That's a horrible ******* way to hold a fish though. You can fairly easily grasp one of that size by holding it about the dorsal fin, after having first compressed said fin backwards so it's no longer spiky.

Things get tricky when they get bigger. Also teeth, bigger fish tend to have very sharp teeth. Never do this with a pike or pickerel or anything of the sort unless you want to lose your thumb when it decides to get rid of you.
