If it's winter where you are, I would say focus on lifting for now. If you're new to fitness, your muscles are probably weak and your body is large. Therefore, even the lightest exercise will be that much harder because your muscles are carrying all the extra baggage. Light cardio is good for now but nothing too intense. Focus on building muscle for now, and then cardio will become that much easier because you won't need as much energy to carry your own body weight. You'll be progressively getting stronger and slowly becoming lighter, making you even stronger than that. Eat well, train hard, sleep good. It's a long road ahead, buddy boy. You should make a playlist with a bunch of motivational **** , it worked for me. Definitely look up stuff from Mateusz M. Find you "Why"
Clean up your diet. That'll be the biggest contributor to weight loss.
Here are a couple tips to follow to make it faster.
1. Avoid Sugar. No more cookies, candies, chocolates, snacks and treats. If something has added sugar in it, don't eat or drink it. Cereals, juices, sodas, pasta sauces. No no no.
2. No processed foods. What's processed? Anything out of it's original form. If it didn't come out of the ground, off the tree, or off of the animal in that form, don't eat it. There is no Oreo Tree, No Dorito Bush, and No chicken that gives chicken nuggets or tenders. If you want those things, make them yourself so you know everything that is going into it.
3. Eat Veggies. Lots of veggies. Shy away from carbs and keep your proteins and fats up. Fat on your body is stored energy. Stop consuming as much energy. Sugars and carbs are energy. (NOT saying other foods don't give energy) These are just the big ones.
i couldn't bench press 50 pounds in the gym before. yesterday i bench pressed 100 pounds ! now i deadlift 190 pounds and squat over 150. you can do it too
Damn dude you need all the miles you can get, no offense.
Good for you for showing initiative, but just keep going until you don't feel disgusted with yourself.
No good shops, real talk support; funnyjunk has ******* changed. No wonder I stopped going on this site. I remember the glory days, eating chicken nuggets and the green background. Choke on a cock tubby, no one cares, but apparently y'all do.
Alright you poofbaloon, listen up. Just by saying on fj that you will ride 100m per thumb which is already 154km, you won't achieve anything, you have to DO IT. 154km with a bike is not ******* easy, I can guarantee it. But don't think about how you will do these things, just try to do them with excitement and joy, and remember - the hardest part is to start and keep doing it. Judging by your selfie I can tell that you are not eating properly as well, like at all.
Riding a bike and keeping your eating habits won't lose you weight, start with diets. Not like vegetable diet or some **** . Start eating properly and cut the junk food - no burgers, no wraps, no sodas, no ice creams, no candies - it is hard to eat healthy, but believe me, you HAVE TO. Find diet programs for yourself and start eating healthy (greens are the most important part). You won't even have to ride your bike to lose some weight already just by eating properly.
Self-esteem. Like I mentioned before, your selfie tells a lot and I can tell you that you don't care about your body (harsh but that's the truth). If you want other people to respect and love you, you have to start with loving and respecting yourself first. Start with looking at the mirror and keep reminding yourself that you don't want to be that fat guy. Start loving your body and keep it fresh, healthy. Your mindset is the only obstacle that will decide if you'll succeed or not.
Riding a bike is just the first step to try and lose weight. If you put all these small things together that I wrote, you'll start to see some difference and you'll feel better. Don't be lazy and just do bike riding or just cutting off some junk food. Start hardcore at the beginning already, so you get into this workout system easily so it will feel like it's a regular part of your day.
To sum it up: Pimpin' ain't easy same goes for workouts.
M8 I believe in you, you gonna be the sickest cunt when ya cut that fat off and be a giant muscle man, **** yeah brah we all gonna make it. Never Stop Bruh.
I used to be pretty similar to you but 6'5 and 300 ish.
Lost it all over the last 2 years down to 200, not all gone im like 13-14% BF.
When you start getting into it youllnotice changes in both the physical and mental aspects of your body, ***** pretty great!
I hope you actually make it, and get comfortable with your body.
But if you made this content cus you felt "I promised them, so I have to do it, this is a way of forcing myself", then you don't really want to lose weight.
If you really want to do something, you will do it. There truly is nothing else.
Here's a youtube of a guy who is doofy as **** , but he knows what he is talking about. He helped me lose weight, and this video is a great exercise for parts of your body that don't benefit as much from riding a bike. www.youtube.com/watch?v=oOvo2PDmL0E
Why is everyone going on about there being something wrong with my picture? It's the right way up for me......
Straya m80
Thank you so much every body. I will do regular progress updates and **** . Currently I will be riding 200 Kilometres over the course of the next month.
Pretty good, just graduated with the rest of the fine young men and women of Australia. Now I can charge people a ******** for drawing pretty pictures! You?
I'm just chilling out and working my ass off at my work.
I play didgeridoo for spare change in at brisbane sometimes as well and I love doing that so I'll probably start doing that more often now that i've got free time.
Artist? I am as well, I do mainly stencil artistry, It's one of my passions. Making a stencil of Abbott rn :L
Stanley is a brand of goon lmfao, that's the joke. My website is rhome.ga , I'm doing some coding on it at the moment though so it might look a bit janky.
Hahahah well I did a bachelors in IT than dropped it and switched to design, so I'd like to think I'm at least decent. I've heard dan the man sells goon simply called 'goon'.
I'm going to say you are above average at web design tbh. Me and some friends threw together a website ( thesircast.net ) and it's literally aids compared to your website >.<
What have you been doing with yourself now that you're free from Uni?
Oh my god your website is so cute, looks like pure html? Dude, get yourself a code editor (there's a few free ones on the net) and fix it up with css. Will take you like a day and the program practically does it for you.
Mostly applying for internships and similar. Did some album art for an American band (The M Machine) recently.
Go check em out, they do.. mixed electronic music? Can't really think of a label for em. Good, none the less. Thank you, that's sweet of you! Good luck studying law.
Hey guys, just thought i'd make another comment to add to my long line of stickies. Thank you all so much for your words of support and kindness <3
Look to those of you who are *********** out of your ass about me being a fat cunt, the truth of the matter is, I literally don't give a **** what I look like. I have a stable job, a beautiful partner and a lovely life. I'm losing weight now so that my children won't have to wear the burden of my bad lifestyle like I did my parents.
Instead of insulting a person who is trying to gain control of their health, I want everyone of you epic bastards that see's this comment to go up to the person you were judging, pat them on the back and say 'I believe in you.' Because that's all it takes.
Don't do it, that's just stupid. If you're that out of shape, you're going to be doing more harm by pushing yourself immediately. Start slow, and work your way up. If you burst your way into it, it'll actually have a negative affect on your overall weightless. That's just a tip though, if you want to try to go full speed max power all day, that's all you if you can do it.
You would have to weigh 92 pounds to burn 200 calories in 12 miles.
The average man weighs 180 pounds, and would burn 392 calories.
OP would burn 653 calories.
If he cycles at a relatively fast pace, he will burn 871 calories.
And if he cycles very quickly, he will burn 1306 calories.
What are you talking about...
I'm just saying that it's not the most efficient option. If you're really looking to burn calories, biking isn't the easiest or fastest way. If I were trying to discourage OP from biking, I'd say some dumb bait-type **** . It's fun and really good for your lungs and heart, but not the best for weight loss.
How fast is op doing the 12 miles? because I can say a few things. Riding 12 miles is roughly equivalent to running 3 miles, cardio wise, and most people can't do it outright. Granted, if he can, kudos, that's awesome. Most people travel at an average speed of 7 - 10 mph while on a bike, while people who are doing it as a sport go from 12 - 15 mph. after that, tour de france and giro d'italia riders at average speeds of up to 20+ mph (The worlds fastest giro d'italia rider rode at an average of 24.9 mph or something like that). I'm, again, not saying OP can't but assuming he's going to be going 15mph for over an hour is pretty crazy, unless he's got great cardio. And where did you get your numbers? My numbers were off. I apologize.
Unlike running, cycling doesn't cause fat people joint pain. You have to go farther to achieve the same caloric impact, but you also go faster so things end up more or less even. This past summer I got really into long distance riding (50+ miles a trip) and I had practically no cardio experience.
Thanks man, I'll be logging my rides and doing it the proper way. I used to ride 30k a day but then someone stole my bike. I saved up cash until I could buy a new one and I only just got enough for one now. :3
Wait, some faggot actually did that?
I've heard of false OC, but faking something as serious as cancer is a dick move. And that's coming from a dickhead such as myself. I'm relatively nice here, but that's because FJ is like the dysfunctional family I chose.
Sigh, said this before and I will say it again. If you ask for things like these, you'll never continue on with it.
Sure, you will have a great first week, it always happens. Then afterwards you will stop for a day, take a "break" of 2 to 3 days, return to it for another day, then forget it ever happened.
Don't ask for thumbs, just Do It
You're weak mentality is forcing you to ask help from others, therefore strengthening your dependency on others to do something that YOU must build. Strengthen your will to do it.
You can do it, anyone can do it. But you must take the initiative yourself. We care about those who want to change, but you must change yourself first.
how about he gets map my ride, then post screenshots of how far he went and what speed. then we can check the speed and see if he can realistically go that fist on a bike. Or just force him to drive really really slow which is just a big as a task
**phantompaladin used "*roll picture*"** **phantompaladin rolled image**im 6'1 and 249 pounds. 2 weeks ago i was 254.
If you drink pop, stop. seriously, not a single can/bottle, ever. drink water, coffee, tea, w/e u want just not pop or fruit juice from concentrate, it has same sugar content as pop. Eventually you'll lose the cravings and you'll be happy enough with water with maybe a squirt of lemon juice.
One day, ONE DAY a week, when you know you wont have to work the next day, work out your upper body with strength training. Get some cheap dumbells, use a weight that you can lift maybe 10 times total, then do that with various forms you can google to target your biceps/triceps etc. take small breaks and repeat until you literally cant anymore. feel sore for 3 days but gain mass that also increases metabolism.
Eat eggs. Like holy **** eggs are so good for so many reasons. Eat them every day. Breakfast lunch w/e, low cal, high protein, and they supress your hunger like nothing else.
Calculate your metabolic rate, just google metabolism calculator. It will tell you how many calories you should be eating each day to lose weight.
Hungry? Eat, eat i say! Never let yourself starve, it slows your body down and kills your metabolism. Just eat low cal foods, like vegatables. Carrots, celery, broccoli. Add a glass of water and hunger pains are gone for another hour at least.
Get enough sleep, as regular as you can. This promotes metabolism and energy.
Keep protein high but calories low. Chicken breats, eggs, tuna, beans, all good. Protein shakes are actually very low in calories so if you want to exercise more I reccomend the shakes if you can stomoch the taste. I cant.
Give youself one day a week to splurge on all the foods your craving. Just one day. Preferably one meal. Eat until you wanna burst, its ok. This jumpstarts your system so it doesnt think its starving. Also helps mentally. My first "cheat" day i went to a buffet and had 3 plates full.
Dont leave bad food in the house, throw it out orgive it away, it will only tempt you. When your hungry, anything tastes good. If all you have is healthy food t hen thats all you'll want when u get hungry.
Its hard I know, Ive done it before and now im doing it again. Mostly from drinking pop, the **** is absolutely terrible. Just one can a day guarantees no weight loss.
Expect to think about nothing but food for the first weeks or so, its literally sugar withdrawl. Sugar is as addictive as most drugs.
Research and stick to a plan. I'm still working hard on myself but i wont give up. Eventually it will become a lifestyle and you wont have to try so hard. Food looks best when your hungry but if you give in you'll feel guity afterwards, so try to fill up on good stuff and it will be a lot easier to turn down the bad.
Good luck bro
I'm 176 cm (5'7) and 60kg (132 pounds) not in bad shape but would like to be better. The thing is I got major allergies for egg white, every vegetable, every fruit and all kinds of nuts. My question is what the hell do I eat as a snack? Since the worst way to improve is starve. I shamefully admit I don't always choose the healthiest alternative
I'm halfway to what you have, I have an allergy to fruits and vegetables, but not so much nuts. So, my diet is mostly meat, nuts, and potatoes.
Taking the right multivitamin (I use origin of life) helps to fill out all of the vitamins you miss out on from not eating the vegetables. Make sure you test smaller sized samples to see allergy level. I had some reaction to the "fruit extracted" ones myself.
you have legitimate, tongue and throat swelling allergies to every fruit and vegetable? its hard to believe but I do know people who are simimlar, and they usually eat nothing but chicken and potatoes. There's gotta be some vegetables you can eat, not even celery? pickles? Also for just hunger you can try shirataki noodles, they have no calories or carbs, basically they're pure fiber, and you can eat them with anything kinda like tofu. I fry some up ocasionally with some mixed frozen veggies and a little Worcestershire sauce.
But if you have as many allergies as you say then I highly recommend consulting a dietitian
Yes believe it or don't. Everthing within the veggies and fruit genre that you can imagine as "raw", especially celery, carrots, snow peas. When it's boiled to a complete mush some of it is safe to eat but my reaction to raw fruit and veggies is throat itch/swelling/hard to breathe followed by days of agonizing toilet sitting with stomach cramps
hey, thanks. Im 6'0 190, but I've noticed i've been putting on alot of weight as of a couple months ago. I've probably picked up at least 20 pounds this last 6 months, and overall I've just been worried about my health. Just good to know that people are fighting the health battle, and its not just the crossfit elitists, you know?
Just wanna say, don't stop drinking pop, that's asking a lot and pointless.
Just switch to diet carbonated drinks. They have functionally zero calories, you can guzzle them all day. All you have to worry about is a caffiene overdose really
diet soda tricks your body into thinking its getting sugar when its not. It increases your cravings by a lot, making it harder to avoid other foods. plus aspartame is just bad and tastes bad
The cholesterol in eggs are fine, it's mostly good cholesterol and there's never been a link between lots of eggs and unhealthy cholesterol levels. Eggs are maybe the perfect food honestly.
just emptied my last bottle of soda a few days ago, and holy **** does the withdrawal from sugar hurt.
headaches as i type this comment, but i've de-toxed sugar before and i know how long i'll have to endure before i get better.
The second night was a blast though. Best night of sleep i've had in a long time.
with that said though, you should not have a cheat day once a week, it's simply too much.
If you eat 200 kcal less than you burn each day of the week and then on the last day you consume over 10000 kcals' in a single day, not only are you going to get the ***** like nobodies business but you're going to effectively eliminate 1 weeks worth of progress.
I have 2 cheat days a year, one right before Christmas and one midsummer, I can understand that in the beginning this can b hard but at least limit yourself to a bi-monthly basis.
a lot of the experts on health sites highly recommend a weekly "cheat" day, so I'm sure there must not be that much of a problem with overdoing the calories at the end of the week.
Also, one guy recommended eating sauerkraut before each cheat meal to keep yourself from getting the ***** .
I didn't.
I got the ***** .
But it was good ***** .
Honestly I found the best way to lose weight is heavy resistance, body building training. I've worked in a gym for 4 years and finally decided... **** I should look like I work here. Maybe people would listen to my workout advice. Girls only liked me for my personality, and I was always the fat kid of my friend group. The nice fat kid never makes it out of the horror movie alive. And at least the ripped douche gets laid before he's decapitated. I wanted to be the guy who gets laid.... or survive. Whatever. It was time to make a choice.
I lost 70 lbs this year by working out 3 times a week (one day all upper body, one day all lower body/midsection, and one day interval cardio). If you have to skip a day, skip cardio. Everyone knows cardio kills your gains anyway. I only did it as a formality to hit on my hot coworkers as I used the stair master. Spoiler alert: it never worked, but at least my ass got a workout.
Resistance training done right burns more calories during the workout, and allows you to continue to burn extra calories throughout the day. Once you start building muscle, your body burns even MORE calories on a daily basis. Its a crazy snowball affect of weight loss. If you keep your diet under 2,000 calories a day, you will slowly burn more and more a day without having to work out more or eat less to improve your gains. (Most people burn 2,000 calories a day on average. Even if you didn't workout, you will have lost fat if you eat less than 2,000).
If you find yourself unmotivated, start taking pre-workout energy, and post-workout protein. (I personally think anyone who works out should take protein, but hey that's just me.) Creatine and all that other **** is extremely unnecessary if you are just trying to lose some weight.
Once you get there, you feel awesome. It's totally worth it. Look at that ******* smile. Look how happy I am. LOOK AT IT.
TL;DR **** you bro, don't eat real food. Only protein powder. Make those gains. Crush that puss.
P.S. I took this mirror selfie for you and I ******* HATE mirror selfies. Don't let me down.
Like a few other people have said, don't go too hard too early. Just like yourself, i used to tip the scale at about three bills - that was three and a half years ago when i graduated high school.
Right now I'm at about 220, it was 205 then thanksgiving and the ensuing leftovers got at me as i reverted to a fat kid for the last month and a half. There are two pieces of advice that i want to give you as someone who's been through the same journey.
1. Your exercise is pretty much worthless unless you eat right. You can ride your bike 20 miles a day but if you're out here consuming 4000 calories of junk, you're just hustling backwards. Changing your diet is the hardest part, you're gonna have to cut people you love out of your life. Colonel Sanders? He's gotta go. Ronald McDonald? That clown kills more kids than pennywise. The King? More like the calorie tyrant. Wendy? Kick that redhead bitch out of your life. Little Debbie? I always knew we couldn't trust that hoho.
Eating right is the hardest part, i still don't do it well. I don't want to kick your confidence, i know how that **** feels when you're fat, but you don't get to three hundred pounds by having a masterful control over your diet.
Eat a salad everyday. Learn to love eggs and brown rice. Find a few different fruits and veggies you enjoy. Go cold turkey on takeout and white bread if you can, cutting those out will drastically help you.
2. Remember why you're doing this. It can really suck. Nobody likes jogging or salads man, but i can personally tell you that it feels great to have people constantly commenting on how skinny you've become or how great you look. It won't fill a hole inside your soul, but it's nice.
People select me for pick up basketball. Girls smile at me and flirt more often. I have more energy and am in a better mood. All these are added benefits, but i did it because i knew that if i couldn't shed the weight, it would be there for the rest of my life -along with the fact that i wanted to look good naked, and I'm not there yet either haha.
It's not easy man, it sucks. I know. Find someone to hold you accountable, or better yet, do it with you. Don't be discouraged when you hit 240 and struggle get below it. Figure out how you can enjoy eating well.
Remember that first and foremost, this is a process. Changes come over months and years, not days and weeks. Also, you're not losing weight, you're getting rid of it and it's never coming back.
Hold up I'm confused.
Eating anything, healthy or unhealthy causes you to gain calories.
Nahyon said "Just start eating properly you **** " as to suggest you dont need to exercise to get in shape.
if you eat 1 doritio a day, you will lose weight.
its terrible "food" and not enough calories to support human body.
Math isnt that hard dude. If you put in more than you take out, you will GAIN.
Cardio is a huge bonus to losing fat, but not 100% necessary.
Eatin properly will not only help you lose weight, it will repair damage and boost your immune system. increase your memory and basically fix everything that is wrong with you. Though that gets into the whole "organic foods" debate. even though there is no disputing the fact that a 100% organic diet makes you incedably more healthy compared to mcdonalds, or whatever..
both exercising and eating properly both have beneficial effects. Eating properly wont help you build muscles if you don't exercise but they both are important.
From what I've heard about diets, they get difficult to follow simply because they get bland and monotonous. If you can, instead learn how to choose good food. Rather than follow a strict plan of what will eat at what times, expand your options to include healthy stuff and eat that.
just do like 10-15 km every second day. for the rest of your life basically.
doing a ******** of cardio in one sitting isn't gonna do jack.
saying "i'm gonna do 150 km on my bike and then imma be fit" really is the wrong mindset.
long term change is the key. you're not gonna be done anytime soon, what you want is a long term maintenance deal.
also, read up on resistance training. you're gonna need to do it.
important: your diet is like 80% of the whole thing.
you are NOT gonna lose weight without changing up your food intake.
check out myfitnesspal.com or any similiar tool.
what you are gonna do is track everything you eat, and i mean everything for the first couple of months at least. see how your nutrients end up, and make adjustments accordingly. just do what the site tells you basically.
again, this is not a "diet and then i'm going back to shoveling grease" kind of deal.
you wanna change the way you look? eat right. forever. you're not gonna be able to never eat ice cream or pizza again, and you shouldn't. just make sure that junk is not a staple in your dietary plan, but an occasional treat.
steer clear of that stuff for a while though.
also, forget the scale, go by looks or measurements. the scale is gonna trick you and kill your motivation. trust.
lastly, have patience. that **** is not gonna come off overnight.
be patient and don't give up. it takes time and there is NO way around it.
don't even think about cutting corners, it aint gonna work.
if you really want to change, you can do it.
everyone can do it, it's really not half as hard as it sounds.
start today, and just never stop.
i wish you much success, and if you do everything i told you, you are guaranteed to succeed.
You need to understand bro, doing sorta gimmicky stuff like this will hold no substance in the long run, you need to accept fitness as a lifestyle if you want to stay healthy.
The thing that makes weight loss hard is BECAUSE you can't burn it all out in one go.
It takes consistency. It takes month of doing the same excerise over and over. And the reason its hard to lose that weight is because not everyone has the willpower to keep up a regiment like that over such a long period of time. It starts off with missing one day like "Oh I was super busy today I couldn't fit it in" and then it just builds from there until you've lost all the progress you've made so far.
I'm not the most qualified to speak about this though - I'm six feet tall and I've never weighed more than 130 pounds in my entire life.
Ah **** man I feel bad that I haven't worked out in 4 days now. Maybe I should get to that. Kind of lost some of my will power to work out after I lost 15 pounds in a month because I went down to like 3000 calories a day. I ******* hate having high metabolism sometimes, it destroys my muscles quicker than I can gain them.
I'm sorry that you are so insecure about yourself that you have to insult strangers on the internet. I wish you the best of luck with growing a set of nuts.
Woah. The fat piece of **** is getting a bit ruffled.
At least I don't have to post on a humour site about my pathetic life choices, because nobody I know personally is willing to take an interest in motivating me to better myself.
To be honest, my weight was a life choice that was made for me when I was young and I've never wanted to shed it due to depression.
I'm well medicated now and i've started a new track to the future for myself.
I don't get why people insult fat men and women when we exercise, I mean yeah, we got fat and let ourselves get to that point, but isn't great to see us do something about it?
Right. Before I was joking with you, but let me be serious for a moment. I see posts like these all the time, and personally I don't think it's 'great' to see you doing something about it. Sure, it's good for you... but it's not great for me. I can't understand why so many people take an interest. You've not even lost any weight yet.
At least lose some weight and post about it later; as for so far, there's nothing in your post to celebrate.
Okay- you're sorting the problem now, but that's for you. I don't see why a humour site is the place for you to post this stuff. You're just one of many millions of fat ***** I'll never meet, so why should I care that you exist, just because you post a picture of your disgusting shapelessness?
