Great comp! I want werewolves next.

Another type of dragon that is often overlooked is the Norse dragon, maybe it has inspired modern day's wyrms instead of dragons. They were indeed wyrms, incapable of flight and spitting venom instead of fire, but were also referred to as dragons dreki and served the same purpose in stories. Vikings didn't call their ships "dragon ships" for nothing.

While the wingless poisionous dragon did not make the cut for the mainstream dragon, the personality did prevail; Norse dragons were cunning, selfish and greedy the very symbol of greed I think , unlike the minions of chaos depicted in for instance Greek or Egyptian mythology, who wreaked havoc mostly by nature and not for personal gains. Norse dragons were capable of speech and furthered their own goal, usually guarding their treasures, just like Smaug. Tolkien was very interested in Norse mythology and many things in middle-earth Miðgarðr, Midgård , like dwarves, are inspired or directly borrowed from there. Since most fantasy is based upon or inspired by The Hobbit and LotR, Smaug's personality became one of the archetypes for dragons, and thus Norse dragons inspired modern dragons.

Note the difference between medieval dragons, who kidnapped princesses and were generally malevolent without reason, and Smaug, who takes treasures and acts upon greed, vanity and selfishness.

Notable dragons from Norse mythology are Níðhöggr, Nidhögg, who gnaws at Yggdrasil, the world tree, to escape from the roots trapping him, and Fafnir, who became a dragon as a result of his greed. The story of Fafnir's eventual slayer, Sigurd, is the foundation of Nibelungenringen.

Some dragon facts from a friendly anon:
Technically Dragons are the ones with 4 legs and wings, Dragons with 2 legs and wings are Wyverns. Which means that skyrim is 100% dragon free.

Asian Dragons in legends don't breathe fire they chase the sun away and bring rain, thus they are seen as benevolent fertility deity's.

The earliest dragon I know about is the ancient Egyptian Apophis dragon of darkness who battled against Ra the top god every day.

The patron saint of England St George was famous for killing a dragon, but recent historical finds suggest he was a butcher selling crusaders "dragon meat" in a time of famine.

A credible theory for why so many cultures have dragon legends is that they found Pterosaur fossils.

Okay, so, some of you guys probably know the "walking with -" franchise by BBC (e.a. walking with dinosaurs,"walking with beasts, etc)

Wouldn't it be cool if there was, like, a dragon version of that? Like, a documentary that with "real-life" footage protrayed the life and evolution of dragons....Well, IT EXISTS!
The Last Dragon | A Fantasy Made Real This compilation reminded me again of some documentary-film I once watched when I was really young. (and dragons/dinosaurs were half my life) I couldn't find what it was, until now: I present you "The Last Dragon: A Fantasy Made Real"

Seriously, anyone who likes/loves dragons HAS to check this out. The video may not be 1080 Full HD, and it's not THE most convinving CGI ever made, but if you're really into dragons it really is worth your time.

Oh, good not-so-old memories... But I didn't actually know, that this book would be so "famous". Anyway, gotta love it, totally worth the price. I like spending nights searching for new pictures of dragons too - I'm not really satisfied with tho movies though. I mean the dragons are usually cool enough, for example I like Tolkien's portrayal of Smaug, fits in The Hobbit's story/world. But where did the 'myth' part go? I'd like to see a movie with intelligent, almost human-like, but with dragons far superior to humans. I get that every movie has its own style and that's fine, but at least sometimes they should just let their imagination fly free. Anyway... Sorry for the tons of words, have a nice day!

DS1 after a certain amount of progression in the game you go back to the cell you started out in and there will be a strange doll. You take this doll to anor londo and then you go to the room with the giant panting in it. You'll remember it because it's the giant room with the rafters were you had to cross to get to the levers with out falling. You go up to the painting after you kill the guards and click on it. A shot vid will show then you get sucked into the painted world of aremis. She is the boss of the area her name is Priscilla. She is not offensive until you attack her and you can leave the world by jumping off the ledge behind her. Her abilitys consist of turning invisible and that giant scythe that inflicts heavy bleed damage. If you cut of her tail you get her dagger which is amazing and her weapon is called the lifehunt scythe. Also she is my favorite boss. Soooo cute <3.

dude, grease is among the best lvl 1 spells in the game! But if you cover the ground with grease without airborne party members you're doing it wrong ;)

"The spell can also be used to create a greasy coating on an item. Material objects not in use are always affected by this spell, while an object wielded or employed by a creature receives a Reflex saving throw to avoid the effect. If the initial saving throw fails, the creature immediately drops the item. A saving throw must be made in each round that the creature attempts to pick up or use the greased item"

Well hello there Mr. Frost Giant. I'm gonna laugh at your +3 reflex save and drop your damage per hit to about dire wolf levels with a single level 1 spell. Also, feel free to try to pick up that greataxe of yours for the next 1min/level and provoke attacks of opportunity from each of our melee characters!

as to your question: both 3.5 and pathfinder have pretty much the same wording on the spell (actually got more broken in pathfinder with the increased duration). 3.0 probably too. Not sure about other editions, I never made the jump to 4th and 2nd edition was slightly before my time.

Dragons exist in every culture around the world because dinosaur fossils exist everywhere around the world. Imagine tribals finding the skull of a 50 foot monster.
