For all those asking, the ball was never supposed to be snapped (at least in that situation). The point is to throw off the defense, and if they don't bite you are just supposed to call a timeout or let the clock run and try a different play
this is a REALLY old play i'm talking about 1950's basically what they were trying to do is get the defense to move with the offense clearing a path for a run play. but 1. they didn't do it fast enough because the defense got set amd 2. everyone knows this old ass play and can see it coming a mile a way...it's like a fake punt/kick you can only do maybe once every two seasons and you have to do it quick.
C-coach.....I think maybe we sho-
Snap the ball, son
Yeah, but...coach? They're not moving. Maybe we should bring everyone back over an-
SONNY, just snap the ball
Coach, it's not gonna-
GOD DAMNIT JUST SNAP THE ******* BALL. THERE IS NO POSSIBLE WAY THIS CAN FAIL, THEY'LL BE TOO DISTRACTED BY THE LINE OVER THERE TO NOTICE
*Meanwhile, a conversation between David Andrews and the Patriots linebackers*
What the **** are you doing?
I got no ******* clue man, you want this? We don't need it anymore
