He's right. He's absolutely right.
This is one of the big reasons I started going to the gym. When I see people like this talking about the subject, I took at it as he was talking to me. It motivated me more than anything else.
Being fat is NOT beautiful. It's given me heart problems, back problems and insane self-esteem issues and it's all my fault. There is almost no excuse for being fat. The only thing that is a real excuse is a genuine thyroid problem.
I am ECSTATIC when I go to the gym because I know that I will finally not be grouped together with all these 'accept me because I'm beautiful' faggots. Every time I weigh myself and see 3 or 4 pounds disappear, it just motivates me more to keep going. I thank people like this because if it wasn't for it, I probably would still not be trying to fix it.
gym is about efficiency, with better equipment in constantly cooled temperatures with trainers there to help, you can do much more rigorous training than just playing a sport; and sports aren't free either.
Why would you confine yourself to a single sport that will work out certain muscle groups where you have to show up at a certain time when you can get a gym membership, work out whatever you want, when you want and get the same benefits and more?
WTF are you talking about? Are you telling me hiking and **** is better than a routine of weight training and cardio at the gym? I bet you're a cycle fag.
I think if you are really overweight, you aren't even capable of doing real sports, because you need a let's decent physique. In the gym you can shed fat and build up muscle in the most efficient way like cowisbeast stated. Once you've improved, you can do sports to keep your body in shape. But even there you always need to exercise reguarly to improve yourself and your skills. No matter which pro athlete you ask, no matter which kind of sports they are in, the gym is part of their weekly, maybe even daily routine. Football players, cyclists, swimmers, volleyball players ... no matter what.
Nobody, but if you wanna play, let's say basketball. If you are heavily overweight, you won't have fun/be able to play, because you'll be out of breath in less than a minute. To get to the point to play these sports and have actually have fun, you need to lose some weight and improve your endurance. Going to the gym and jogging are the best ways to do that.
Another plus for the gym is that you are not dependant on others. While team games are fun, it's not always possible to find enough people to play all the time (at the same time).
most sports have registration fee and people would want to pay the extra $15 for the ability to go when they want and not "x:30 on wednesday for training and y:00 on saturday for a match".
Also you can work more muscle groups at a gym than you can with a single sport, just because you can do a single sport as a teen and be fit doesn't mean it'll work that way for adults, just fyi
National Fitness Center? My gym has the theatre too. I think it's a really cool idea because you get so lost in the movie, you don't even focus on the exertion of exercise.
Do you like it? How long have you been going? What kind of classes do they have? I'm very new to the gym scene (I just got my membership Sunday) and I'd like to know what most gyms have..especially more reputable gyms like Gold's Gym.
I love it. I've been going for two weeks and just from cardio and diet I've lost 18 pounds. They have basically every class you'd expect : yoga, spin class, cardio training, zumba, aerobics, etc. They have every machine you could think of and just a lot of equipment in general. Very nice employees and personal trainers. I've only been to one other gym and at the time I thought it was great. Golds makes it look like a playground lol
That's great! I just met with my personal trainer today. I'm actually a little happy. I only have 27 lbs to lose and my BFP is 37% or something. That isn't too bad. He gave me a meal plan that actually has me eating MORE food than I normally do and I have an exercise regimen. Those machines are really confusing at first. Like, you can see illustrations, but you don't know how many to do or what exactly you should do with them. I'm glad it was cleared up a little bit. Do you take any classes?
That's awesome, man. It's always nice when you realize you don't always have to eat like a bird to be able to lose weight. Glad you got all your questions cleared up One of the main reasons people stop going to the gym is because they think they don't know what they're doing which leads to them thinking no progress is being met.
I personally don't take any classes yet because I don't feel comfortable doing them at my weight. I have bad social anxiety issues, so being in a gym is hard enough..but being in a room with mainly hot ass bitches in yoga pants makes me go beta mode and slither to the dark parts of the gym lol. Right now I mainly do cardio and when I get to a comfortable weight, I plan on going to most classes. which wont probably be for a few months because my overall goal to lose 100 lbs, and my 'getting comfortable with myself' weight is after 50 pounds, and I'm only at about 17-18 down
Well remember, if you don't lose the 100 lbs, don't get upset. You'll probably lose about 80-85 lbs, BUT you will gain muscle. That's good ^^ and yeah..I know what you mean. My gym has conveniently placed the ab things right next to the weight room so I'm trying to get rid of my pudge and while I do so, I have to stare at these ******* Adonis' with tight muscles and I just blush and look down like..don't look at me! Thankfully, my gym has a girls only section so I don't have to feel bad about that too much. Congrats and good luck, man!!
Thyroid fag here, I had hyperthyroid but I had the radioactive treatment to burn the gland, and apparently now i have hypothyroid, I stopped to take my pills because they hurt my chest when I did, I been doing runnings every 2 days for 1 hour each non stop jugging.
Can I lose weight without taking the pill, is it possible for me?
If someone is not athletic, I really think they should try it. Try your hardest to build endurance, do some hiking, cut down your fat levels. It's a pretty awesome feeling. I say this having lost much of my athletic ability after half a year of bulking up (I plan to get it back). It really sucks having to make an effort to do perform a squat...
Even with thyroid problems you can still lose weight. It's harder to do and takes longer but anyone can lose weight. It's also treatable, sometimes it takes awhile to find the right medication and the right dose though.
Good for you man! You should hop on the /fit/ board sometime. There's a lot of folks on there -including myself- that are here to help anyone with any questions.
This is my transformation if you're curious.
Before: BW 250lbs, lifts were ~145 bench, 215 deadlift, pretty much incapable of performing real squats.
I'm sitting here, agreeing with everything he saying, but also waiting for the shop down the street to open so i can go get me some tiger tail doughnuts.
So ******* true, todays world has become too lazy and accepting of problems that they almost given up on life. no ambition or motivation to make something of themselves.
I like that he pointed out that he has unhealthy meals now and then.
A lot of people think eating healthy means you never get to have a burger or lasagne or carnivore pizza. That's ******** .
You just don't have them all the ******* time. You also can have popcorn or chips or whatever. But once a week on a movie or game night. Not all day every day.
Living healthy doesn't mean you don't get to enjoy yourself. Just that you do it smart and in moderation.
Oh **** , now that he's finally revealed this obvious information to me, time to start working out.
Yeah, I don't care. My girlfriend is a chubby chaser and she loves me, so I'm happy with it. Am I lazy? I dunno, I woke up at 2am because the bed was uncomfortable and threw out my old mattress and moved another one into my bedroom and went back to bed. I don't think I can call myself lazy when I do random physical **** like that.
it really doesnt take that much effort to be honest. i go to the gym 5 days a week, i bike 3 days a week, and i eat healthy every single day. people who cant get off their lazy asses disgust me. if i did it anyone can do it. i realize i still have a long ways to go but atleast i started.
Where do you live? New York?
I buy chicken from an organic farmer and it comes down to a lot less than that.
Though I buy an whole chicken and take it apart myself. You should look into that, its much cheaper way to eat chicken.
You can use skin and bones to make good chicken stock. You get all kinds of meat and it comes down to about 1/5 to 2/3 of a price if you were buying already cut down one.
There are youtube videos that show how to cut up chicken very simply.
Holly **** the **** .
I pay about 8 dollars for an organic free range chicken straight from the farmer. (it gets killed in front of me, so dinner and a show )
But normal chicken in the store is about 4$ here...
Umm, do you guys have Lidl? My mom shops in Lidl in Germany and she says prices are a lot lower than otherwise. (shot in the dark, since you guys are right next to Germany)
There a Lidle less than 100 meters from my apartment.
Thats where you can get chicken at that price...
One of the issues with living in Denmark, is that we have a ******* of different taxes. One of the more infamous ones, is a flat 25% of the total price on anything sold.
So if Lidl buys 20 ton chick or something, they need to sell it for atleast 26% more than they bought it.
Wow that's ******** .
I'm originally from Bosnia, and have friends in Croatia. They have a 25% tax too, but its only 5% for food and books.
I'm honestly surprised Danish people are not buying farms and growing their own food at these prices...
Because Denmark is a small country, and some of our main exports are meat and corn. There is ofcourse also other factors, like the price on danish soil, which is abnormally high and the fact that farmers still practise nepotism like in the old days.
If you are gonna buy a piece of land, you need to have millions in your bank and be prepared to pay several thousands in tax.
