Watch the time, because the length of your nap is what mainly determines your energy upon waking. Comment #13 gives a good rule of thumb. Also, consider what you eat/drink during the day, and sleep debt if you have any.

except no because everyones body is different. you cant assume whats good for one person will be good for another.

In this case, you can generalize. If you're human, then sleep cycles average around 90 minutes. The specifics like "10 minutes = good quickie" I'm not entirely sure about, but these are just life-hack type rules of thumb. The interpretation is up to you.

Again, nap length is not the only factor, but it should be considered first. All the best.

except for the fact that not everyone can control when they fall asleep and wake up. you can lay in your bed for a second and then wake up next thursday. i for one know that alarms dont work on everyone.

Well, if you're a deep sleeper and your body just doesn't like to cooperate (even with a loud and annoying alarm), then yeah it would not be very useful. In that case, you fall into a small minority and I'm sorry for wasting your time.

That's why it's a rule of thumb, you try it out and adjust to what suits you. It's also pretty fair to assume what works for most will work for you.

pro tip: make sure you nap in 30 minutes or less. that way you will never enter deep sleep and you will wake up feeling more energized

Sleep cycles last 1:30, so try to aim for multiples of 90 minutes when sleeping.
