Is it weird that I'd much, MUCH, rather GLADLY take on an Australian spider than have an encounter with one of those?

they are voracious carnivores and prolific detritivores but cause no harm to humans. Except, I believe, for those poor souls who are allergic.

not at all. This is a silverfish. I understand that apparently people mistakenly refer to house centipedes as silverfish but properly they are two very different critters. Lots of domestic arthropods have many synonyms but, alas, silverfish and house centipedes are not interchangeable terms. I mean they are extremely separate phylogenetically. A human has more in common with any other mammal ever than a centipede does with an insect like Thysanura.

No. They aren't.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silverfish - eats starches and sugars.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scutigera_coleoptrata - eats souls of smaller insects

Dear Animalsslamina.

I live in southern Navada, am I safe from the dangerous creature known as the house centipede?

Maybe. Probably not. Best bet is to offer weekly tribute and hope for the best.
