Season 16 Episode 9 of the Simpsons

Bart pretneds to be kidnapped and is just spending time with a big name rapper. Lisa and Skinner go to the rapper's mansion to find evidence. One of the people on stage has a clock displaying the time and another has a necklace with the date and day of the week, as seen in the content. It's just saying it's Thursday, the 20th right now. More just a reference than a joke.

some inbreds think thursday is the fourth day of the week so the joke is 4/20 but thursday is the fifth day of the week

User avatar #31 to #30 - poq ONLINE (08/20/2015) [-]
so why is that significant?

Seriously though it's just a joke. A stupid one, I give you, but it's just a goddamn joke.

But Sunday is part of the weekEND, so monday is the first day which makes thursday the fourth.

the weekend is the ends of the week

It's like the end of bread you have one slice on each side

Sunday is the first, and Saturday is the last.

Maybe not for everyone, but here it is, and that's why the end part of weekend makes sense as well.
User avatar #147 to #35 - thesteenge (08/21/2015) [-]
Except that bread doesn't loop.

Except that the 7 day week is based on the bible and there it also states that sunday (the day of rest) was the seventh day. There is also an ISO (8601) which states that sunday is the last day of the week, not the first.
#155 to #114 - anon (08/21/2015) [-]
Except Saturday was the original day of rest, and the day Jesus rested (he died on a Friday , rested on his Sabbath, Saturday, and then rose again on Sunday)
Sunday seventh day was started by catholics. But, like who cares, if you love god and all worship whenever.
But this is why Jews worship on Saturday.
User avatar #21 to #19 - brobyddark (08/20/2015) [-]
But the calendar puts Sunday at the first day of the week, so Thursday is the fifth day of the week.

It could just be a cultural thing, then. I know everyone over here in the Americas learns it as Sunday-Saturday and not Monday-Sunday. I think they do the same in England and whatnot. If that's the case, then sorry mate. Just a bit of a misunderstanding between cultures.

That's because Europeans aren't as retarded as United Statesians who always do everything in reverse just to appear like a rebel.

Ah yes. Because those calendars we spent years developing and **** don't matter. And its not like there's a song that we learn in ******* KINDERGARTEN that goes "Sunday, Monday, Tuesday,Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday."
User avatar #119 to #26 - wtfduud (08/21/2015) [-]
Is that song a parody of "Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday..."?

I see your kindergarden song, and counter with a nursery rhyme: Solomon Grundy, born on a...?

While this is a stupid thing to argue about, the international -standard- puts monday as the first day of the week. The US, as usual, have however decided to ignore this notion, and tends to put Sunday first. www.timeanddate.com/calendar/days/
User avatar #53 to #52 - brobyddark (08/20/2015) [-]
So, yeah, its a cultural thing, like we've established three times now. Good to know.
User avatar #46 to #26 - Denver (08/20/2015) [-]
Whoa, I think I used to sing that song too, but it started with "Monday" at the beginning. I understand what you are saying, but I personally have always been brought up with Monday as the first day.

London, England. But when I was younger and learning things like days of the week I lived in Stratford, one of the less well-off areas of London so that might be a factor
#144 to #51 - skebaba ONLINE (08/21/2015) [-]
International week form states monday as the first day of the week, because that's the first business/work day of the week these days, since saturday and sunday are freetime. I find this pretty reasonable logic.
#33 to #26 - revelent ONLINE (08/20/2015) [-]
Honestly, putting the sunday at the end of each line wouldn't disturb the balance of the calendar... or anything at all, really.
User avatar #34 to #33 - brobyddark (08/20/2015) [-]
Yeah, but we obviously made those that way for a reason.
#40 to #34 - revelent ONLINE (08/20/2015) [-]
It's because of the whole Sabbath (aka saturday) thing from the jewish religion, I think. Nothing to really do with the development of the calendar's function as a tool to keep track of the year, though.
