Ever heard of Siren Blood Curse? It's set on Gunkanjima island I think. You'll probably get chased by creepy little asian girls who bleed from their eyes, as well as every other orifice on their body.

If I hadn't seen the locations on the list, I would assume it would have something to do with the initial population before abandonment. A city with a previous population of seven hundred thousand would be more abandoned at zero people than a village of two hundred at the population of zero?

I guess it has to do with how many people lived there before being abandoned.

I would think it's based on the area size. The larger the area + being totally abandoned = how abandoned it is. For example I'd say Craco is most certainly more abandoned than the empty house at the end of my street.

10. Obvious. No story needed, though the city, not the facility is opened for tours because of the drop or radioactivity.
9. I'm assuming you know what it is. As far as what it was used for or why it was abandoned, we don't know, but we think it's was a private retreat for their king at the time.
8. It was a coal mining facility in Japan, but in the 1960s, coal mines began to shut down around Japan and this one went with it. It was soon enough left competely abandoned.
7. Similar situation. It was a diamond mining location because someone found a few diamonds in 1908 but was abandoned after it was emptied.
6. Centralia, though I don't know why it was abandoned, it's not empty because apparently 10 people live there.
5. Craco was a place that had been there for quite a while compared to most of these, since it's a medieval town from about 540. In the 20th century, recurring earthquakes continued to damage the town until people found it unsuitable to live in and they left.
4. I've honestly never heard of the place and couldn't find anything concrete from Google. Something about trying to control irrigation from the Salton Sea for crops and they ****** up somewhere and this somehow ****** up their settlement to where they couldn't use it.
3. It was intended to be one of the biggest amusement parks in China, but it was abandoned because of financial costs and later destroyed because of the property bubble in China.
2. Humberstone and it's sister facility Santa Laura were used as salt extraction facilities but during the Great Depression, it stopped getting the funds it needed to stay open and was left. It's now considered to be a National Monument of Chile.

Centralia was abandoned because the ground underneath is literally on fire and won't stop for possibly another thousand years.

I can explain Centralia because I like like 40 minutes from it and been on that highway we call it graffiti highway many times. Basically a coal mine caught fire under the place and was never put out. Years later it's still burning under the ground. Pretty damn cool if you ask me. We skate on the road.

abandonment either is or isn't. there aren't varying degrees of abandonment.

"largest communities to be abandoned" could work. But this list doesn't cover that.
