Philosophy may be looking without a flashlight, but it is the task itself that teaches its own lesson.

You can feel the bias oozing from the screen.

Science is more like there is a possibility that a cat is in the room so you theorize different ways that you will be able to detect this cat and you create experiments that will detect the presence of a cat with your resources. Other people will then try to recreate this experiment to try and disaprove your theory. You will keep on arguing until someone with better resources comes in and will be a game changer it will either back your theory, disapprove your theory and create a new theory. This will be a cycle and the theory that last through the ages will be considered a law.

It's a shame that people think theres such a huge divide between scientists and theologists/religion. I always wanted to do something in theology, I didn't grow up in a particularly religious family but I always enjoyed learning about different religions cuz its amazing to think that people can dedicate their lives and believe in something so passionately that they don't necessarily have any hard proof of.
Thought I'd end up going to school to study theology, but instead I'm finishing up my bachelors in geology and I know tons of chemists, physicists, biologists etc who are religious as well, and do believe in some kind of god or higher power.

The internet tries to make it seem like you can only have one, when that's not how it is.

*Theology is like being in a dark room and believing that there is a black cat because you can hear meowing

*Being a religious nut is like being in a dark room and looking for a black cat and shouting about how you found it despite the fact you found nothing, and saying that anybody who doesn't believe you should be killed

*Science is like being in a dark room and looking for a black cat using a flashlight

*Being Enlightened is like saying all theologians are stupid because they don't use a flashlight and all Science is irrefutable because the do use a flashlight, all while completely forgetting the fact that Science's flashlight is currently very small, very thin, and cannot move from a single portion of the room. Yet these Enlightened folks continue to jump around and **** themselves out of excitement because it 'proves' that everybody else is wrong, and they make stupid little pictures on the internet to support a stupid opinion

Protip: There's nothing wrong with Atheism, nothing wrong with Science, nothing wrong with disliking religion, nothing wrong with making stupid little pictures on the internet. But when people can judge the type of person you are by exactly how much bias is IN the picture, you're doing something wrong.

Philosophy is trying to find a way to look at a black cat in a dark room

Metaphysics is trying to see what the cat looks like

Theology is trying to find the nature of the black cat after ascertaining its presence through philosophy and experience.

Science is explaining things about the cat that can be observed using the flashlight.

Philosophy is like wondering why the room is dark and if the cat is actually black or if it's just the darkness making it appear that way.

Metaphysics is like being in a dark room and figuring out why the cat is there

Theology is like looking for a divine black cat.

Science is like creating multiple scenarios in which a cat is or is not in the dark room and then calculating the likelihood of that cat being black.

Honestly, I'd say it's more like this:

Philosophy is like being in a dark room and asking yourself if it's morally acceptable to go looking for the cat, then writing 27 books on the ethics of cat-searching.

Metaphysics is like being in a dark room and wondering whether or not the cat is real or a complex illusion, then having an existential crisis about the nature of objective reality.

Theology is like believing there's a cat in the room, but subtly amending your beliefs about the size, stealthiness and visibility of the cat as the room steadily gets lighter and lighter.

Science is like lighting up the room chunk by chunk to whittle down all the places the cat isn't, in order to get a steadily clearer picture of where it might be. Then your budget runs out.

Science is having 100 rooms; 50 black rooms, and the rest with different colors. then you test 4 different kinds of flashlights in each room, and one guy has to go in there with a flashlight without a bulb. then you take the results of your experiment and show the community that you still couldn't find the cat, so you ask for $50,000 grant money to design a stuffed animal that will act in its place.

no but for real, science can't tell you how to live your life. religion/ethics/philosophy will always have their place for people.

How I read this post

Philosophy: Awh, Science's Mentally disable twin.
Metaphysics: This word is really big, so i am just going to guess and hope.
Theology: Religion is dumb, something else about flying spaghetti, GO ATHEISM!
Science: All Hail Science!
