Just hours ago, tragedy struck when celebrated comedian John Oliver was told it was not 2015. He was found hanging from the ceiling of his studio room, the words "It's 2015 people!" smeared across the mirror. A heartfelt eulogy was given by Trevor Noah of the Daily Show, who sorrowfully said "He was a good boy, he didn't do nothing."

I think there was something about him saying 'these refugees aren't dangerous at all, **** you for thinking some might be, its 2015' etc literally days before the Paris attacks.

to continue where the rest left off, it's not only John Oliver but also others responding with "its 2015 guise".

for example, recently elected prime minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, answered to the question "why was that [having a gender-balanced cabinet] so important to you?" with "because its 2015 ¯_(ツ)_/¯ "

John Oliver used "it's 2015" as a statement once or twice to argue against backward thinking.
4chan ran with it because if it can't be summed up in a greentext, it isn't worth talking about. Now it's a (false) meme to accuse him as using the phrase as his calling card.

Apparently John Oliver would always accuse people who disagreed with him of being backwards and would always say stuff like "It's 2015 people, you should know that not all Syrian refugees are terrorists" and stuff like that.
