Gender is the sexual identity of an individual, not his/her actual sex.

You are talking about sex, not gender.

Gender is usually determined at a young age. Children will often either adopt a role as a male, female or on exceptionally rare occasions another gender. While the science behind psychosexual development is highly contested it's observed that young children will eventually identify themselves as male or female after infancy.

For example, it's possible that a male child may refer to himself as female, even though he does not possess female organs [This often leads to a condition known as gender dysphoria, a rare condition affecting around 0.01% of the world population].

It's widely accepted that sex and gender are not the same thing.
