My grandmother does the same thing with electronics, it's literally pushing the HDMI button on the tv to switch it to the output for Sky, which she hasn't learnt after 3 years of me telling her.

"Anon what have you done you've broken the television"
"What..?"
"You've played with it again playing those silly games and broken the television"
"Uh..no?"
"Yes you have, you played that silly game and i can't get my channels back on"
"You mean..the playstation? You think i broke the television, using the playstation?"
"Yes! You broke the television"

It just goes on and on and on until i switch it to HDMI2 for her and she pipes down and goes back to watching operas.

******* old people man

While I feel your pain, I'm going to say **** that.

It isn't old people, old people can learn.
People that willfully choose ignorance on the other hand.
Hate those ******* .
They COULD choose to learn how to deal with the **** , but do they?
Nope! why the **** do that?!
Why do the smart ******* thing?!

They bring their rage onto themselves and if that alone was more lethal than smoking than I wouldn't care.

That last part sounds far more edgy than I want it to, but I already put effort into this.
User avatar #190 to #160 - neokun (09/25/2015) [-]
I agree. I hate not knowing how to do something if it could make things a whole ton easier. I hate having to depend on other people for **** I know I could learn to do myself.
#172 to #160 - anon (09/25/2015) [-]
The problem is that the current crop of old people grew up as the most entitled pieces of **** this country has ever experienced. Everything wrong with this country nowadays is their fault. They grew up being taught to be selfish, and resistant to change, and are a collective cancer killing this country because of it.
#234 to #172 - youxbarstard (09/25/2015) [-]
Weak people - tough times.
I see many getting swole in your future.
#218 to #132 - alfrsa (09/25/2015) [-]
My grandma's like that as well, but I suspect it's because she may have dementia. She stayed with us for an entire month and everyday she'd tell me the television wouldn't work (she pressed random buttons when it was on, turning it off). She'd also almost break her futon every morning while trying to disassemble it, and when it eventually broke she told me it was because I was the one folding it every day, which I wasn't. Oh, she also begged us to get her a touch screen cellphone - the following day she was pissed and asked us why we bought her a phone she can't even use. She also started taking her meds at double the normal dosage on some days and not at all on others because she was sure/she wasn't sure she had taken them. And whenever anything went wrong it was never her fault, always someone else's. It's frustrating as **** and sad as hell...

tl;dr - Old people can't use technology because, sometimes, they have dementia

my life ever since I was 10

and now I work at an IT repair and maintenance shop
we get calls from customers all the time where the fix is literally pressing one button

and we actually install all our tools on every computer that comes in, whether they agree to our remote monitoring agreement or not
we don't even hide the folder, it's out in the open
they could literally fix pretty much any problem themselves and never have to come back with those tools
but they come back the next week after downloading 500 new viruses and we get paid to clean it up again

sounds like being yelled at is a good deal, one time she literally wouldent let me do an assignment that i had to hand out in two days (that i needed to pass by force btw) because "i wasint spending time with her" so she tried to force me to go to a bbq on the ******* roof of the apartment complex while i have a half done assignment on making a website (it dosent sound hard but our teacher was ******* retarded and kicks people out for sneezing or forgetting a pen drive even though we have could so we barely learned **** so this assignment was particularly harder to finish) so i just decided to say **** it, ate a hot dog so fast that i turned gay in the process, hauled ass to my room so fast that a cartoon poof trail was behind me, locked the door to my room and typed so fast that if someone saw me they would have thought that someone laced my extra strength coffee with pure Colombian cocain , nuff said she was mad but i didint give a **** i let other family members deal with it for that day, thank god they understand.

The only problem I have with 10 is that sometimes when it boots up it lets me know a .dll file is missing somewhere. I should check that out, but am yet to. Besides that, my computer is running noticeably but not significantly faster, and I'm not having any troubles navigating it.

The only thing about it that actually bothers me is the "recent places" thing. I don't want anyone using my computer to find out where my porn is because it's displayed every time you open the start menu or file explorer.

IT here, upgraded personal PC to windows 10, and the only negative things I've experienced so far is the crab-people navigation (easily resolved by using the search option) through the settings options and the driver recognition for some peripherals after a reboot. Other than that, it's pretty swell and the updates are gradually bringing it up to speed. It's a new OS, there's bound to be some issues, but overall it's ******* 10x better than windows h8 and h8.1, and faster than windows 7 in bootloader and navigation by a decent amount, even with an SSD installed.

You got a year to upgrade for free, so you can wait out the update series or do it now and update along with it. If you don't like it, type 'Go back' within 30 days of upgrading and it'll revert for you, no hassle.

Sounds like you haven't updated your drivers in a while man. Windows 10 won't give you any major increase in performance aside from maybe a 1-5 fps boost at most.

I update my drivers regularly, so you are 100% incorrect. I saw notable performance increases in VRAM heavy games.

Umm....No. Here is a side by side comparison of games on the same platform and same settings on different OSs
www.youtube.com/watch?v=DXd2GQgupE8

If you mean by updating your driver, using the driver update feature under device properties, then that would explain it. That feature only checks the windows database to see if there is an updated version at microsoft. So if your device maker hasn't sent the new drivers to microsoft, you won't get them.

In example, when I installed Windows 10 through a fresh install on a formatted drive, it automatically downloaded drivers for my R9 270 and updated them, I still went on AMD's website and found an newer driver despite the fact that windows had JUST installed the newest drivers - that microsoft had.
User avatar #206 to #131 - theimmortalbeaver (09/25/2015) [-]
Um...No. I'm more than a little annoyed that people keep assuming I'm some sort of moron. When I said I installed my drivers, I meant that. I install my own drivers. I have the most recent drivers, and they run great.

As far as OS performance, I dunno why but it runs way better for me. Maybe something was screwed up with my Windows 7 install. Maybe my particular system just simply agrees with Windows 10. All I know is that several games run noticeably smoother on Windows 10.

Windows 10 is a great operations system and is really ******* fast and stable from my experience with it.

People whine about all the "spying and data collection", but really Windows has done that for years. The only difference now is that MS is actually telling us they're doing it.

The only major downside is the fact that updates will force themselves on you. You can keep telling them no, but if you do it enough times it won't give you the option and it will force restart. So using Win 10 on a work computer where you render videos and other things isn't the greatest idea. But for a general use PC like for gaming and **** it's pretty nice.
User avatar #70 to #60 - beardgasm (09/25/2015) [-]

You can schedule when to restart after updating (5AM is the default I think), and it will give you notifications within the hour that you've told it to, and you can defer the time from there. Windows 10 is great, just alot of junk software with it. the **** is groove
User avatar #86 to #71 - rakogoki (09/25/2015) [-]
i think it has less to do with "i just wanna steal stuff" and more to do with "why should they have to right to look at all my stuff". sure if you do nothing wrong you wouldnt have anything to hide, but its assuming youre guilty before even proving it.
#112 to #86 - daniboyi (09/25/2015) [-]
>implying microsoft haven't done this for years and are just confident enough to actually say it and survive the backlash now.
User avatar #116 to #112 - rakogoki (09/25/2015) [-]
did you reply to the wrong guy?
User avatar #119 to #116 - daniboyi (09/25/2015) [-]
nah, more like a nudge towards the question of why are people freaking out about it now, when they have done it for years and barely anyone ever spoke about it.
User avatar #143 to #119 - leonhardt (09/25/2015) [-]
"They've done it for years, that makes it ok!"

You should read a short story called The Lottery.
User avatar #145 to #143 - daniboyi (09/25/2015) [-]
not saying it is ok.
I am saying it doesn't make sense that people cry about it now, when they accepted it for so many years without a single complaint.
User avatar #147 to #145 - leonhardt (09/25/2015) [-]
Serial killers are now allowed to walk completely free if they come forward and tell us they've been murdering for years.

"Hurr he's been doing it for years why convict him now?"
User avatar #149 to #147 - daniboyi (09/25/2015) [-]
You don't get what I am saying do you?
I am saying that if you are going to bitch about it, don't come out after it has happened for several years and act like it is some ground-breaking new discovery!
I mean people complaining about microsoft spying on people after windows 10 came out and acting like it is new, would be the same as me going into a concentration camp in Germany and saying "You know.... did any of you ever realize that Hitler was actually a bad guy?"

Kind of old news and not really that surprising.
It is not ok, but it is nothing new either.
User avatar #150 to #149 - leonhardt (09/25/2015) [-]
Literally nobody is saying it's a "groundbreaking discovery"
Dunno where you got that from.

It not being anything new doesn't make it suddenly ok.
"Welp we've been getting raped by demons for centuries, why not let the new demon equipped with the bigger, now barbed and serrated penis that also shoots lava into your lower intestine tackle your asshole?"
User avatar #152 to #150 - daniboyi (09/25/2015) [-]
I am done with you. You are literally ignoring everything I have written in my comments and just mindlessly kept talking without even stopping and thinking about what you are saying.
I AM NOT SAYING IT IS OK.
Hope you may be able to read that.
User avatar #165 to #152 - ninjaroo (09/25/2015) [-]
Your point makes no sense, dude. It makes as much sense to get outraged about it now as it does to have done it years ago, especially given the people who are getting angry now were probably either children or technologically illiterate when it started happening.
User avatar #168 to #165 - daniboyi (09/25/2015) [-]
oh yeah, because that is why people say 'windows 7 or xp was so much better because they didn't do this'.
It wasn't exactly a big secret then and it certainly isn't now, that the companies spied on us.

Yes, and it remains a thing to be angry about irrespective of how long it's been happening, so saying it makes no sense to be angry now itself makes no sense.
User avatar #175 to #170 - daniboyi (09/25/2015) [-]
I will point back to an earlier comment.
"I mean people complaining about microsoft spying on people after windows 10 came out and acting like it is new, would be the same as me going into a concentration camp in Germany and saying "You know.... did any of you ever realize that Hitler was actually a bad guy?". "
User avatar #177 to #175 - ninjaroo (09/25/2015) [-]
There's a crucial difference there, being that Hitler is no longer doing that. If someone went to a concentration camp when they were still running and came back outraged, nobody would blink twice because that makes perfect sense.
User avatar #178 to #177 - daniboyi (09/25/2015) [-]
the problem is that people are acting like it is some new thing.
It is not and if people think that, they need to get their head out of their asses.
It is a problem, yes. It needs to be fixed? Can be debated.
but new? Not a chance in hell.
User avatar #180 to #178 - ninjaroo (09/25/2015) [-]
It's new to lots of people, because they only recently became aware of it. Besides which, I haven't seen anyone saying it's a new thing.
User avatar #198 to #180 - yuichka (09/25/2015) [-]
**** you guys talking about, most people who have complaint about this stuff says that Windows 7, xp etc is ******* better because they didn't spy and stuff..

This is the point the guy is trying to get to you

That they think previous windows versions didnt do this.

So they're all around better etc.

It's like funnyjunk can't even read :^)
User avatar #200 to #165 - ninjaroo (09/25/2015) [-]
Yuichka

I've heard "Windows 7/vista/whatever is better because Windows 10 has problem X, Y and Z" and "OMG guys windows is spying on us", but not "Windows 7 was better because it wasn't spying on us"
User avatar #236 to #200 - yuichka (09/25/2015) [-]
They don't say it straight.

When they hear about that windows spying stuff etc, they say "I'll just stick with my Windows 7" with a tone on that it doesn't spy on them.

As if it's any difference...
User avatar #153 to #152 - leonhardt (09/25/2015) [-]
Then why are you getting so defensive when people say that it isn't okay?
This entire back and forth is because I said it wasn't ok, and you, for some reason, took offense.

yeah i get the problem, and its wrong that they're doing it, but thats the future for ya. Sooner or later, anonymity on the internet will go away, for better or worse, because every company out there will have tracked your data from the moment you logged in. Facebook already does it, twitch, youtube, all the major websites do it. **** , facebook does it even when you're not ON their website.

The main thing people fail to mention with the anti-piracy stuff on windows 10, because it reduces the fear and "OMG NOOOOO" Factor is this: Its anti-piracy for products on their store. thats it. its their way of going "Hey, want to make sure windows users arent stealing your **** ? come with us, dont go with valve."

Personally i disabled all their spyware the moment i got the 10 update, locked out auto updates from network access and the only time my network is used now is when im using a browser. Even my steam is monitored.
#97 to #60 - youxbarstard (09/25/2015) [-]
I had so many compatibility issues with a lot of my games on steam and gog-galaxy as well as Norton oddly enough.
And that's just the start.
Firefox would keep crashing, things would take forever to load on YT even the comments.
There were even a few instances in which my computer wouldn't even recognize my router and would keep calling it an "unidentified USB device"

ALL of those problems stopped when I rolled back to 8.1.
User avatar #244 to #97 - AlexPaincakes (09/28/2015) [-]
Well your issue is you're using firefox and windows 8.1

use Chrome
#246 to #244 - youxbarstard (09/28/2015) [-]
With chrome it would have a (chrome is not responding) problem with almost every other time I tried to use it.
As for 8.1, the only problem I have with it is that I was forced to update to it when I didn't need it.

So my gf knows nothing about tech, and neither do her friends, so they've used me as tech support for years. I don't mind doing that kind of thing, usually, but the **** I've been put through over the years... They don't know anything outside of how to open fb. Naturally, solutions are painfully simple, but given we live across the country now, thr longest part is the troubleshooting skype calls, trying to get out of them what exactly is going on with their computers. Last night was by far the worst.
One of her idiot friends tried to download an illegal movies app, obv scam, but she did it anyway, and her antivirus prompted to scan.Eventually, they call me, demanding to know how to get the virus preventing them from deleting things off their computer.
Apparently, the antivirus told them that it found threats (cue their freakout) and that it did not have permission to delete them. (Cue second freakout). After about three hours of painful troubleshooting, I figured out two things:
First, she had actually set her own virus protection to scan, never delete. The thing had even asked her if she wanted to delete the threats when scanning, and she "still wanted the movie app", so she kept it.
Second, i really, really hate this bitch.
Walked her through deleting system 32.
Hung up skype call.

Now, i woke up this morning to 8 missed calls, and a whole lot of texts I'm not opening. No regrets. Single4lyfe.

handed my roommate's ipad back after using it for a few days

Not long later he calls me in angrily demanding to know what i've done with his adblocker. He complains that i've uninstalled it and now he's getting spammed with ads

He never had a real adblocker. he had a ****** shareware app from the store that claimed to block ads (if it ever did, it was very poor at it) and by the time he loaned me the ipad, the free trial on the adblocker had expired.
It was not working then, and it continued not-working as it always had when i deleted it. there was no change at all in quantity of ads

I offered to actually setup a proper adblocking solution but he couldn't be bothered

I use it search my computer. Why the hell would anyone use it to search the internet?
User avatar #88 to #45 - rakogoki (09/25/2015) [-]
i remember using the "search libraries" feature in windows 7 and xp over multiple systems, every now and then it would cause a bluescreen in the middle of searching, no clue why.
now i just memorize where everything is and navigate to it. it was probably just a coincidence and im too paranoid.
