2016 will sure be a super happy fun time in Europe.
I just looked up what the annual zookeeper salary is and, wow, I'm rather shocked how low that is. I mean... being a web/graphic designer pays anywhere from 35-45K. and I think caring for a variety of exotic animals would be a lot harder than knowing how to do a pretty picture or a cool website.
Er, supply and demand I guess? Either way it seems ****** to me.
I mean, a lot of people who do stuff like this really love to do it, but sometimes you've got bills to pay so you can't stick with it unless you've got outside money of some sort. Like, I'm currently working with animals to pay my way through school.
The U.S. is a very large nation with a LOT of very rural areas. Cost of living varies ENORMOUSLY in America because of that. Large cities are usually just about as expensive to live in as most places in Europe, and salaries reflect that. However, most rural places quite simply don't cost that much to live in. That reflects in the average salaries of people living there (and consequently what they consider a good salary).
For example, I once went from a near 6-figure job in a medium/large size city to earn about $40k in a rural area (I just didn't like cities and wanted to go back to rural America) and actually had a significant INCREASE in my overall quality of living. I afforded a much nicer house, my bills were much less than half as much, etc. and I had more free spending money left over.
To be honest a person earning $40k in a rural American area can live with a standard of life that many earning SIGNIFICANTLY more in cities would be envious of. You should see the house that I bought off $40k/year in a rural area...a large 3 story 5 bedroom home with a wraparound deck on all 4 sides looking out over dunes and Lake Michigan and its own significant amount of forested land. It's way better than anything I could afford working for much more in a more populous area...it would easily be a million dollar home/property where I was previously living/working.
So yes, when you can live so well off $40k in so many areas of the U.S. there are plenty of people that consider $40k a very good wage in the U.S.
That's sort of what I was thinking. Poor would be about below 30K in my opinion, so it's at least sustainable, but when I hear "paid really well" I think of something like 50-60-70K a year.
Depends on where you live. I live in West Virginia which has one of the lowest cost of living int he U.S. My wife and I only make $40,000 a year combined and I can pay all of our bills and then some.
I make around that kind of money taking care of developmentally disabled people. I was just thinking about that in comparison to taking care of orangutans, but I figured I have less chance of being murdered if someone in my field acts out.
Orang's are usually pretty calm, especially when compared to other apes.
I'd say they were least likely to freak out or try to murder you.
I would guess you have more chance of being murdered by a retard than an Orang.
Somehow I suspect that this is some kind of reserve in a poor-ass country in south-east asia and not the San Diego Zoo.
Considering that, 39k sounds an awful lot, especially considering that it's more than what a nursery teacher earns in Europe or North America Exept for Mexico you smartass
But I might be terribly wrong and it's actually just 39k Malaysian Ringgit
**NoYouCantEatThat used "*roll picture*"** **NoYouCantEatThat rolled image****** that pays pretty well. Not well enough for me to wanna take care of a **** ton of orphaned orangutans. Too sad for my liking. .
