Both the boss and the leader are flawed the best way is one where the guy is up top normally and he's directing them around obstacles while keeping an eye on the big picture and if needed jumps down and helps pull until they get through the rough zone. While the one on the bottom looks like he's the best he can be more occupied with pulling and what's right in front of him to see the big picture and the best path and leads them right into quicksand.

Your pseudo-intellectual ******** pisses me off. The leader is a leader for a reason, and most get there with their powers of observation. So, using the metaphor "leads them right into quicksand" is not only ********, but completely undermines the statement in this image. The leader leads by example, period, and since we are social animals we rely on leadership and experiential learning to better understand our progress and shortcomings. When people undermine the leader and find ways to legitimize the boss [who is NOT depicted here "jump(ing) down" to help others] in their tyranny is tantamount to giving into slavery.

no, the power of the leader is to be able to both direct and do the work at the same time.

A leader is not a blind do-er. It's not the same as your ******** highschool group work leadership where the "leader" just tells other people what to do.

Your view of the leader is flawed.

You beat me to it. To be a strong manager you need to be a strong leader, and vise versa. Those that think otherwise have not been on both sides.

No this is ******* stupid. Do you guys not understand the importance of experience? A man who worked for 50 years as a carpenter knows what to do but may not be able to physically do it anymore. He can still tell others how to make ****. Also if you spend 30 years in a company why the **** should you have to do the same menial **** as the average employee? There's no reason for promotion if the CEO is doing the same exact work as the stock boy. You work your way up and have to do less work. It's a plus that you can brush work off to the lower employees below you. Want to be in that position? Bust your ass and work hard to achieve it. It's a matter of motivation. Something tells me everyone on this site is a low end employee who are mad because their boss actually makes them do their job. How awful.

I don't understand the people on this site and their obsession with having an account... it doesn't make you special. I can say what I want just fine as anon. It doesn't matter who I am, what matters is what i'm saying. I'm right here defending it. My identity isn't what's important here.

**** changes in 30 yrs new and better ways of doing things are found by that average employee, its the little man that matters the ceo is just a pencil pusher who acts like he knows what the **** is going on. Ok sure he has some advice but we're always inventing **** better ways of doing things so while mr. ceo is sitting around in his 300 dollar suit getting paid for the work of the low end empyoyees. And the ceo gets mad when something breaks? I say it wouldn't have happened if mr 30 yrs of experience was out there using that experience not brushing it off to the stockboy who is only working there to put gas in his car so he can go hang out with friends and do normal teen age/ college age kid stuff not bust his ass not making sure walmart has enough duck dynasty crap so he can one day sit on his ass and make the next generation feel like ****. Yes I currently am a low end employee, so ******* what? I actually deserve the scratch I get paid, so I can fix my truck up and get back and forth to school so one day I can be a welder and get paid the same as your ceo but I will actually deserve it.

Things do change in 30 years, this is why the people go to conventions and **** to learn these new ways of doing things. You think when a doctor gets his medical license he just stops learning about the newest medical advances? He keeps up with modern times. The CEO has more important **** to do rather than fill out time sheets and what not. You fill them out then he handles them. He has his job and you have your job. Just do your work. If the college kid doesn't want the job then ******* quit. No one is making you work there. Leave. There are other people who want that job. You have nothing to complain about.

Einsty, there was one occasion upon which someone thought it would be appropriate to donate a suitcase full of puke. Another time a childrens diaper box came in with several half used sample packs of extenze and candy boxes. Piss stained mattresses are practically a weekly thing, mementos from the homes of elderly women who no doubt finally succumbed to their umpteen-thousandth pack of cigarettes judging by the stench of every single thing that is in the donation. Sex toys, purses with tampons (luckily only one ever was used), just about anything you would every think "Oh no, that's never going to be anything but garbage." people have donated with every expectation of it being sold.

A boss isn't taking his people anywhere. He isn't offering them a better life. He's just giving them a way of maintaining their life in the same place.

A leader takes people new places, gives them a goal to strive for and helps them achieve said goal.

I'd take a leader over a boss any day.
