Dragon's Dogma strikes a wonderful balance.

You can save anywhere.

But you only have one save file, ever. Just one.

And it autosaves, but it doesn't have a difference between manual saves and autosaves.

So you can't scum out of bad decisions, but you can stop whenever you want.

Also starting a new game clears your old save.

Oh my god, I actually just started playing Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen or whatevs.. And it was the very beginning. Two goblins jumped me and this one guy, he was all "Kill the goblins!" So I panicked, and hit the grab button.. Accidentally grabbed the guy helping me and held him up as the goblins started beating the **** out of him..

I recently found the beauty of the Wii U, the virtual console games, it has a feature where you can make a checkpoint at ANY time and can be loaded ANY time becuase its not actually part of the game. It kinda breaks the game though

I was gifted a game on steam recently that's brought my faith back in turn based games.
Save anywhere, health regen after each battle, limited enemies, and fast leveling.
No useless backtracking and running around, and worst of all, no grinding - just gameplay.
I think it's called Rainslick Precipice of Darkness 3. Not bad.
