The original was composed of the style popular back in the day with the speed and instruments. Disturbed changed it by making it more calm with the piano and his voice.
**gigabowzer used "*roll picture*"** **gigabowzer rolled image** Let me add onto this.
The album this was released in seems to imply that the singer had a different intention for the song. The song was released with the songs The Vengeful One and Immortalized. Considering the original context of the song, I think what the singer is try to get across is we have lost the way. Our priorities have been destroyed and the focus on humanity is gone.
"The song uses the imagery of light and darkness to show how people's ignorance and apathy destroys their ability to communicate even on simple levels.
Its theme is man's inability to communicate with man. The author sees the extent of communication as it is on only its most superficial and "commercial" level (of which the "neon sign" is representative). There is no serious understanding because there is no serious communication - "people talking without speaking - hearing without listening". No one dares take the risk of reaching out ("take my arms that I might reach you") to disturb the sound of silence. The poet's (character in the song) attempts are equally futile (" . . . but my words like silent raindrops fell within the wells of silence"). The ending is an enigma. The words tell us that when meaningful communication fails, the only sound is silence. "
Turns this from the meaning of media to the meaning of communication between humanity. Our voices are merely silence because it is no longer meaningful.
nope.
look at the lyrics, it is full of metaphors for oppression.
"People talking without speaking" and "People hearing without listening" is about them scared
to speak the truth and scared to listen to anyone saying it, you have lines like the "neon god"
which they made, this is talking about how corporations which was created by the money and
use of the public has turned into this all seeing unstoppable thing that everybody still has
this faith in despite it controlling them.
there is also ""Fools," said I, "You do not know.
Silence like a cancer grows.
Hear my words that I might teach you.
Take my arms that I might reach you."
But my words like silent raindrops fell
And echoed in the wells of silence"
that is about him trying to gather the people together maybe like a revolution but they are
so scared and crushed that they refuse to even look his way, the "silence" seems to be
a metaphor for the oppression itself, if you do not fight back when oppression starts then
the silence will only grow and grow untill it is everything.
the slow rise of the slow song makes it feel like a song about ascending.
"sound of silence" is a term that reminds me of what silence feels like when you're scared of the dark or reading a lovecraft book.
just listen to the song with the literal aproach in mind while remembering the concept of above-human knowledge tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TheseAreThingsManWasNotMeantToKnow
and the theory that gods and spirits are created through the unified human subconscious.
if you've ever watched code geass then that's a boost i guess
give it a try if you feel like it. your imagination will probably do the rest for you. song is a bit different each time you listen to it that way
Is that album cover thing supposed to also be a reference to The Sound of Perseverance an AMAZING album, by the way by Death? That would make this a double homage, to two different things that both contain "The Sound of" in their name.
Same. Back in high school Disturbed was my **** . I think I got away from metal because the heavy stuff that became popular just sounded like people puking to a guitar riff, and the lyrics were **** . This album is making me think I should get back into it.
I'm under no obligation to defend my position. I think this is gay. I'm not even trying to convince others that its gay. Just stating my opinion. Imposing on nobody, assuming nothing. Docile.
there are just some songs that I can't stand people covering. this is one of them. Don't get me wrong its very well done, and he has a nice voice, I just think that it isn't really a song that other people can do. for example, you ever hear Korn cover Pink Floyed another brick in the wall. Its a lot like that.
Life is amazing. I'm always wondering when I'll next find that one song that I get hooked on for the next week.
There are songs out there right now that I haven't heard of that are that kind of song. I don't even know how old this song is and I've never heard it before, but I love it.
this is decent when listened to at a normal volume but when i play it at full blast though my headphones with extra bass, holy **** , it becomes amazing
