It's not theft-proof if the tool used to release the trap CAN STILL BE USED TO RELEASE THE TRAP

That isn't a wire, it is a cable. It can be very difficult to cut using wire cutters, which rely on the metal shearing to cut the wire. When you try to cut cable the strands simply flex and aren't sheared away. Those could probably cut it, but they would most likely be dulled down quite a bit (wire is made of soft metals like copper, not steel) and it would be time consuming.

I use exactly those cutters to cut steel cable up to 1/4 inch at my job

don't underestimate those cutters, they cost 60$ and could cut your way through the earth
