Hello, fellow funnyjunkers, I'm Agronimo, a young actor and theatre enthusiast that dreams of becoming someday a contemporary dramaturge, performance artist, post-modern guru, pretentious and pompous piece of **** stoner

Because it is my passion and I want to share it with you guys, I've decided to start making comps where I'll talk you about great theatre personalities. They are people that have inspired me, famous and obscure playwrights, directors, actors and theorists with interesting lifes and oddities

So, without further ado, let us commence. And what would be a better start than with the grandfather of modern theatre? The one and only:

Who hasn't heard of him? Probably the most well-known theatre theorist of all times, Konstantin Sergeyevich Alexeyev started his career and passion for the stages at a very young age, influenced by his father, who was a theater enthusiast and had personal theatre built on his state. He even organized little familiar plays where little Stanislavski first debuted as an actor

However, following the lifestyle of a performer was not what was expected from a child coming from one of the richest families of Moscow, but that didn't stop young Stanis from obsessing with everything theatre related, and oh, boy, did he obsess... In fact his over-analyzing personality is actually what would later lead him to change the way actors approach their characters forever

When he was a teen, Stanis would start to seek a complete naturalness in his performances, so much that he started to stay in character in real life. Later on he would go as far as dressing like beggars and living in the alleys of Moscow for weeks to immerse himself completely and merge with the emotions of his roles

He cofunded the Moscow Art Theatre with Vladimir Nemirovich-Danchenko and started to put his theories into practice in 1898. Stanislavski thought that an actor should not try to emulate emotions on stage, rather he proposed a brand new way for actors to perform: the infamous Affective Memory. Long story short, Stanislavski proposed a method in which the actor would attempt to “relive” emotions utilizing his own personal experiences and a necessary level of imagination to fill in the gaps

This was (And still is) a dangerous and controversial idea for an era where actors would never try to emotionally relate to their characters, as it could easily make the actor cross the line between his real emotions and the character's, potentially hurting them in the process

Nowadays Stanislavski's pure method is kind of outdated, as most “Stanislavskian” actors tend actually to use Michael Chejov's revisions over Stanislavski's work, however his fingerprint is still very present in the way film actors portray their roles in front of the cameras

All in all, we owe good ol' Stanislavski for providing us with the means for a natural and sincere theatre and filmmaking, and we actors owe him the means to share our emotions with our public, letting us learn and grow as persons as we perform, and allowing to inhabit the souls of countless characters. And he did all that just asking us to do one simple thing: Imagine
