What I liked the most of that film was the plot, both of them.

Theres a pretty interesting bit on the special features of the DVD yeah i'm sad and watch them Where Keanu is talking about the Burly Brawl and still remembers all his fight moves in sequence.

Also, didn't he give pretty much all of his money from the films to the special effects guys?

pretty impressive how the budget is only less than $150 mil for a movie that built it own goddamn highway.

it also earned $742,128,461 in case you're curious.

disagree

the liquid mirror was cool , the electrical sparks on the floating ships , the shooting of the exoskeletons , the world made of codes ... those are not **** effects

The paved part of the highway is still there actually, and Mythbusters uses it often.

Can anyone explain to me how special effects costs so much? It's just the guys salary's that do the special effects that costs? or ? Never understood.
User avatar #50 to #48 - leuser (06/11/2014) [-]
I don't really know, I'm just guessing:

-Salary
-Standard office equipment (pencil, paper, other random things...)
-Research before even attempting to make the 3D scenes (story boards and such)
-The computers themselves (If i remember right, there were hundreds of computers rendering the scenes with special effects, especially the burly brawl scene)
-Software and hardware. Licenses for whatever 3D modeling and animation software they used, plus photoshop and maybe some other similar programs to make the textures, capture facial expressions, maybe even write original code for an effect they needed. On the hardware side, they needed lots of HDD, RAM and Video Graphics. By nowadays standards, what they used probably sucked, but still it was expensive at the time.
-Computers work with electricity, so the bill for all those hundreds of computers that were rendering the scenes was already high.

And that's just what's at the top of my head. I've never participated in a movie so I don't know how much more detail I can add to it, but it's not as simple as "sit at your computer and do the best you can!". It's a movie after all. Millions will see it, for decades, so they really had to do their best.
