'Stealth roots'

You never really needed stealth minus the game failing you if you were caught. If allowed to go unhindered you could massacre every guard in the vicinity easily without sustaining even as much as a hit.

Still, would like the games to focus on different aspects each. If they make a ninja/samurai one, I expect that would have the most stealth mechanics.

I only have AC brotherhood and 3, but I enjoyed them both a lot. I watched the gameplay of the rest though. AC2 looked especially fun.

Brotherhood showed Ezio in his prime and bringing the guild back to life while still being relatively stealthy. Ezio's character was great and you got to watch him grow in skill and age. He was a badass too when not being sneaky and it was an equal balance when needing to be hidden or not.

AC3 wasn't as stealthy, but introduced a more flexible player and environment. It did give you more stealthy options, but also gave you more badass styles of killing so you'd probably want to just kill everyone because you can, and being stealthy can become boring. Connor wasn't the most interesting character, but he was pretty wise and used some poetic words when necessary.

Black flag didn't interest me at all and looked just like AC3, but with a more pirate themed environment. I'm probably not in a position to post my opinion since I've only played 2 of the games, but yea.

Assassin's creed 3 was crap, not as bad as Revelations but it was still crap. Black Flag was a surprisingly good game, the "modern-ish day" stuff was much better than the last few games, Desmond and his story got progressively worse in each new game.
#40 to #10 - dtanobo (11/26/2013) [-]
You would be surprised to know that AC4 Black Flag is a lot better than AC3. It's story isn't really as deep since it's more open to newcomers but it's gameplay is stellar. I'd give it a go if you had a bad taste after playing AC3. Not saying it was bad but AC4 is better.

I've played all Assassin Creeds and this is my personal rating from best to least best (they are all good)
> Assassin Creed Brotherhood
> Assassin Creed 2
> Assassin Creed Revelation
> Assassin Creed 3
> Assassin Creed 1
I actually really enjoyed Assassin Creed 3 and want to maybe bump it up my list but I have fond memories of Assassin Creed 2 story wise and the awe I had but vaguely remember pretty bad combat system. Essentially you character would only counter during fights which sucks but was definitely more stealthy.
On a side note I heard Black Flag was way better than Assassin Creed 3.

The first assassins creed was the only game where you were an actual assassin though, not to mention that it was trying to exposition different world views side by side.

Everything after that was really just open world arcade games.

Nah, I think they're gonna go for the french revolution. Have like paris, prague etc in it. The abstergo interludes really gave it away in AC4.

Or wild west assassin's creed, since there even was a character design in AC4, which was like a cowboy dude with belt, that had the assassins logo on it. Still my money's mostly on french revolution.

Who was Elizabeth Weston? I had never heard of her before AC4. I've only gotten the really long diary of her where she get the paint of the "goddess" , and the short file saying report anything major ,or whatever it said to do with her.

They never said anything about the Russian (nikolai) but in AC 4 there are hints that the next game could be in Feudal Japan, American West, New England, Africa, or France. I really want to see an African version of this game, inb4 Adewale's Freedom Cry
User avatar #53 to #23 - tkfourtwoone ONLINE (11/26/2013) [-]
Hahaha, an AC game during the French Revolution, with the main plot involving the overthrowing the aristocracy, thus "freeing" the common Frenchman?

Yes, I could see several possible plot twists in that...
#62 to #53 - cocoman (11/26/2013) [-]
I don't think they would go with another rebellion type of story, not saying they shouldn't, but I think they would think of something else. Really hoping for Feudal Japan.
found this literally 30 seconds ago
User avatar #63 to #62 - tkfourtwoone ONLINE (11/26/2013) [-]
You do realize that Feudal Japan holds absolutely no grounds/story base behind it, right (see another of my comments, I briefly explain there why)?

China, however, holds more interesting opportunities, with the Silk Road & all (spreading of the Templars between continents, perhaps?)
User avatar #101 to #63 - edgecutter (11/26/2013) [-]
Oh who gives a two **** flying **** as to what setting can have the most plot twists in it thanks to history? The Gempei war, the Sengoku Jidai and the Meiji restoration are all extremely interesting settings to visit as an Assassin's Creed game. I'm sure there are lots of interesting game mechanics to implement in there as well, for example, a different naval combat system, where you fight with archers instead of cannons, etc.

How about Japanese Wako pirates? Really now, Japan or even the entirety of asia provide an excellent setting for many interesting game mechanics and provide enough to make an excellent stories for the asians and asia-lovers out there.

On the huge map of Assassin's guilds in your safehouse in AC II it shows there being assassins present in Northern europe. Looks like Scandinavia-ish. Might be fun with some stuff going on there. Depends on when, though, as in AC II's time that part of the world wasn't very densely populated.

In myyy opinion...if ubisoft really...really really wants the AC franchise to be defined as stealth (which i think we all wish it would be) then they should really take a look at different ubisoft games that focus on stealth. Splinter cell for example...add a cover system that is actually useful...farcry 3 had a BRILLIANT mix of stealth, blow **** up, open world, etc...the stealth indicator as well as a cover system would work wonders in the next assassins
User avatar #86 to #77 - nuclearderp (11/26/2013) [-]
Yeah, Farcry 3's stealth was pretty awesome. A decent difficulty so it was easy to do in some cases, yet really hard in others. Actually felt satisfying to take a stronghold out without being detected in the later levels, but it wasn't impossible.

User avatar #42 to #39 - gragasvlad (11/26/2013) [-]
I'm ******* up over and over today... okay kill germans, though a ww2 setting would also work pretty well.
User avatar #44 to #42 - tkfourtwoone ONLINE (11/26/2013) [-]
WW1 would be cool, because that was the last war that still had some chivalry & romantism (not romance) in it. You know, turn of the century, most believing that the war would be over in a couple of weeks and that it will just be a display of forces at the border...

But WW2?!

It's been done a gazillion times before, in both games and movies! The market is literally SATURATED with WW2 multimedia!

And in case you haven't noticed, one of the main AC things is visiting time periods not that common exploited, i.e. the Crusades, Renaissance, Independence War (that held a ******** of room for conspiracy theories regarding Templars and Freemasons, etc)...

Pirate games come & go, they're nowhere near such a common presence, so I guess that AC4 is OK-ish from that point of view.

P.S.: And please, no Feudal Japan either. Once again, it's been done dozens of times and only kiddies who daydream about ninjas & shurikens & katanas want it.
Second, it would literally have no tie to the main story whatsoever, very hard to shove Templar influence in a country that has been isolated for the great part of 2000 years!

Now, an AC game during the Meiji Restoration, with the influence of Europeans, US and the re-inventing of the Japanese state (securing a transition from feudalism to modern times, with all the moral & phylosophical questions raised along)... now THAT might be interesting.

User avatar #51 to #50 - tkfourtwoone ONLINE (11/26/2013) [-]
Would be... interesting, as a setting, but I don't see where a conspiracy plot a la AC series would fit in...

Now, Victorian England... THAT would be something (maybe throw in a tier or two to Jack the Ripper), especially considering the architecture at their disposal (and the general atmosphere of the times, boggy & foggy)... that would be SWEET
User avatar #57 to #51 - skeptical (11/26/2013) [-]

I want some games in these eras, medievil england - war of the roses period 1455, feudal japan 16th century, a black african country like nigeria, it would be fun to play as a nigerian assassin, or a game where they go gta and have 3 playable characters who are a templar, an assassin and a theif or royal guard or something and your missions just make it harder to play as the other characters.

My friend keeps bitching about Assassin's Creed being a ****** stealth game when going around killing everyone is generally easier to do, and occasionally makes you do just that. It doesn't matter how many times I ******* tell him that Assassin's Creed isn't a stealth game but an action-adventure game with stealth aspects which can be used if you want, he still just goes on about it.
User avatar #31 to #8 - hudis (11/26/2013) [-]
I think it's about that the original idea of Assassin's Creed was stealth. That's how I see it, anyway. The first game was way more about blending in with the crowd, hunting down, stalking and killing your targets quietly and efficiently. AC2 as well. Since then it has gradually developed into a game where stealth is pretty much impossible. I've had to restart missions countless times on Black Flag simply because I keep being detected almost instantly in every mission, no matter which route I take, and I consider myself fairly good and experienced in stealth games, so I definitely think something has gone wrong.

I've been playing AC4 and it's actually REALLY good. So much better than AC3 was and should have been the proper sequel to ACR. I actually think the next game is going to be set in Egypt. I have information to go with this. During AC4 (Minor spoiler ahead) in modern day you hack into a computer and read a conversation about the next titles into the Assassin's Creed franchise in abstergo and they have a bunch of pictures showing what the next AC games could be. One of those is of a dark skinned man not really wearing a hood with a white tattoo if I remember correctly. Earlier this year though, ingame images leaked of the same man shown in the drawing in a very alpha stage which people thought was the next Prince of Persia game. I could probably be wrong but it seemed that they went through a decent amount of effort in the screenshots we saw. Then again, I haven't finished AC4 yet so I wouldn't know where the franchise is going yet.

TL;DR Next game might be set in Egypt.
