They did it with the Batman: The Brave and the Bold series too.
This reality changing Batman fan named Batmite appeared in the final episode deciding he wanted a more serious Batman show. So the whole episode was just him purposly making the show worse and worse, by warping reality, until the executives decided to cancel it(all of this happened in show).

but he ended up praising several points of the show, stating that there were several really solid episodes.
What was meant to occur was Beware the Batman, however the Cinema Shooting occured, then you had to do lots of revised scripts since well the killer dun goofed the production, so what you would have had was literally animated Daredevil/90s bats albeit slightly less violent but everything hit the wall so everything got scaled back, series went on hiatus, bombed in the ratings then got cancelled.
