Oklahoma sucks. It's pretty bad that our news stories are about other states.

The only reason I drive auto is the traffic, so I don't have to constantly use my left foot on the clutch.

ya, but what's the point of having a car if it doesn't have a PRNDL?

I can't drive stick, can someone who isn't going to be elitist about it explain to me why it's better?

As the others said you can get better fuel mileage although with some new automatics coming out now it is pretty even between standard and auto for new vehicles. The biggest advantage which a lot of people don't seem to think about is having total control over what gear your car is in at any given time. You can gear down as you begin to descend a hill or want to slow down and the motor will hold you back so you don't have to touch your brakes which makes them last longer and saves money. This also makes it safer in slippery conditions where braking will cause you to lose traction and potentially spin or understeer into a corner. Standard transmissions also generally last a lot longer than automatics and are significantly cheaper. To replace an automatic transmission can cause thousands of dollars if it does fail. An automatic can be built up stronger than a standard but it is expensive.
This information comes from being an automotive mechanic for years and driving all types of transmissions since I began driving.

Got a 5-speed stick last november, and I can say I don't want to ever go back. The rush of shifting at high revs just feels so badass.

been driving stick since 17, it really isn't hard. But it is funny when my friends who don't even have cars are like, "how do you do that?"

Where does this stereotype that Americans can't drive a stick come from? Is it because most of our cars are automatic? We do that because we're lazy, not because we can't drive a stick.

TFW Me and all my white friends know how to drive stick.

I actually bought an entire car to take the engine and manual transmission out of it to put in my (less rusty) daily driver.
And because it'll be faster. That's a biggie.

Only reason I drive an auto is because my car is a hybrid and apparently you can't convert those

what's so difficult? you shift to the number of power that you need to drive and you press the pedal. It's just like riding a bicycle a ginormous, armoured, 4 wheeled, contained, motorised bicycle that is in no way like a bicycle

We drive automatic more than stick therefor we can't drive stick... This is really still a stereotype?

Since when was manual called "the stick".. That's a pretty retarded name for a car that is just manual drive.. **** me..

Since always. You're shifting gears with a stick...stick shift.

You call your trucks lorrys (or however it's spelled) what's that about?
