And unfortunetly. People are still on the defensive.

"we won the battle not the war" kind of mentality.

I get where they're coming from, but dudes, chill a bit.

I'll save my indignation for when I see they doing something shady, not for obliging our requests.

i can see your point. Agreed, they didn't do anything so shameful as maybe a hidden "user fee" or some bs. It's a cause for celebration still, since it's nice to have a free modding community, but we didn't "win a war" with gaben.

In a sense it's kinda of a shame. I mean. I AM against the paid mods. But one of the points of it was trying to bring the modders, players, and developers closer (which I didn't think it was going to do) but it backfired so hard that the community is now a bit taken back at steam.

People are so used to being ****** over that what could be perceived as a simple marketing mistake is taken as an personal offense. A shame, really.

all they needed to do was change it to a donation button instead and get bethesda to release a mod from it's dev team. if you bring a case of beer and a new friend to a group hangout and offer to buy pizza if a couple people chip in, you'll get a nice party pretty quick.

I'm just not fine with developers making money out of mods, you know? They then get an excuse to get lazy, release half complete games, let the community patch in to fix and improve mechanics, and cash in on that. Too much possible BS for my taste.

touche, i can understand the lack of enthusiasm over it. Honestly, i'm hoping (foolishy perhaps, but hoping still) that the dev teams release mods not for gain, not for the publisher's sake, but because they still like what they do and want to show some enthusiasm. i wish devs would release a mod and tag it with "we made this in our spare time because we thought it would be fun. we added some personal touches, brought in a side quest that we scrapped because the guy who made it got moved to another game and if you go to this village, we made a secret room with our personal weapon sets when we play." I'm looking at it more as "we're devs and industry folk but we're still gamers that love what we do and we want to connect with the fanbase" rather than "gibe us more money for the better ending"

That would have to go through the publishers, and they would take one look and it and demand to charge for it.

i know, and that's why i lament aaa publishers. i realize, it's business, but i wish publishers would take the electric fence down every now and then and let the dogs play with the neighborhood kids every now and then

Valve does a thing
"We don't like this thing"
"Okay, then we'll take it back"
"WE WON A BRUTAL WAR AGAINST ALL ODDS"
