So a little while ago I shared the petition made against Bahar Mustafa, the woman who denied financial aid to white males at some University in the UK.
And this morning I received an E-mail saying that she has been "Arrested over racist genocidal urging".
I'm pretty sure many of you already know since you should have gotten an e-mail about after singing the petition, but I thought I should give an update for those who may not have gotten en e-mail.
Well done FJ, you guys helped alot getting to that final push. I'm pretty sure we got a couple hundred votes from you guys and I'm proud.

She was equality chief or some **** on some university and denied white men access to meetings or whatever. Then she started using the killallmen hashtag and promoting violence against men based on gender and skin color, because apparently that is what equality means.

Now she got arrested for her ******** .

Yea, but if anything this'll be an example of why those laws are so stupid. But she probably won't the be final straw, it'll probably take another innocent, white man to do it. I mean, who's going to defend her besides feminists?

Sargon of Akkad and Mundane Matt support her.

They support her right to free speech, not the individual. They do however want her to be tried for her acts of discrimination. I'm not going to be supporting her case unless they pull out an actual good argument.

Are you saying I should support her position in this case because two other people do? That's rather odd logic. I think I'm going to wait and see her response to all of this. Until then, I'm not going to be against her, but I'm not really going to be for her either.

look while i detest this woman i still fall firmly on the side of free speech, as such i do not beleive she should go to prison or be punished by law for some tweets, fired yes, ignored by anyone with half a brain yes, but not punished by law.
and befor you say why protect her, quite simple, by protecting her right to free speech i also protect my own.
TLR shes a bitch but she shouldnt be punished by law for it

Death threats aren't covered by free speech

Do you think a call to genocide is?
User avatar #337 to #329 - amuter (10/08/2015) [-]
First of all: "The Court held that government cannot punish inflammatory speech unless that speech is directed to inciting, and is likely to incite, imminent lawless action."
The "speech" is indeed directed towards inciting lawless action, whether or not it is imminent is arguable since SJWs have been building up **** like this for ages and it feels like it's only a matter of time.

Secondly: I don't think "Supreme Court of the United States" is relevant to the United kingdom or more specifically London for that matter. I wouldn't be surprised if they had the same or a similar law tho so if you're not as lazy as me in terms of digging through foreign laws I'd recommend that you do so.

Eh, I'm kinda split. While I'm supporter of free speech, "kill all white men" is radical to say the least, and can be taken as a serious threat to public safety. I wouldn't recommend her be thrown into a prison, however I do want to see this bitch lose her job(and future jobs) like any racist/sexist piece of **** should.
#132 to #108 - bigmanblue (10/08/2015) [-]
oh yeah, free speach and all but not no consequences
#201 to #30 - anon (10/08/2015) [-]
I thought she was going to jail because she sent threatening messages. Even doing so with her school email. As in, using the email she's supposed to use for work and sending threatening messages. Free speech is fine, but you can't threaten someone harm.
#238 to #30 - nagafever (10/08/2015) [-]
**nagafever used "*roll picture*"**
**nagafever rolled image** saying kill all white men is like saying kill a big percentage of cops which is defo against the law

If i said the same thing about woman and black people i would get in a lot of trouble. Free speech yes. Freedom to hate and say "kill all men"... Weeeell..
#70 to #30 - ninjaflapjack (10/07/2015) [-]
The reason behind free speech is the free flow of facts. Hared is an emotion not a fact. You can spread the same facts without spreading hatred. Hense laws can distinguish the two and punish people who are legitimately attempting to co-erce people into doing harm. This is the moral standpoint i feel that laws in many countries come from.
#261 to #70 - pebar (10/08/2015) [-]
that has never, ever, been the case of with free speech
because then you end up with government controlling what is considered fact and what is not.
#319 to #261 - ninjaflapjack (10/08/2015) [-]
Actually almost every country with free speech legislation currently has clauses for hate speech en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hate_speech. All of these governments have their own clear legal definitions on this.
#320 to #319 - pebar (10/08/2015) [-]
except the US, where our courts have defended hate speech time and time again

#321 to #320 - ninjaflapjack (10/08/2015) [-]
America has also got a limit on this of "so long as it doesn't promote imminent violence".
User avatar #323 to #321 - pebar (10/08/2015) [-]
IMMINENT is the key word there
#326 to #323 - ninjaflapjack (10/08/2015) [-]
The point I was making is that promotion of violence is punishable by law. The difference you seem to be arguing is the boundary point at which it becomes hate speech as opposed to free speech. On one end of the scale laws could decide not to stop anything which could be seen to be instigating any violence at all - imminent or not. On the other end of the scale laws could decide to stop everything which could be perceived as promoting violence in any way. I'd argue that both of ends of this scale is wrong and the only acceptable answers to this lies in the grey area between these points. Pretty much all countries including america lie in the grey area around this all at slightly different points along this scale. When both sides of this argument have huge positives and negatives who is to say which country's stance is 'right'?
#334 to #328 - ninjaflapjack (10/08/2015) [-]
The mistake you're making here is you're just looking at US law to determine who is right. The UK has always had a different law structure. I’ve just been trying to explain the reasoning behind UK law.
User avatar #335 to #334 - pebar (10/08/2015) [-]
so the uk doesn't have free speech

I understand that
#336 to #335 - ninjaflapjack (10/08/2015) [-]
... then neither does america. otherwise you Could be allowed to call someone a ****** to their face and get away with not being prosecuted.
User avatar #327 to #326 - pebar (10/08/2015) [-]
the difference is like calling someone a ****** to their face vs on twitter
on twitter, any reaction is not immediate so there is time for people to think

the restriction is about knee-jerk reactions, not the ideas themselves
#139 to #30 - notafunnyguy (10/08/2015) [-]
I dont think she'd be jailed for long. But going to jail, even for a day, is enough to have her criminal record checks come up dusty for any position of responsibility in the future. Which, in turn, means she will never in her life get another opportunity at this. Simply firing her would mean she could go somewhere else and still do this, without being vocal about it because she learned her lesson. Firing her wouldn't have kept her from repeating this, only taught her how to repeat it better.
#246 to #30 - toolazytoname (10/08/2015) [-]
Denying financial aid, and calling for violence against people based on their skin color and gender kinda goes out of boundaries of free speech though.
User avatar #260 to #246 - pebar (10/08/2015) [-]
why.... because you disagree with her opinion?
OMG that's so far out of the boundaries of free speech

User avatar #268 to #267 - pebar (10/08/2015) [-]
threats have to be credible and specific
general advocacy of violence by one person is not credible, nor specific
User avatar #293 to #268 - redandgreen (10/08/2015) [-]
I'm guessing that's why she's been summonsed. The court will decide whether this is protected speech or not because it could be construed as incitement and there were complaints..
#279 to #268 - toolazytoname (10/08/2015) [-]
Calling for violence against white males though twitter, used by millions, while having specific group of followers consisting of thousands, and share similar views. And she is arrested for urging, not organizing racist genocide.

According to yours logic genocidal dictators did nothing wrong, because they only said to kill people while others did the actual killing.

People don't seem to understand the difference between "Arrested" and "Incarcerated"

If you go into a movie theater and shout "Fire!" you're probably going to be arrested in order to A. keep the peace and B. try and teach you a lesson. Doesn't mean they're going to lock you up and throw away the key. It's a slap on the wrist, you're blowing it out of proportion. She was literally calling for murder and she's only getting a slap on the wrist. She probably won't even lose her job.

Some laws may be retarded, but that's just how legislative laws are. Break them, and you have to deal with the consequences. Not saying that it's right, that's just how society is these days. Personally I'd rather see some kind of local Common Law system, but that's just not the reality.
User avatar #36 to #30 - stifflimb (10/07/2015) [-]
I'm with you to some degree, but if she also been denying people who needed financial aid for being white or any color she deserves some kind of law punishment in addition to being canned, she did not just upset some people with a tweet but she activly can have ruined peoples education with her actions.
#59 to #36 - bigmanblue (10/07/2015) [-]

To a certain point, depending on your position you should watch what you say, as in this for someone whos supposed to somehow be in charged with diversity to start spouting out racist **** is a no go, maybe not punishable by law but definately canned, as she was.
