Actually many products are designed to fail after a certain amount of time it's called "Planned obsolescence". Let's say you are a company that makes phones. You make a good phone that will last decades and will never break (aka Nokia). People buy a lot of this phone as it's so good. You make a lot of money and then the consumer stops buying. Everyone who's going to buy the phone has already bought it. Market saturation, you are **** out of luck. A different company *cough* Apple *cough* makes phones that can break and comes out with different versions of it with little improvements tacked on every year. They makes tons of money, but most importantly they can continue to sell their product as there is a recurring demand built in due to the product being designed to fail, and the little improvements they've thought of years in advance but parcel out piecemeal.

i have dropped my iphone so many times I've lost count, and it still works perfectly and has like one tiny crack.

i once kicked my phone into a wall... it slipped out of my hand and i figured that i'd dampen it's fall by sticking my foot out for it to land on but the response came so late that my foot was moving decently fast as my phone landed on it and as a result catapulted it across my room and into a wall

The Nokia Lumia's look pretty good and are damn near indestructible. The legacy continues.

I don't know about you guys but my old indestructible Nokia wasn't built like a brick.

Every time I dropped the phone it would break into a dozen pieces.. BUT, could always be put back together again and worked fine.

New phones are no different, but glass is pretty hard to put back together again.
