Unity is the only game in my life, I think, that I have preordered and was gravely disappointed.

But now that there's the risk that even games I've always trusted can now be **** all of the sudden, now I don't want to preorder ever again, and I can't get the extra **** they lock away so **** .
User avatar #88 to #29 - jedimage (02/07/2015) [-]
Batman Arkham City. All the preorders sold with 'exclusive' costumes and each were different compared to the places you bought them from.
There were so many that you honestly felt you were missing out on stuff yet nobody brought that up. In the PS2 days, all those costumes would have been some secret unlockables.

That was the time I really swore off any preorders. Feels good that I've never preordered any game

The only game I have pre-ordered in the last couple years is The Witcher III. CD Projekt RED seems to be one of the few companies that releases games when they are finished. In fact, for the first two Witcher games they released the DLC for free and even removed DRM from the second game which improved sales of the game.
User avatar #71 to #56 - severepwner ONLINE (02/07/2015) [-]
I won't judge your decision, because I understand your trust, and I'm thinking about pre ordering GTA V myself, so hypocrites.

Hope it works out for you, and my hardcore Witcher fan friend.
User avatar #72 to #71 - fiveblackmen (02/07/2015) [-]
I used to pre-order all the time but there just haven't been many games worth playing the last few years so my number of pre-orders have dropped significantly. The only reason I pre-ordered The Witcher III is because it is made by a company that has shown itself to be more about making a quality product than a ton of money and it has paid off so why would they change how they do things. Both off the previous games in the series have been critical and financial successes and allowed them to start GOG.com which sells DRM free games, most of them older games that normally wouldn't play on Windows 7 and 8 systems so they built emulators into the game to make them work.

I can see the appeal of GTA, although I have lost interest in the genre. Rockstar tends to make pretty good games.

I think the boycott is more for the companies like EA and Ubisoft that like to release games, that should still be in the early beta testing phase of development, and charge people large amounts of money to test their crappy product. On top of this, they tend to talk about a lot of features early in development that aren't actually released with the game and in fact need to be purchased separately as DLC. I think we need to not just boycott pre-orders but these companies as a whole.
#87 to #56 - thechosentroll (02/07/2015) [-]

Game Theory: Flappy Bird, PewDiePie, and Pasta Sauce
I remember a while back on frontpage here everyone was talking about Nintendo has a new youtube policy, but lets players would have to give some of their ad revenue to Nintendo as well as be on Nintendo's channel. Kind of a dick move but I think it's a great compromise considering less censorship, and it may just be temporary because lets players sell games, so if this gets Nintendo more sales, they may just let up a little on this new policy. Nintendo didn't like how people leaked their games or they (like a few companies still) feel like youtube is still the equivalent to piracy, but I think they're realizing that mistake.

I probably would've gotten the game day one. Hell, I would've preordered. I'm a sucker for AC games, even after the ********** on the franchise that was Unity. I saw that the console games were currently going for thirty, saw Rogue go up on the store and thought, "Hey, I could see myself playing that."

Then, I saw the price. The price of a last-gen reskin of a previous Assassin's Creed game. The price of a game that came out months ago on consoles, and should've been on PC already. The price of a game that will most likely suffer from crippling bugs at launch, and go through a lengthy and ultimately futile patching process that will fix very little. They want 50 dollars. 50 dollars for a game that has, in no way shape or form, been improved or modified from the console release beyond what will clearly be the bare minimum of PC port normals.

**** you, Ubisoft. I'm done with your ******** .

After seeing so much poop in Unity, i highly doubt anyone will preorder a AC game again, in fact dont preorder any game, just wait for it to come out and then wait for someone to buy it so they can give a review.

that reminds me, I should check origin for the free games I get all the time

There's so many exceptions to the no pre-order rule that it's completely evident that this is another bandwagon that people are using to make it seem like they can make a difference in the game industry. Enjoy your games people and take them like they are. If you judge them all by an absolute standard, then you will eventually hate on exceptions to the rule based on narrow-minded misconceptions.

All these fags complaining about preordering...

While I have a backlog of unplayed games that I can engage in until the"new" games go for 90% off sales...

Guys, great games that came out 3+ years ago are going for under $10 with all DLC's included LOL. Just play those and then wait for the newer ones to go on sale in a year or so...

I agree with this, that being said I will always pre-order Bethesda games (fallout/elder scrolls)
