That's a recent problem we've had with female characters. Because of the absurd political correctness some people demand, pretty much every every female character has to be a Mary Sue or people whine. Because stupid people see every female character as a representation of all women. Character is a coward? "OMG! You're depicting women as victims.". Character's a ******* ? "OMG! That's so offensive." Character is feminine and doesn't act like they've got more testicles than a Chernobyl fireman? "OMG! Mysoginy! You're forcing the patriarchy on women.". So, you end up with butch Mary Sues. Sometimes it works out well, like in Mad Max. Sometimes, it doesn't.
