This breaks my heart

Man this really breaks my heart to hear, disowned by your own flesh and blood

A perfect exaple of how much hate and intolerance still exists today. This family gave a young man two options: attend a pray the gay away intervention, or face being disowned by the very people who are supposed to love him unconditionally.

Parents handled this very poorly, but just from the video, I would judge that the kid isn't entirely blameless.

I remember when my brother came out to my family--now bear in mind that my folks are astoundingly non confrontational. They don't fight, they don't scream. I think I've heard my dad swear once, when we got in a car accident. Our family is fairly religious, and my folks are older (sixties) so there are some ideas that are still foreign to them, such as homosexuality NOT being a choice.

My brother did some of the same things this kid did. He turned on a camera (my parents didn't know, and I only found out later) and he had some of his friends listening in on skype. Mom cried, of course--she had no idea, he had hidden it so well for so long. Neither did my Dad. He did some of the same baiting sort of tactics--"are you going to throw me out and disown me? Are you going to beat me?" Obviously my parents were horror struck by these suggestions.

They told him they loved him, and that they didn't really understand, but that they'd always love him, no matter what. They encouraged him not to close off from them, or from his friends at church.

Throughout the hour long conversation, he repeatedly made angry, aggressive comments towards them, trying to get some sort of a rise out of them. To this day I can't understand why he tried to bait them for the camera like that.

This is why I am worried about coming out to my parents.

So they go by the way of God and their conclusion is to disown their child?
Is that seriously the way of God for them?
God dammit, can people even ******* think?
